Duncan Jones doesn't look to be revisiting space anytime soon, though the "Moon" filmmaker is on his way back to theaters with Jake Gyllenhaal at his side.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jones will direct "Source Code," a new science fiction thriller produced by Philippe Rousselet and Mark Gordon through the former's Vendome Pictures. Gyllenhaal is currently in talks to star.
"Source Code" focuses on a soldier that inexplicably awakens in the body of a commuter, with one or both of these characters presumably played by Gyllenhaal. In the commuter's body, the soldier is forced to solve the mystery behind a train explosion. Read more...
That image up there is the first bit of concept art for "Moon" director Duncan Jones' sophomore effort, "Mute." Very little is known about the project, other than the fact that it is set in a futuristic Berlin and that it follows a mute bartender as he searches for his missing lady. "Moon" was easily one of the most inventive science fiction efforts of the decade, right alongside Neill Blomkamp's "District 9," so Jones could be doing something about an international cabal of baby assassins and I'd still be interested.
The website where the image appeared, Liberty Films, also lists Jones and Mike Johnson ("Sherlock Holmes") as the writers. The shoot is set to get underway in early 2010. Read more...
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing. We went into space people! And landed on another planet! ANOTHER PLANET!!
Anyway. A lot of moon-related chatter buzzing Around the Blogosphere today. Along with a few other things that are similarly out of this world. Like unbearable movies and unbearable movie journalists. I don't like to sling mud at my colleagues, but names aren't named and there's some funny stuff to read. Don't take my word for it though. Protests, marches, and link-passing have taken over Twitter following last week's contested election results in Iran, and the Twitter-Wood feed has been no exception. Alyssa Milano has been particularly persistent with her #iranelection-tagged tweets, and directors Errol Morris, James Gunn, and Jon Favreau all logged on to comment on the events in Tehran.
Meanwhile, a few tweets squeaked through with details from the "Iron Man 2" and "Casino Jack" sets, as well as from Wil Wheaton's guest appearance on the TNT series "Leverage." Also, Jonah Hill joins Kat Dennings and Nick Jasenovec in doubting the legitimacy of the controversial Michael Cera Twitter account that I've mentioned before. Click onward for all of these, birthday wishes to actor Michael Showalter, a much more in 140 characters or less in today's Twitter-Wood report! Read more...

FROM MTV.COM: Making a sci-fi outer-space movie for $5 million has to be like building a palace on pocket change. English director Duncan Jones has done it, though. "Moon," his first feature, an assemblage of miniature models, carefully applied CGI, meticulous production design and an extraordinary performance by Sam Rockwell, takes — or returns — cinematic science fiction to some fascinating places.

I've got every intention of getting out of the house this weekend to see "Moon." "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" certainly appeals to the action blockbuster maniac in me, but from what I hear Duncan Jones' sci-fi head trip is where it's at.
Since I really like to reach for content here on MTV Movies Blog, and since this video is so amusing, here's another moon for you to check out. This one doesn't feature Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey, and it's a bit blurry, but you do get Jack Black and Kyle Gass -- aka Tenacious D -- chatting it up with Shaquille O'Neal. Wondering where the moon fits in? Watch the video and see for yourself.
Director Duncan Jones' "Moon" has been garnering rave reviews in its festival appearances. It's an inventive sci-fi thriller starring Sam Rockwell as a lone moon outpost worker seemingly going mad. I haven't actually seen it yet, but the buzz I've heard so far has me sold. I'm not the only one either, as Jones has officially secured his next project.
The director will trade one alien landscape for another as he shifts from "Moon" to "Escape from the Deep." Variety reports that the project is an adaptation of Alex Kershaw's novel, which tells the true story of a World War II sub stranded at the bottom of the ocean after being struck by one of its own torpedoes. Kershaw will also deliver the screenplay. Read more...
