As a lifelong “Star Wars” nut, I grew up believing in a supreme being that you didn’t worship every Sunday at church, but rather in a movie theater on a Friday night. I’m speaking, of course, about George Lucas.
As children, we all grew up thinking he was the ultimate auteur, who’d dreamt up every eccentric alien, battered space ship, and gonk droid himself. But now, the Comic-Con floor is buzzing with anticipation over “Clone Wars,” the slick-looking CG “Star Wars” flick that hits theaters next month. So I had to ask: After handing over the reigns to so many animators, how much creative input does the film’s “Executive Producer” still exert?
“It’s more like I have milestones, almost like I have a final exam every couple weeks,” grinned director Dave Filoni when I sat down with him backstage after unveiling footage to eager geeks, explaining that George isn’t quite as hands-on as he used to be. Read more...
Nineteen years after he last hung up his whip, the man with the hat is officially back next weekend, when "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" opens May 22. Now just how much longer will we have to wait before he returns again?
That's the question we're asking today with news that George Lucas has already come up with a storyline for a potential 5th Indiana Jones film. The Search for Atlantis? The Quest for the Fountain of Youth? How about, the Pursuit of a New Leading Man?
Believe it, Lucas told Fox News, saying that any future installment of the Indy franchise would most likely move forward with Shia LaBeouf's Mutt Williams as the main character, Indy regulated to sidekick status, a la Sean Connery in "Last Crusade." Read more...

About two weeks ago, we got the call that everyone should get at least once in their life: an invitation from film producer George Lucas to visit his legendary Skywalker Ranch. Oh yes, it's true!
According to The Wall Street Journal, the 5000-acre Skywalker Ranch (only 15 acres have been developed) cost Lucas $100 million; it's home to one of the finest collections of film memorabilia in the world, most famously from "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars." Read more...

After a long script-writing process for "Indiana Jones 4" that he told MTV News last spring was "a waste of a year," celebrated director Frank Darabont wondered in November whether there would be any arbitration over credit, given how many of his own ideas seemed to find a way into David Koepp's "Crystal Skulls."
So we wondered: Now that the movie has been finished, will Darabont at last get to see his name on the big screen for an Indiana Jones adventure?
"Nope. Not on this one," Darabont said when we caught up with him last week. "I know there are some common elements to what I gave Steven [Spielberg] and what was eventually shot, but I guess not enough to warrant credit. It's clearly a disappointment, especially after Steven loved my script." Read more...
Hollywood is filled with the what-could-have-beens...Tom Selleck as Indy, Dougray Scott as Wolverine, Nicolas Cage as Superman. And with an eye towards a galaxy far, far away, don't forget Ryan Phillippe as Anakin Skywalker, at the time one of the most aggressively pursued roles in Hollywood.
Of course, the winning candidate was Hayden Christensen, but Phillippe -- soon to be seen in this weekend's "Stop-Loss" -- confirmed to MTV News that he nearly had the part, making it so far as to meet with George Lucas and Queen Amidala herself. "I read with Natalie Portman," the actor revealed. "I think it was sort of an age thing in their mind. It wasn't quite right, but yeah, they were interested."
