The "G.I. Joe" film is nothing if not bombastic, so it's no surprise that there were dozens of special effects wizards working on the many CGI-heavy scenes. One of the flick's most explosive moments concerned an attack on a US Army helicopter resulting in its destruction.

In this exclusive clip from the DVD's bonus features, the crew shows exactly what went into creating that memorable sequence, from multiple angles and computer-generated layers. The film hit Blu-ray and DVD today.

1. "The Final Destination" ($28.3 million)
2. "Inglourious Basterds" ($19.5 million)
3. "Halloween II" ($17 million)
4. "District 9" ($10.7 million)
5. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" ($8 million)

Based on the results of the Saturday Box Office Report, it was already clear that the slow-moving, knife-wielding terror of Michael Myers was no match for the elaborate deaths of "The Final Destination." What wasn't clear at the time was that Myers had another enemy to worry about -- and that enemy wants his scalp. Read more...

1. "The Final Destination" ($10.925 million)
2. "Halloween II" ($7.625 million)
3. "Inglourious Basterds" ($5.9 million)
4. "District 9" ($3 million)
5. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" ($2.3 million)

Over the past few weeks, the box office has been filled with shoot-'em-ups and all out war; this weekend introduces the gore with "The Final Destination" and "Halloween II," two movies that continue (and potentially finish, if you believe the premise of the former) their respective horror franchises. While the villain of the "Final Destination" series is less tangible than the hulking Michael Myers in the Rob Zombie-directed sequel, "Destination" is nonetheless the place to be in terms of the box office. The death-filled thriller enjoyed a Friday debut of $10.925 million and is looking at a weekend intake of $26 million. "Halloween II," on the other hand, only opened to $7.625 million on Friday and is expected to make $17 million by the weekend's conclusion. Read more...

Inglourious Basterds1. "Inglourious Basterds" ($38 million)
2. "District 9" ($18.8 million)
3. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" ($12.5 million)
4. "The Time Traveler's Wife" ($10 million)
5. "Julie & Julia" ($9 million)

It took at least a decade for Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" to emerge from the recesses of his mind and into movie theaters, but it seems the wait was well worth it. After a $14.3 million Friday debut and a $13 million Saturday, analysts are projecting a $38 million weekend for the World War II-era revenge flick, significantly higher than the $30 million best case scenario most experts predicted prior to the film's release. 1. "Inglourious Basterds" ($14 million)
2. "District 9" ($5.8 million)
3. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" ($3.6 million)
4. "The Time Traveler's Wife" ($3.3 million)
5. "Julie & Julia" ($2.7 million)

They say a basterd's work is never done, but Friday night's box office numbers makes it clear that a basterd's work is just beginning. Quentin Tarantino's long-awaited "Inglourious Basterds" opened in the top spot with a surprisingly large $14 million Friday evening, the biggest single-day opening for any of the acclaimed director's films. Prior to the weekend start, most projections pegged "Basterds" at a $30 million weekend at best, but that number has since changed to a likely $35 million. Read more...

G.I. Joe: The Rise of CobraI'm fairly certain I never once saw Cobra Commander, Destro or even that upstart Zartan wearing sneakers. Not that that's stopped Nike from pairing up with Hasbro to license a pair of new, limited edition sneaks pegged to the recent release of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra." They come in two flavors, with horribly confusing and lengthy names for each one: "Nike X Hasbro Hyperize Supreme Destro GI Joe Pack" and "Nike X Hasbro Zoom Sharkalaid Storm Shadow GI Joe Pack."

Now don't get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It's my favorite Stephen Sommers flick since "The Mummy," and I suspect it will top even that one once the Blu-ray arrives in my home. I'm not digging these sneaks though. It's hard to be anything but blunt about it: they're ugly. I might buy a pair though, not to wear but for the classic-styled G.I. Joe vehicle box they come packaged in. The only thing missing is a little window off to the side containing your bonus action figure. Hit the jump for a look at the kickass packaging. Read more...

District 91. "District 9" ($37 million)
2. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" ($22.5 million)
3. "The Time Traveler's Wife" ($19.2 million)
4. "Julie & Julia" ($12.4 million)
5. "G-Force" ($6.9 million)

Given its strong opening day of $14.2 million and a Saturday take of $12.6 million, it's hardly surprising to hear that "District 9" finished its first weekend on top of the box office. What is surprising is that "District 9" is on track to make $37 million by Sunday's end, meaning that the alien-centric film has already surpassed its budget costs by $7 million. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, the results surpassed rival studios' expectations of the film, thanks largely to good word of mouth and grassroots marketing from producer Peter Jackson, director Neill Blomkamp and the rest of the "District 9" team. District 91. "District 9" ($13 million)
2. "The Time Traveler's Wife" ($7.5 million)
3. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" ($7.2 million)
4. "Julie & Julia" ($3.6 million)
5. "G-Force" ($2.3 million)

There's nothing alien about the moviegoing crowd's relationship with "District 9," the Peter Jackson-produced, Neill Blomkamp-directed science fiction epic that opened in the top box office slot on Friday evening. The film -- which is what an adaptation of the "Halo" video game could have looked like had studios trusted Jackson and Blomkamp's vision -- opened to at least $13 million, with that number set to go higher after west coast numbers are accounted for. After hearing from my friend this weekend that he walked out of “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” I didn’t have very high expectations when I went to go see it. And I was shocked by what I saw.

“G.I. Joe” is one of the most exciting pieces of cinema I’ve witnessed this year. One hell of a joyride set around a traditional Good vs. Evil conflict. There are plenty of nods to the fan boys, even with the plot constantly moving forward at a breakneck pace. Read more...

A few weeks back, some rumblings made the Internet rounds concerning the possibility of George Clooney stepping in as the next Jack Ryan. The Tom Clancy character has been previously played by Ben Affleck, Harrison Ford and Alec Baldwin, and Clooney seemed like a perfectly viable fourth. With no "Ocean's" movie on the horizon and the actor's remaining 2009 projects serving up quirkier fare, Ryan's smooth government official would put Clooney back in the leading man saddle.

So when I sat down to chat with "G.I. Joe" producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura two weekends ago, I couldn't help but ask him for an update on his Jack Ryan project. Specifically, how Clooney factors into it. Di Bonaventura had just two words for the actor: "Sorry George." Read more...
