MTV's After Hours has made a name for itself creating the highest quality late night entertainment around. But now, with the help of Ice T, the series could be making its big break into prime time programming.

Enter "Snowy River," which absolutely was definitely not shot on location at the Sundance Film Festival or anything like that (hint: okay maybe it was). Snowy River is a mysterious town with many terrifying murderers on the loose (you could get killed for playing peek-a-boo) and even more interesting inhabitants (just wait until you see the Inarticulate Twins). As the trailer teases, it will be a lot better than "NCIS"... we hope.

Elijah Wood is well accustomed to getting his crazy on. Please see his disturbing turn as feel-no-pain and claw-all-limbs-off serial killer Kevin in "Sin City" for more, or check out his dog-talking ways on "Wilfred" for further reference.

But when it comes to his work in the upcoming remake of "Maniac," Wood's brand of insanity falls more in line with the murderous Kevin than the comparatively sane Ryan Newman. Wood stars in the updated version of the 1980 horror film as Frank Zito, a New York City loner who serves as landlord of a small apartment complex by day and stalks the streets to kill women by night.

Wood's turn as Zito is bound to be very different from the late Joe Spinell's cult classic version of the character, not just because of their physical differences, but also because director Alejandre Aja has apparently opted to shoot "Maniac" entirely from Wood's own perspective.

The first thing you notice during this new production diary for "The Hobbit"? The dwarves.

The dwarves are kayaking through the river in a big raft. They're on location, riding horses and brandishing swords and running against green screens. There's a lot to see; twelve minutes of it, to be exact, taking you through the trailers and the production studios and the computer labs where all of the work gets done.

Check out the "Hobbit" trailer!

There's honestly too much to summarize, so you'll have to check it out for yourself. That said, the Shire shows up, as do Elijah Wood (reprising Frodo) and Ian McKellan (reprising Gandalf). Hobbiton's been recreated for the new film, and Wood gives his thoughts on returning to the Tolkien-verse after 11 years away. Andy Serkis (Gollum) also shows up -- as a 2nd Unit Director, if you didn't know about his expanded role.

We recently brought you news about "Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood headlining a remake of William Lustig's sleazy horror classic, "Maniac." It did seem strange that the sweet and gentle Frodo would be playing a perverse psychopath hunting women in his spare time, but we were — dare we say — kind of excited to see how he'd pull it off.

Alexandre Aja ("Piranha," "Haute Tension") is producing the remake that finds Wood as a creepy killer working at an antique mannequin shop (of course). He hunts for his victims through the Internet, and like the original character Frank, has massive mommy issues. The Daily Mail grabbed some stabby snaps of the actor in action (his victim is played by Genevieve Alexandra), so click on over to see Wood get his "Maniac" on.

Alice Cooper

When Johnny Depp's Barnabas Collins throws a party, he asks Alice Cooper to bring a little musical ambiance in Tim Burton's upcoming "Dark Shadows" remake. The veteran rocker, who just released a brand new album, "Welcome 2 My Nightmare," will be appearing in the "Alice in Wonderland" director's reboot of the gothic soap opera.

Cooper plays himself in the movie — which is set in 1972 — and he'll be performing the classic "No More Mr. Nice Guy" for his Collins party set. On rock, horror, and comedy, Cooper told the Los Angeles Times: "Tim Burton knows it so well. He’s one of a kind. He’s a kindred spirit."

There's a lot of horror happening at Santa Monica's American Film Market (AFM) this week — which means there's a lot of wheelin' and dealin' for new projects in the pipeline that want to get made. See what new terror tales are being previewed this week, and catch up on other horror bites past the break.

You think you know Elijah Wood. But, to quote an old saying 'round these parts, you have no idea.

If you thought, for example, that he got all of his ring-created rage out of his system during "Lord of the Rings," you were wrong. Thought that "Sin City" gave him the great psychotic outlet he so desperately needed? Not so. No, Elijah most certainlly still has some mischief up his sleeve, as MTV's Josh Horowitz learned in the latest edition of After Hours.

The occasional Frodo Baggins, currently starring in FX's hilarious new comedy series "Wilfred," is a noted fan of our work here at MTV News, so he swung by to get the lowdown on what goes on here in the newsroom. Turns out, that's not the only reason he was here. Watch the video below and look into Wood's evil Eye of Sauron for yourself.

Peter JacksonPeter Jackson is heading back to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien with some very familiar faces joining him for "The Hobbit," but if the director executes his vision properly, the landscape of Middle-Earth could look quite different.

The director provided a lengthy update on the technical side of "The Hobbit" on his official Facebook page, confirming what many had previously reported: he's shooting his two-part "Lord of the Rings" prequel at 48 frames per second, as opposed to the traditional method of shooting at 24 FPS.

Jackson breaks down what this change means for the casual film fan by saying: "We’ve been watching 'Hobbit' tests and dailies at 48 fps now for several months, and we often sit through two hours worth of footage without getting any eye strain from the 3-D. It looks great, and we've actually become used to it now, to the point that other film experiences look a little primitive."

We already expected "The Hobbit" to wow us on the visual side of things, and now we're even more intrigued by the cinematic possibilities of Jackson's latest. But it's not just the technical side of "The Hobbit" that caught our eye in this update — Jackson also included a photograph of himself standing beside an array of monitors that seem to depict the first appearance of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins. It's hard to make out, but this certainly looks like the beginnings of Bilbo's momentous encounter with Gollum — a scene we already know has been shot.
