You know how you feel when you look at one of those blogs with all of the cute and fuzzy kitten pictures? Twitter-Wood's sort of like that today with good news following Elizabeth Taylor's heart surgery, Emmy Rossum with cotton candy, Paris Hilton with a monkey, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's happy breakfast picture.
All of those pics come in addition to an announcement by Jason Reitman that "Ghostbusters" fans should not want him to direct "Ghostbusters 3," as well as an on-set shot of Rainn Wilson with the band Frightened Rabbit, who recently got a tour of the office used in "The Office." Click on down to check out those posts and more. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter-Wood report for October 9, 2009. Read more...

I suppose you'll want to ingest this news with a few grains of salt, but Bloody Disgusting has a good track record for getting this stuff right. The great news this morning is that "Ghostbusters 3" is that "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II" director Ivan Reitman is "straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt" attached to the coming sequel. He apparently hasn't decided if he's going to direct just yet -- Reitman has been relatively quiet since 2006's "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" -- but any "Ghostbusters"/Reitman pairing is certainly welcome.
To be fair, Reitman told MTV back in June that he'd been talking to Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd about "Ghostbusters 3" , essentially confirming his involvement in the project. Wait though! There's more! BD also unearthed the faint whiff of a plot detail. It's not much, but it's definitely enough to fill in a little more of that picture. And since there's no start date for the production, no casting announcements, no tentative release date... we fans will take what we can get. Read more...
Four years back, the nerd gods of film decreed that 3-D was going to be the next big movie craze. George Lucas, Jim Cameron, Peter Jackson, hell, even Randall Kleiser (the dude who directed “Grease”, who may or may not be a nerd) showed off digital 3D footage at ShoWest 2005 and declared that having movies look like they’re throwing stuff at you was The Future. Everyone else said whatever, assuring themselves that “Spy Kids 3-D” was the first and last time they’d put on a set of ridiculous glasses at the theater for the duration of the 21st century.
How wrong we were. Damn near every major motion picture is presented in the third-dimension these days. Everything from family friendly fare like “Up” to grisly thrills like “My Bloody Valentine,” the nerds were right; having movies appear to throw things at you is very heart of the entertainment zeitgeist. Movie makers seem to be inspired by the tech too, both literally (in that they’re making new stuff) and metaphorically (in that they seem to be making a fair number of part threes in old franchises). Pixar’s dusting off Tim Allen to make “Toy Story 3” and the Weinstein Co. is already working on “Halloween 3D” for next summer. It’s easy branding and titling, cooking up a part three that requires funky glasses.
For any studio out there reading, here are five guaranteed hits prepared for three-dimensionalization. Read more...
At this weekend's "Year One" press junket, MTV's Josh Horowitz got to spend some quality time with the always-affable writer/director/ghosbuster Harold Ramis. As most of you probably know, "Ghostbusters 3" has been on the lips of Ramis and his cohort Dan Aykroyd for quite some time.
First they were calling the video game, which releases this week(!), the "official" third "Ghostbusters" movie. Then things went a step further, with the revelation that "Year One" co-writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are in fact working on the script for a third movie. Read more...
Even as the first two "Ghostbusters" films get polished up to reappear in stores on Blu-ray on June 16, the films' creators are busy deciding what the long rumored sequel will look like -- even director and producer Ivan Reitman, who may still opt to reclaim both roles when the film begins production as early as this winter. Dan Aykroyd has named Harold Ramis as his favorite to replace Reitman if his schedule is too busy, but "Ghostbusters 3" could earn priority with the original director if the script is right.
"I’ve never ruled [directing it] out," Reitman told MTV News. "I certainly was responsible in every capacity for the first two movies so I certainly wouldn't wander away from the third one—especially if it's something we all think is worth doing." Read more...
To quote the always-shrill Janine Melnitz, "We've got one!" After years of fan speculation and incorrect rumors, it looks like "Ghostbusters 3" is finally moving forward. And we're not talking about the upcoming video game. "Ghostbusters" star Dan Aykroyd, who along with Harold Ramis has been very much involved with the aforementioned game, said that there is a genuine third film in the works.
"I think we're going to be in production fairly soon," Aykroyd told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog. "We could be in production by winter."
Aykroyd has been championing a third "Ghostbusters" flick for quite some time, and he's finally been able to motivate previous cast members to sign up for another tour. Even the normally cagey Bill Murray will join the fray, despite years of gossip that blamed him for stalling a third outing. Aykroyd defended his fellow actor, saying that the blame lies on several sets of shoulders. Read more...
Sigourney Weaver may still be on the fence about committing to "Ghostbusters 3," despite Harold Ramis' confidence that "everybody" from the films' original cast "said they'd do it." Series star and writer Dan Aykroyd, meanwhile, appeared hopeful that Weaver would return, reiterating her hesitation to sign on, but he also let slip some possible spoilers for the new film, including the nature of the franchise's next wave of Proton Pack wearers.
"When we do the 'Ghostbusters 3' movie, hopefully, Sigourney will be in it," Aykroyd told a group of reporters at a round-table interview. "I know we'll make that happen. But there will be a whole new generation that has to be trained, and that whole new generation will be led by an individual who you'll all love when you meet him but I'm not going to tell you anything yet." Have you ever wanted to chat with one of your favorite actors in a pit filled with stuffed children's toys? Well if the answer to that is a resounding "hells yeah!" and you're a Pull Rudd admirer, you're about to be very jealous of me. In our brand spanking new Rough Cut interview with Paul Rudd I galavant around an arcade with the "Role Models" star. It begins with skeeball and ends in a giant contraption filled with plush toys. Watch the shenanigans below!
Now about those "Ghostbuters 3” rumors...I asked Paul once and for all if there's any truth to him signing on for the upcoming sequel. Here's what he had to say: Read more...
The Internet has been ablaze since it was confirmed that two writers from "The Office" are indeed hard at work on "Ghostbusters 3." So what does Bill Murray think about the whole thing? "I hope they go back to the original version," he stated to MTV News, before adding that he'd like to see a female touch in a new crop of recruits. "I think it'd be funny to have a girl ghostbuster."
Check out his thoughts on the matter below, and then click here to watch our entire interview with the "City of Ember" actor.
