How do you take down a highly trained soldier, freshly double-crossed with nothing left to lose? If you're Steven Soderbergh, you hire a quartet of high profile actors to do the job for you.

According to The Playlist, Soderbergh has enlisted the services of Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor and Dennis Quaid for "Knockout," the spy-centric action movie that stars mixed martial artist Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, a super spy trying to clear her own name. Read More...

I’m not sure if you’ve learned this lesson from the past 70+ years of science fiction cinema, but here’s the deal: space is full of crazy crap that is going to try and kill you or at the very least mess with you. I know, I know-- Earth is too. The ocean is literally swimming with unfeeling monsters waiting to devour your assorted parts at the drop of a hat. And have you ever been in a densely wooded area? There are bugs waiting in there that are just as likely to masticate your life stuffs as there are giant friggin’ cats and bears. But nowhere on the planet compares to the vacuum of nothingness beyond our sun-orbiting rock. If sci-fi cinema is to be believed, that is.

This week’s "Pandorum" is merely the latest vision of extraterrestial beasties trying to kill and/or eff with us on their home turf. The good thing about sci-fi scares is that, like nature programming on TV, they act as a primer on what to watch out for if and when you find yourself in the drifting through the starry, endless night. Here are, by my reckoning, the five things in space you should always watch the hell out for. Read More...

As if last week's mixed-genre Friday openings weren't enough, we've got the same song this week as well. I'm thinking that the front-runner is "Fame." Not only does it possess an all-ages appeal, but there's also the nostalgia factor to consider. The 1980 original was quite popular, so even childless thirty-somethings can find something to enjoy with this remake. Maybe.

It's not like there aren't other options. Michael Moore is back with another message-driven doc, "Capitalism: A Love Story." This one's about the sorry state of financial affairs that our nation is currently in, with the focus on what went wrong and how we got to where we currently are. Moore is nothing if not a crowd-pleaser, so expect to find his same brand of wry, scathing humor mixed with shocking facts about corporate and governmental wrongdoings. Read More...

Cam GigandetPaul W.S. Anderson was finishing up post-production on his franchise-melding sci-fi flick, “AVP: Alien vs. Predator,” when he sat down to read a script that very much reminded him of one of the progenitors of his film: Ridley Scott’s 1979 deep space horror classic, “Alien.”

The script was simply terrifying, Anderson told MTV News in a recent interview. It was based on an original idea as opposed to the sequel-itis Hollywood had fallen victim to, and it contained mind-bending sci-fi concepts. He decided he had to make the movie. Read More...

I caught the trailer for "Pandorum," produced by the folks behind the "Resident Evil" movie trilogy, a couple weeks ago and was immediately sold. For me, the imagery summons up fond memories of Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic "Alien" and Electronic Arts' hit 2008 space horror video game "Dead Space." The brief snippets in the trailer left me wanting for more and, needless to say, I'll be there opening day when the movie opens on September 18.

Of course, there will be more "Pandorum" love to be had long before the fall release. A select few scenes will premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23 as part of a panel featuring stars Ben Foster, Cung Le and Antje Traue (FYI Twilighters: Cam Gigandet is also in the movie). Fellow star Dennis Quaid will unfortunately not be on-hand, though he'll have a few words to share with the gathered fans via a special taped greeting. I won't be at the 'Con myself, but you can be sure I'll be clicking over to MTV.com on July 23 for a look at those exclusive clips. Check out the trailer below and be afraid.

BaronessYou’ve seen the photos, heard the rumors, and even had your eardrums blown out by one star’s unparalleled sense of excitement. But the question remains: Is next summer’s “G.I. Joe” movie going to be as awesome as Michael Bay’s “Transformers,” or as laughable as Dolph Lundgren’s “Masters of the Universe”?

“We are in post-production, and it’s looking really good,” promised super-producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently, marveling over some of the early “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” scenes he’s been working on recently with director Stephen Sommers. “It’s going to be really fun, and it’s going to be big.”

The cast alone would seem to back up di Bonaventura’s boasts, with such names as Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Quaid, Marlon Wayans, Sienna Miller and others. When MTV visited the set awhile back, it was as if the soldier-stuffed toyboxes we all had as children had grown 20 times their size and been handed over to Sommers. All that remains now is to see if his plotlines are as exciting as the ones we dreamed up in our backyards all those years ago. Read More...
