Django Unchained

With the latest addition of Kerry Washington, the already impressive cast of Quentin Tarantino's next movie, "Django Unchained," just got a little more impressive. Throw in his other recent hire -- Don Johnson -- and it's clear that the auteur is up to his usual quirky casting tricks. Tarantino has always been known for his, ah, interesting choices with his ensemble casts, pulling from both mainstream Hollywood actors and the dustiest corners of pop culture, and resurrecting the careers of fallen stars.

"Django Unchained" is no exception, but how does it stack up with the rest of Tarantino's oeuvre? It's got some tough competition from what have become iconic ensembles, so let's take a look at where the new cast stands in comparison.

Johnny Depp"The Lone Ranger" isn't so lonely anymore.

After much deliberating and negotiating, Disney has finally decided to move forward with Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski's remake of "The Lone Ranger." Though the movie now has a green light (again), it won't start filming until next year and thus likely won't be able to maintain its original December 21, 2012 release date. Deadline has the details.

If it feels like you've been waiting since forever for "Machete" to hit theaters, well, you're a little bit off the mark, but not too far. Since the arrival of its mock trailer in 2007's "Grindhouse," fans have been hootin' and hollerin' for an extended exploration of the brutal Machete, the culmination of the glorious Danny Trejo's esteemed career playing ruthless badass after ruthless badass.

This morning's Daily TwitPic has absolutely nothing to do with "New Moon." I know that was the weekend highlight for many of you, but no one on the Twitter-Wood feed last Friday seemed will to share pics of their glittered-covered selves. Go figure.

Nonetheless, today's pic made me do a little bit of a double-take. These three guys may have history on television, but they couldn't have come from more different places. There's Larry King of course, armed and dangerous in this pic, and celebrating his birthday party. Then you've got Ryan Seacrest, "American Idol" host and "E! News" fixture. And finally there's Don Johnson. Some of you younger folk might not recognize him, and that's a shame. He was one half of the crime-fighting super-team on "Miami Vice." It's an odd lineup... hit the jump to see it. Read More...

This video just goes to show you: when Danny Trejo asks for action, Danny Trejo gets action. Does that look like a man you want to eff with? I didn't think so. And now that Trejo will be joined in "Machete" by the oddball supporting cast of Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey ("Lawnmower Man"!!!!) and Jessica Alba, everyone on the planet has to see it. It's a requirement. Seriously. I think the world might explode if we don't.

Lake BellIf the title of "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" gives it all away, how's this one: "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy." It's an upcoming sex comedy about a guy named Eric (played by "SNL"'s Jason Sudeikis) who has been living at his parents' house in the Hamptons, until his father (played by Don Johnson) decides to sell it. Eric wants to throw one last party to end all parties, and decides to throw an orgy.

"It's like 'The Big Chill,' but with an orgy at the end," laughed co-star Lake Bell when we caught up with her at the premiere of her latest film, "Pride and Glory." "Or is there? They invite you over for it, but whether it happens, that's a whole 'nother can of worms."

Bell's character Alison is a pretentious psychiatrist from the Upper West Side, and is against the orgy taking place. Read More...
