Tim BurtonAs part of our Thankful Week here at MTV News, we've selected the top five folks in entertainment for whom we're most thankful. Lucky for us, we chatted with the man himself recently about all things "Alice," and got a few quick updates on four of his upcoming projects: "Dark Shadows," "Frankenweenie," "The Addams Family" and "Maleficent." Do you hear that sound? It's a million fanpeople crying out for joy at the fact that Disney has revealed the official release dates for a pair of particularly long-awaited projects. First we've got "John Carter of Mars," adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic sci-fi series. This is something that has been percolating since the '30s if you can believe it, when Disney approached the then-living author with the idea of producing an animated film based on his book.

That obviously didn't pan out; a number have attempts have been made since then, but it's finally happening. "Carter" just wrapped and is now set for a June 8, 2012 release. The movie was directed by Andrew Stanton with a screenplay from Michael Chabon; Taylor Kitsch has the title role.

Also confirmed is Tim Burton's long-awaited "Frankenweenie," which is based on a comedy horror short that the filmmaker made during his college days. The original story follows a man who brings his dead dog back to life, presumably with no help from Fred Gwynne. A March 9, 2012 release is nailed down for that one.
