Alvin and the Chipmunks'Ever since my all-time favorite action film, "Die Hard," burst onto the scene in 1988, it has influenced dozens of other movies. Everything from "Under Siege" to "Speed" to "The Rock" has been cloned from the Bruce Willis classic - as have three additional adventures starring John McClane. But you might be surprised when you hear the latest film to tip its cap towards Bruno's iconic character.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks"???

"Yeah," confirmed Justin Long, whose character Alvin screams "Yippee-ki-yay, mamasita!" in a chase scene while dodging between villainous security guards. "[20th Century Fox] wanted it. It was the same studio. They thought it would be hilarious to do a little 'Die Hard' reference." Read more...

Alan Rickman, Timothy Olyphant, William Sadler...look, you guys are great. Love the mugging. Dig the accents. But let's face it, you're not what the "Die Hard" series needs. You're not real-life badasses (I've seen you in "Truly Madly Deeply," Mr. Rickman. Tisk, tisk).

No, Justin Long and I agree, what the "Die Hard" series needs most moving forward is a real-life convict, someone hard, someone who's actually been to jail, someone who can be a real foil for John McClane.

"Paris Hilton!" Long enthused. Wait, what? "I would like to see Paris Hilton be the bad guy [in "Die Hard 5”]," Long joked with MTV News. "That would be fun. Let her play a diabolical, super-scientist or something like that." The hotel heiress even bears a remarkable resemblance to a former "Die Hard" baddie, Long pointed out. "Let's face it, she is sort of like the female Jeremy Irons," he said, laughing.

Who would you like to see match wits with John McClane? Chime in below.

As he steps foot on the set of "Indiana Jones 4” this week, a nervously excited Shia LaBeouf has a message for John McClane, Rambo, Rocky, and all the other 80's-era action stars who are trying to make a comeback. "This is so different, dude," he said. "This isn't 'Rambo' or 'Die Hard.' You're talking about different class levels."

The recently-turned-21 "Transformers" star told us that, in the grand scheme of cinematic history, those other iconic characters wish they could hold a candle to Harrison Ford's adventuring archeologist. "'Die Hard' isn't looked at the same way as 'Indiana Jones.' Nor is 'Rambo,' or any of those movies," he insisted. "'Indiana Jones' is like one of the best movies ever made; 'Raiders' is like one of the best films ever created, action or not. It's a whole different vibe." Read more...

MTV's "Inside the Action" takes you inside the hottest action flicks by re-creating their most explosive stunts. On deck this week is "Live Free or Die Hard," (the show premieres on MTV Sunday night at 11:30pm) and we brought together co-stars Bruce Willis and Justin Long and director Len Wiseman to witness our fiery carnage first-hand. Watch a segment below -- or see the entire show here -- and then keep reading after the jump for the full behind-the-scenes report from the show's writer.

I've been going on MTV shoots for 8 years now (wow, that freaks me out), but this "Inside the Action" was certainly unusual. I mean, I'd never blown up a car before. Read more...
