As if we didn't already have enough reasons to be excited for Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity," Guillermo del Toro is here to vouch that it's going to blow our minds.

It's a movie that's taken a very long time to get into production, and even had James Cameron skeptical of its scope. But I didn't put it on my list of movies that desperately needed to be put through production in 2011 for nothing, and with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in the lead roles it seems like it could be certifiably great. Del Toro seems to think that it's going to change sci-fi films as we know them.

"I'm amazed at Alfonso the past few movies because he's completely transformed himself," he said when MTV News spoke with him recently. "['Gravity' is] incredibly well-calculated. Very human, if you know the story."

Marion CotillardIf there was still a small part of you that thought that Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's casting in "The Dark Knight Rises" as some cruel joke, let those fears officially be put to rest.

Warner Bros. released a statement today announcing that Christopher Nolan's oft-rumored "Inception" collaborators are indeed a part of "The Dark Knight Rises," though not necessarily in the roles you'd expect. Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, a board member at Wayne Enterprises, and Gordon-Levitt has been tapped for John Blake, a Gotham City cop under Commissioner Gordon. Despite that, though, our friends over at Splash Page think Nolan might still be keeping some tricks up his sleeve. They think there's still a chance Cotillard could be playing Talia Al Ghul, and we're betting that there's more than meets the eye to JGL's cop as well.

After the jump, "Fast Six" gets a writer, "Red State" makes a profit, and finally some good news for "Gravity."

George ClooneyThe revolving door of casting news/changes that has plagued Warner Bros' "Gravity" might officially have come to an end today, with The Hollywood Reporter breaking the news that George Clooney has signed on to take over Robert Downey Jr.'s role in the Alfonso Cuaron-directed sci-fi pic. Coincidentally enough, our savvy team here at Movies Blog suggested this very switch back in October when rumors surfaced that RDJ was dropping out.

Clooney takes over as a leader of a space station (said to be a supporting role) who is one of two survivors after the station is destroyed by space debris. Sandra Bullock (in the lead role) is playing a mother who is determined to return to Earth so she can be reunited with her daughter. Read More...

Robert Downey Jr.Looks like Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" is officially out of orbit. Though Sandra Bullock is still in line to play the film's heroine, Heat Vision has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. has left the project. Not one to remain idle, Downey is reportedly sizing up a starring role in the adaptation of the book "How to Talk to Girls."

RDJ is definitely one of the hottest men in Hollywood right now, and last month we took you through all the upcoming projects he is attached to before "Iron Man 3" is released in 2013. After the jump we have a revised list to help movie fans keep everything straight. Read More...

Robert Downey Jr.It's been a rough year for "Gravity." Everything started out so promising with the casting of Angelina Jolie and Robert Downey Jr.. The movie was expected to film over the summer, but then things turned south when Jolie dropped the project in August and the film clamored for a female lead. Finally, earlier this month, Sandra Bullock became attached to the female lead, but now Deadline is reporting that RDJ may have to leave "Gravity" as well due to scheduling conflicts.

Right now we're still at "rumor" stage, and Deadline emphasized that Warner Bros. executives are denying Downey's departure. Still, considering he planned on filming "Gravity" over the summer, is now getting his sleuth on filming "Sherlock Holmes 2" and is attached to a number of other project's including Sam Raimi's "Oz the Great and Powerful," his busy movie schedule sounds like it could cause some major conflicts. It would be a big setback for the project, but fortunately it would be a lot easier to replace Downey as the male supporting role than it was to fill the lead female role. The film follows two astronauts who are the only survivors after their space station is destroyed by space debris. Bullock is playing the female lead who is hell-bent on returning to Earth so she can be reunited with her daughter, while Downey was set to play her co-pilot. Should Downey be forced to leave the project, we have a couple actors in mind that would make very suitable co-pilots for Bullock. Read More...

Robert Downey Jr.With "Iron Man 3" officially on the calendar, superhero fans everywhere can take solace in the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the scene as Tony Stark at least two more times in the relatively near future (the other time being for 2012's "Avengers").

Downey is all but locked for the film — at the very least, we can't imagine anyone else wearing the red-and-gold suit — but he has a long road to go down before "Iron Man 3" hits theaters. That's not a complaint, of course, as every RDJ-starring movie standing between now and Ol' Shellhead's return sounds like a winner in the making.

After the jump, we've got the rundown on the projects facing Downey before "Iron Man 3" arrives on the scene! Read More...

Sandra BullockIt seems only natural that director Anne Fletcher would propose to Sandra Bullock that they reunite after the success of last year's "The Proposal." According to The Hollywood Reporter Fletcher did just that... and Bullock has said "I do": The two of them are teaming up for an as-yet-untitled romantic comedy that's being written by "The Wedding Planner" scribes Pamela Falk and Michael Ellis and is said to be in the vein of "An Unmarried Woman" and "Saturday Night Fever."

Though she has yet to tackle a role since her Oscar win for "The Blind Side," Bullock does have several other high profile projects in the works as we speak... and I don't think I'd be the first to suggest it might be better for her to put the rom-com down, slowly back away and try something a little bit different. That could be Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi thriller "Gravity" or the upcoming adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's novel "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" or even "Most Wanted," which would reunite Bullock with her "Proposal" costar Ryan Reynolds. After the jump, we weigh the pros and cons of each and cast our vote for which film Bullock should go with next. Read More...

Natalie PortmanSurprise, surprise: Damon Lindelof's rewrite of Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel has allegedly made the film infinitely more awesome. Culture Vulture got the exclusive that executives at Fox read the new draft of the screenplay (originally penned by Jon Spaihts) and were "very pleased with it indeed."

While all of Vulture's sources were sworn to secrecy on details of the plot, two big reasons Fox was happier than a pig in poop are that Lindelof's version lacks any big-budget set pieces, which is likely to bring down the suggested $150 million budget, and the film could also could potentially pull off a PG-13 rating, making it more accessible to mass audiences. But the reason we're so psyched for this script is the news that Lindelof and Scott are returning the sci-fi action franchise to the horror-suspense roots planted by Scott's original "Alien."
