The plight of "The Three Stooges" has been a long one. Thirteen years long, according to Pete and Bobby Farrelly, who are inching closer and closer to an actual start date for production on the film. First, three heavyweight actors were cast, then they all dropped out. Then three other less-heavyweight, but comedically-qualified types were rumored to have signed on. But have they really?

MTV News recently caught up with the brothers Farrelly during the press day for their upcoming comedy "Hall Pass," and I asked them to address the rumors -- specifically, if Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samberg and Aussie comedian Shane Jacobson were a 'go' to play the Stooges.

"No, there’s been a lot of casting speculation on 'The Three Stooges," Bobby said. "All I can say is that we are going to make the movie, we’re going to make it this spring. We have not finalized casting yet."

Can you hear that creaking noise? It's the sound of the Farrelly brothers-led "Hall Pass" straining beneath the weight of the huge -- and ever-growing -- ensemble cast. A group that currently includes Owen Wilson, Amanda Bynes, Jenna Fischer, "The Office" star Stephen Merchant, "Saturday Night Live" comic Jason Sudeikis, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" favorite J.B. Smoove (LEON!), Nicky Whelan and Derek Waters.

Today, The Hollywood Reporter brings the news that four more have joined the cast: Christina Applegate, Alyssa Milano, "According to Jim" star Larry Campbell and "Weird Science" TV series star Vanessa Angel. Whew. Read More...

Rats, spiders, sharks? Bring ‘em on. In the grand scheme of things, I don’t possess a lot of fears, phobias or terrors. But there is one thing I am deathly afraid of, something that has literally kept me up at night: The new “Three Stooges” movie.

As I’ve written before, I’m a lifelong Stoogemaniac who can’t help but feel that the Farrelly Brothers’ planned reboot is a bad, bad idea. So, when I caught up with Benicio Del Toro over the weekend at the press junket for this week's "The Wolfman," I just had to hear it from his own mouth: They’re seriously going to make this thing?

“Well, we’re not there yet,” explained the “Traffic” Oscar-winner, who is planning to play Moe Howard. “But the idea is still alive.” Read More...

Is it a coincidence that both stars of "Wedding Crashers" are in the trades today for new projects involving marital infidelity? Earlier, I brought word of Vince Vaughn's untitled collaboration with Ron Howard. As for Owen Wilson, his movie, titled "Hall Pass," will be helmed by raunch-loving brothers Peter and Bobby Farrelly ("There's Something About Mary"). The siblings will be shooting this before their "Three Stooges" update, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Hall Pass" seems appropriate to follow the Farrelly brothers' last effort, "The Heartbreak Kid," which involved a marriage doomed from the start. The comedy will star Wilson as a man whose wife gives him the freedom to cheat while their relationship is in a lull. I'm picturing a sex-filled montage akin to the one in "Wedding Crashers," though it's more likely Wilson's character doesn't end up actually committing the allowed adultery. Here's what the Farrellys told MTV News about the idea more than two years ago: Read More...

'The 3 Stooges'As a lifelong, die-hard 3 Stooges fan, I’m not ashamed to admit that I bought a ticket and saw the 1986 dud “Stoogemania" in a movie theater. If the producers are reading this – yes, it was my father and I who gave you folks the $10 that the movie grossed domestically.

Until today, the idea of casting Zero Mostel’s kid as “Howard F. Howard” in a poorly-written clunker stuffed with archive footage was one of the worst Hollywood ideas I’d ever seen executed on the silver screen. Then, I read that the rumors were true and that the Farrelly brothers were casting Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio del Toro as the new Stooges. Josh Mostel, you might finally be off the hook. The Farrelly BrothersI'm sure fans of "The Three Stooges" have long wished for a full-length movie starring the legendary comedy trio. Who wouldn't want to see those three bashing each other in the head for two hours? But do you want to see them bad enough to accept three new Stooges in their place? Because according to Variety, that's exactly what the Farrelly Brothers have in mind. MGM is reviving the long-delayed project, allowing the director siblings to direct a brand new Stooges comedy for the studio.

"Three Stooges" won't be a remake or a biopic, but an original script penned by the Farellys and Michael Cerrone, starring three actors who will look, sound, dress, and act just like the Stooges. The movie will be structured similarly to the original short films, and feature a story that will span over three installments that are roughly 30 minutes each. Read More...
