Johnny DeppJohnny Depp is poised to star as yet another colorful author in the upcoming Dr. Seuss biopic.

He is reported to be producing the project, but is also considering playing beloved children's author, born Theodor Geisel, in the upcoming flick. Though the movie won't end up relying on CGI as much as, say, "Alice in Wonderland" did, the flick's producers did say that it will include some animated elements. Depp has already portrayed "Peter Pan" author J.M. Barrie and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" author Hunter S. Thompson on the big screen.

In the weeks prior, Guillermo del Toro had promised a big announcement for San Diego Comic-Con. He didn't disappoint: "Haunted Mansion" is getting a remake, and it's going to be del Toro-ified. Still, the guy has a ton of other projects that fans are curious about. MTV's Josh Horowitz asked him about two in particular when they sat down for a chat during the 'Con: "Frankenstein" and "Van Helsing."

"Frankenstein-- in the next few weeks we are doing a very, very thorough makeup test on Doug Jones. And we're gonna film it," del Toro said. Jones, of course, is the longtime collaborator who is perhaps best known for wearing the Abe Sapien suit in "Hellboy" and the Pale Man & Pan suits in "Pan's Labyrinth." Read More...

In the first "Wizard of Oz" movie, Dorothy sure wasn't in Kansas anymore -- but in Todd McFarlane's proposed reimagining of the franchise, it's unclear if Dorothy is even in Oz anymore.

Based on his "Twisted Land of Oz" action figure line, McFarlane's upcoming "Wizard of Oz" film promises a lot more mayhem and mischief than a winged monkey could ever muster, and you don't have to take McFarlane's word for it -- the action figures themselves speak volumes about this dark and dangerous new Oz.

Given the horrifying look of the toys, it's tough to imagine who could play these mangled versions of L. Frank Baum's classic characters -- but that's not stopping me from trying! After the jump, check out the five actors that I'd like to see in McFarlane's new "Oz" film. Read More...

Doug JonesA couple weeks ago, I posted about Guillermo del Toro making some comments on two of his upcoming projects, "The Hobbit" and "Frankenstein." Specifically, he commented on the participation of one Doug Jones, a frequent del Toro collaborator. He was the body of Abe Sapien in both "Hellboy" flicks (to David Hyde Pierce's voice), Pan in "Pan's Labyrinth" and a mutant cockroach-thing in "Mimic."

In the older interview, del Toro revealed that Jones will play some unrevealed part in "The Hobbit," prequel to Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, and the title role of the monster in the director's down-the-road adaptation of "Frankenstein." Sci Fi Wire cornered Jones this past weekend, when he appeared at the Wizard's World Philadelphia convention. The actor was happy to clarify some of del Toro's revelations from his own perspective. Doug Jones wants you to know that he would play a hemorrhoid in a Guillermo del Toro film if asked, that he would follow the visionary "Hellboy" director anywhere he chooses to go. Doug Jones also wants you to know that he hopes that includes "The Hobbit," del Toro's next project. Most of all, though, Doug Jones wants you to know that he isn't officially cast in that movie, that there's nothing on paper, that anything and everything could change, and that to state or otherwise imply otherwise would be premature at best and plain wrong at worst.

And we wouldn't dare go against any of these desires. Except, well, there's one tiny thing more Doug Jones also wants you to know:

"There's been lots of speculation. I wouldn't want to ruin anything. Guillermo creates things with me in mind and he's got a better image of what I can do than I do," the man otherwise known as the Silver Surfer and Abe Sapien told MTV News, a wicked and knowing smile across his face. "However, there might be an elf king, father of Legolas kind of character that I would love." Read More...
