The Daily TwitPic posted after the jump isn't the most impressive example of fine photography. But it does give me an excuse to talk about the strong opening director M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" had last night. The movie took in a reported $16 million in ticket sales, with the numbers of course bolstered by the higher price of 3-D screenings. While that's still short of the $25 million that "Eclipse" earned -- without the 3-D advantage, it's worth noting -- it is still an impressive figure, one that puts the Nickelodeon cartoon adaptation on track to exceed the predicted $50 million take over the July 4th weekend.

In the incredibly dark and blurry picture after the jump, you can see "Airbender" stars Aasif Mandvi and Dev Patel having a grand old time celebrating the release of the movie. I've heard that it's a strange experience for fans of "The Daily Show" to see Mandvi in a villain role in the Shyamalan flick. I've yet to see it myself -- "Eclipse" screened for press the same night -- but all of those delicious-looking visual effects are certainly going to get me into the theater this weekend. Freida Pinto and Dev PatelRumors are flying that the onscreen chemistry between Dev Patel and Freida Pinto has blossomed into a real-life romance. But, after speaking with “Slumdog Millionaire” producer Christian Colson and director Danny Boyle backstage at the Oscars, MTV confirmed that the Best Picture winners aren’t imitating art with their lives.

“Unless they are lying to me, it's not true,” Colson said candidly. “I know it’s not true.”

Gossip started to spiral out of control after 24-year-old ex-model Pinto reportedly dumped her longtime fiancé, Rohan Antao, last month. Just before they won Best Picture, Dev and Freida’s “Slumdog” co-star Anil Kapoor told Ryan Seacrest he was convinced the actors were an item. Read More...

Freida Pinto and Tim KashFrom Mumbai to London to Hollywood, "Slumdog Millionaire" apparently couldn't have arrived at a better time: In just a few weeks, the flick has gone from underdog to top dog.

After cleaning up at the Golden Globes last month, the film is poised to do so at the Oscars as well, having been nominated a massive 10 times, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Anyway, you can probably tell that I like this film a lot. So on Tuesday, it was my pleasure to spend some time with two of the film's stars, Dev Patel and the lovely Freida Pinto. Read More...

Dev PatelDev Patel is on his way to becoming a real millionaire. According to Variety, the "Slumdog Millionaire" star has just signed onto M. Night Shyamalan's live-action adaptation of "The Last Airbender." (Shyamalan has dropped "Avatar" from the title in order to avoid confusion with James Cameron's sci-fi film of the same name.) He'll be joined by Twilight's Jackson Rathbone, and newcomers Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, and Jessica Jade Andres.

Patel is playing Zuko, a member of the Fire Nation and one of the villains of the series' fantasy world. He's replacing pop star Jesse McCartney, whose tour dates left him unable to commit to the film or its boot camp. Read More...
