As so many of the other posts here on MTV Movies Blog today already did today, I'm first going to remind you that "New Moon" is now in theaters. See, it's kind of a big deal. And as you might imagine, we have vampires on the brain as a result.
Now even the most rabid Twilighter will tell you that Stephenie Meyer's series isn't for everyone. The phenomenon has definitely grown beyond the core audience of teenage girls, but there are still those who prefer to see their blood-suckers swimming in entrails and terrorizing and unknowing public. Well we've got you covered. Really it's Hollywood that has you covered; I'm just here to give you an update. In the coming year and beyond, there are quite a number of vampire movies coming out, catering to a variety of audiences. Two more "Twilight" movies sure, but what else? Hit the jump to read about a few of our highlights. Read more...
"New Moon" hits theaters today, but I'm betting that at least a good portion of you saw it last night in a midnight screening. I'll be seeing it this weekend -- tomorrow morning, in fact -- but I figured it would be best to leave the late night viewing to the real fans. Besides, something told me that late-night "New Moon" revelers were going to be a loud crowd to see the movie with. Lord knows I gasped and hooted during "The Phantom Menace." I figure a morning matinee will be a bit... quieter. Only a bit.
But I'm not here to talk about "New Moon." That's out in theaters now. It's old news. "Eclipse" is the new hotness. In six months we get to board this train again when the third movie in the "Twilight" series hits theaters. And now that the "New Moon" has risen, we've gotten our first taste of "Eclipse" in the form of a teaser poster, available exclusively through the "Twilight" Tracker app for iPhone and iPod Touch. FROM MTV.COM: If you've only seen the movie "Twilight" and plan to watch the sequel "New Moon" this weekend, you might get caught up in all the Team Edward vs. Team Jacob hype. If you haven't read Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novels, you might not know which monstrous young man ends up with Bella, and you might not know about some of the stranger elements of "Breaking Dawn."
Taylor Lautner, however, has read the books. And with a "Breaking Dawn" movie as inevitable as death, taxes and "CSI" spin-offs, he's a bit freaked out about what's to come. As Taylor told us recently, he'll have to work closely with the film's director to handle the delicate material.
(Spoilers from "Breaking Dawn" are ahead!)

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: With "New Moon" opening Friday and "Eclipse" due June 2010, it seems about time we cast our gaze forward to "Breaking Dawn." And no, it's not too early. Sure, the big screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's forth (and for now final) vampire romance has yet to be announced, but that didn't stop us from asking star Taylor Lautner about the "Twilight Saga"'s larger-than-life finale.
"I'm looking forward to the whole pack splitting up, that could be cool," the 19-year-old said, revealing which scene he is most excited to film for "Breaking Dawn." Taylor wasn't quite so sure, however, who should direct the last installment.

FROM MTV.COM: Rachelle Lefevre opted not to stop by the "New Moon" premiere Monday night to bid farewell the "Twilight" franchise before Bryce Dallas Howard replaces her in "Eclipse."
The actress, who plays the evil vampire Victoria in the first two movies, gave two reasons for not attending the premiere on her Twitter. "2 fans at the premiere: w/ Honey in hospital," she wrote. "& being fired from Eclipse tonight was just 2 emotional 4 me & I couldn't manage it. So sorry."

FROM MTV.COM: When "30 Days of Night" filmmaker David Slade took the reins of the "Twilight" sequel "Eclipse," his appointment seemed to raise more questions than answers. Would the über-violent filmmaker create the bloodiest film of the franchise? Would he attempt to broaden its appeal beyond women and teenage girls? How much of the creative voice would he wrestle away from Stephenie Meyer and make his own?
Now, many of those details are coming into view via a top-secret cameo Slade has filmed ... with a 1980s new-wave rock icon.
"[When I was young], I was a huge fan of a guy who does a cameo in 'Eclipse,' a guy named Peter Murphy," revealed Billy Burke, the veteran actor who plays Bella's father, Charlie Swan, when he stopped by the MTV studios this week. "He used to be the singer of Bauhaus."

I love it when headlines write themselves. This is one of those mornings. You all know who Peter Facinelli is of course. Star of the '90s high school comedy classic, "Can't Hardly Wait." Right? He's also in some movie called "Twilight," which I think has to do with vegetarians or vampires or forks or something like that. Who can tell these days?
Sooooo... right. In today's Daily TwitPic, the Cullen family patriarch poses for a photo with a cup strapped to his head. What appears to be a styrofoam cup. Not very green, Peter. I'm pretty certain this pic in some way comes from Peter's time on the "Nurse Jackie" set, as he's clearly wearing a lab coat and stethoscope. It's true that Carlisle Cullen is a doctor too, but if this were an image from the "Eclipse" set, Facinelli's face would be a whole lot paler. Anyway, hit the jump to see the "Can't Hardly Wait" star looking very serious. With a cup strapped to his head. Read more...
I have a sneaking suspicion that this post-Halloween, Monday morning Daily TwitPic is going to be familiar to a lot of you. With a fanbase as rabid as "Twilight"'s, a reveal like this has a way of spreading like wildfire across the community. Still, a Daily TwitPic is a Daily TwitPic, and this one is an early glimpse at "Eclipse."
One of the new characters introduced in the saga's third book/movie is Riley, who will be played by Xavier Samuel. He's a newborn vampire in the thrall of Victoria (previously Rachelle Lefevre, now Bryce Dallas Howard), a pawn the vampiress uses in her plans for exacting revenge on Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) for the death of her mate, James (Cam Gigandet). To celebrate last week's successful "Eclipse" wrap. director David Slade posted this first look at Samuel-as-Riley "between set ups." Read more...
"Kick-Ass" actress Chloe Moretz was among those tweeting good thoughts to Nicolas Cage and his family following the death of his father August Coppola this week. A literature professor and the brother of director Francis Ford Coppola, he reportedly died following a heart attack on Tuesday.
In other tweets, David Slade slipped a fresh image into his Twitter feed of actor Xavier Samuel from "Eclipse," which he says is the first look at Samuel's character Riley in the film. A couple of "Twilight" actors tweeted last minute contemplations over their Halloween costumes, while Edgar Wright may be giving up altogether and Russell Brand decried jack-o-lanterns as symbols for the season. Check out what they all had to say after the jump. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for October 30, 2009. Read more...
FROM MTV.COM: With filming on "Eclipse" wrapping up, we couldn't resist asking "New Moon" director Chris Weitz whether he had seen any of the footage from next summer's blockbuster. He hadn't, he said, because he's been busy working hard to bring fans "New Moon," which hits theaters in less than a month. Surprisingly, he said he didn't really want to see the footage yet.
"As a fan and a filmmaker, I'm excited to see finished stuff from 'Eclipse' rather than anything in progress," Weitz said. "When you see works in progress, there's always some guy standing in front of some big green curtain, and it's all terribly disappointing. You really want to see the good stuff once it's all finished."
