An "Evil Dead" remake is on the way, and you have screenwriter Diablo Cody to thank -- partially, at least.

MTV News caught up with Cody while she was promoting her new movie "Young Adult" and couldn't resist asking about her revisions on the latest drafts of Fede Alvarez's "Evil Dead" script, and she admitted that she didn't know how many details she could spill about the highly anticipated remake. She was willing to share how she contributed to the project, though.

"It was really important again to the filmmakers that it remain totally grounded in reality and timeless. They weren't trying to make some hip trendy horror movie full of pop culture references. I really hope people don't think that that's what I was hired to do," Cody said. "I came in and worked on characters and relationships, things like that."

Russell BrandHere's a pairing that comes wonderfully out of left field: Russell Brand could star in Diablo Cody's directorial debut "Lamb of God."

The news comes at us courtesy of Twitch, who learned that Brand has been offered the lead in the flick and that "Footloose" star Julianne Hough is the top choice to play the movie's leading lady. "Lamb of God" tells the story of a young conservative religious woman who loses her faith and decides to go to Vegas and "live the life of a sinner," but ends up finding her faith along the way.

Bob DylanTwitter-Wood kicks off today with a big birthday shout-out to music legend Bob Dylan, who turned 70 years old today, and we're not the only ones sending him birthday wishes, either; several people in the film community have tipped their tweets in the "Like a Rolling Stone" singer-songwriter's direction on his big day.

Elsewhere, comedy mastermind Judd Apatow and "Breaking Dawn" star Jamie Campbell Bower revealed a little bit too much about their personal lives (though the laughs we're still fighting off should tell you that we're not complaining), two recent comedies get some new appraisals and Diablo Cody pours one out for her Showtime series "The United States of Tara," which was canceled yesterday.

Rise of the Planet of the ApesThe trailer for the succinctly named "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" dropped today, sending the movie world into an ape-like frenzy. But it's not just the trailer itself that's catching some attention -- some are taking issue with the film's new title. While certain fans are upset with the name, one Hollywood director got the inside scoop on the film's "original working title."

As if that wasn't enough, the "Rock of Ages" director announced some huge casting news for the musical through his Twitter account. We won't give it away yet (okay, maybe we already did), but he's British, you know his name, and he's married to Katy Perry. Any guesses?

Play DeadThe concept of zombie movies is certainly nothing new, but the undead are biting, clawing and charming their way into Hollywood in a variety of innovative new ways nowadays. These aren't your parents zombies, be they slow or fast moving, or created by virus or curse. Nope, now they're falling in love, giving Jane Austen novels new meaning and even... playing football?

That's right. The latest of these modern zombie tales to get brought to the big screen is an adaptation of Ryan Brown's supernatural thriller "Play Dead," which follows vengeful zombie football players in a football-obsessed Texas town. Variety reports that Mark Canton, producer for George Romero's "Land of the Dead," is producing the flick and "300" screenwriter Joe Schreiber will be adapting it.

Never did we think we'd see a zombie football flick, but now that the idea is out there, we have to admit it sounds like a touchdown. And it got us thinking about what other surprising genres we'd like to see the zombies infect, and which ones it already has. Read more...

Diablo Cody has been tweeting messages and pictures from her first nine months of motherhood, so it was no surprise that all of Twitter-Wood got to enjoy an official announcement yesterday that her son Marcello Daniel Maurio has arrived.

It was a busy night in tweets, though, as "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" took over Grauman's Chinese Theatre for its premiere in Los Angeles. Edgar Wright and his cast attended, as did Nick Frost and Jennette McCurdy, according to their notes.
