Wasn’t “The Soloist” hilarious? Remember all those crazy scenes of Robert Downey Jr. spilling urine on himself, and Jamie Foxx acting like he might be insane? Ah, good times, good times.

Oh wait, “Soloist” was a drama? Well, now that you mention it, maybe I shouldn’t have been laughing so much. Either way, the good news is that Foxx and Downey Jr. are reuniting for a real comedy from the director of “The Hangover.” And this time, I’m pretty sure it’ll be okay to laugh.

“Yeah, it’s called ‘Due Date,’” Jamie Foxx said of the film, issuing some high praise for director Todd Phillips, who also made “Old School” a frat-house classic. “He is the funniest guy in the world.” Read more...

After last Friday's "cheese stands alone" release of "Couples Retreat," we're back this Friday with a range of options for moviegoers of all shapes and sizes. The big one of course is director Spike Jonze' adaptation of "Where the Wild Things Are." I can't really say that it's a kids movie, but anyone who holds their childhood memories of the book close will feel some strong nostalgia for Jonze' interpretation. It's weird and beautiful and oddly aimless; this is as perfect a pairing of director and source as there's ever been.

Next up is director F. Gary Gray's thriller "Law Abiding Citizen," starring Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx. Butler plays a family man whose life is torn away from him after his wife and kids are murdered. Ten years after the tragic incident, the widow seeks revenge on the assistant district attorney (Foxx) who allowed the killers to go free. All from the confines of a jail cell. Did I mention that Butler's character is an inventor by trade? Read more...

I don't care that "Gamer" is coming out at the tail end of the summer. It's no footnote. As a longtime fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger's classic "The Running Man," this feels like a spiritual successor wired for a new generation. The manhunt game show is replaced by a manhunt video game and Richard Dawson gets the boot in favor of Michael C. Hall, who can chew scenery with the best of 'em. Let's also not forget "300" star Gerard Butler; he's no Ahnuld (who is?), but he's definitely got his macho action routine on lockdown.

Check out our exclusive "Gamer" TV spot below for a taste of the relentless action.

The coming Labor Day weekend box office isn't marked by a single heavy-hitting blockbuster. Which isn't to say movie-goers don't have options. Even putting aside summer leftovers like "Inglourious Basterds," "District 9" and the past weekend's "Halloween II"/"The Final Destination" two-fer, the weekend brings several new offerings which service a wide cross-section of viewing tastes.

For the hopeless romantics and traditional date night-ers among us, there's "All About Steve," starring summer favorites Sandra Bullock ("The Proposal") and Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover"). When Mary Horowitz (Bullock) falls for her blind date, a news cameraman (Cooper), she sets off on a trip to follow him. Too bad he thinks she's a nutball. Read more...

Bryan Singer-- Robert Rodriguez has some updates on "The Jetsons," "Predators," "Nervewrackers" and "Sin City 2." Click it. You know you'd like to know more. (Sci Fi Wire)

-- Huge news. Bryan Singer is now confirmed to be directing a silver screen reboot of "Battlestar Galactica." This was reported earlier by Hitfix, but the news has now been confirmed. Fans of Ron Moore's take on the franchise shouldn't rise up in angry protest just yet. The project is literally at ground zero right now. With Singer on board, now it's time to find a writer, figure out the course such a project might take. Might Ron Moore step in to deliver a script? Anything is possible. We shall see, fellow "BSG" fans. (Variety) Read more...

Will ArnettWow is this a busy week. After the runaway success of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" last week -- and other shoe-in blockbusters in the weeks before it -- it's nice to see a little bit of variety for Friday's releases. "G-Force," with showings in two and three dimensions both, is an easy weekend win for families, provided they're not making a repeat (or first-time) trip to Hogwarts.

The CG animated adventure about a secret agent force of talking guinea pigs is a big-ticket item for a number of reasons. It is Disney's first (non-concert) live-action release shot in Digital 3-D. It is also produced by blockbuster-meister Jerry Bruckheimer in his 3-D debut. Then there's the knockout ensemble cast, which includes Nicolas Cage, Penélope Cruz, Steve Buscemi, Tracy Morgan, Will Arnett, Bill Nighy and Zach Galifianakis. Yeah, wow. Read more...

Gerard ButlerAs much as we would like to see Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx just hanging out onscreen for two hours, it's probably better that they have finally found a cast to act alongside. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Gambon, Leslie Bibb, Colm Meaney, and Theresa Randle have joined the cast of "Law Abiding Citizen." Not a moment too soon either -- the film is expected to begin shooting on January 21st.

"Citizen" centers around a district attorney (played by Foxx) who orchestrates a plea bargain that sets free the killers of another man's family. The aggrieved victim (played by Butler) then seeks personal justice from the D.A. There's no hint yet as to what roles our new castmembers will be taking on. Read more...

Jennifer AnistonThis movie deal comes with some major tabloid baggage. If you're a follower of celebrity gossip, you know that everyone was certain that Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler were an item. It turns out those "business lunches" were just that -- business. According to Variety, they're in negotiations to star in an untitled romantic comedy for Columbia Pictures.

Andy Tennant, man of a thousand romantic comedies, is attached to direct the prison caper. Butler will play a bounty hunter who's hired to retrieve his ex-wife, played by Aniston, who has skipped bail. The prison angle explains the rumors that Aniston wanted Butler for the women's prison drama "Goree Girls," which makes you wonder how many prison movies Aniston might be in talks for. Read more...

Frank DarabontThis is one film that can't seem to catch a break. Mere days after it snagged an A-list star in Jamie Foxx, "Law Abiding Citizen" loses its director -- and given that he was none other than Frank Darabont, that's a pretty stunning loss.

According to Ain't It Cool News, the relationship between the film and its director "ended ugly" but no further details have been forthcoming. Read more...

Milo VentimigliaThe teaser trailer for "Game" won't be out until the holidays -- since the film was just delayed until next year -- but co-star Milo Ventimiglia ("Heroes") said it'll be worth the wait.

The game in "Game" -- from "Crank" and "Pathology" creators Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor -- is a futuristic multiplayer in which you can control other people. Gerard Butler's, John Leguizamo's, and Ventimiglia's characters are forced to play first person games, and are considered just Sim-like avatars by the people who play them, and control their actions remotely, much like you would on a Wii.
