Frank MillerBy Yasmine Richard

Back in the day, I caught an episode or two of "The X-Files." So when I got the call to cover the red carpet for the "X-Files: I Want to Believe" premiere, I was down to catch a sneak peek of the fabulous Gillian Anderson, a.k.a. Agent Scully.

I knew it was gonna be an interesting night when I pulled into the parking structure, got out of my car, headed to the elevator and was followed by the Joker. Good ol' Hollywood impersonators. Needless to say, I was taking the stairs.

Once I made it to the blocked-off streets of Hollywood, I was reminded of how popular the show is. There were legions of fans out there supporting those alien-chasing agents. Sometime later, the stars and makers of the film hit the red carpet, including David Duchovny, Anderson, Xzibit, director/writer Chris Carter and even the guy who made the creepy "X-Files" theme song! I hummed it for him, and he asked if he could sample my voice. I kid you not!

By far my favorite interview was with the man behind "300" and "Sin City": Frank Miller. He was gracious enough to give me some details about his upcoming movie, "The Spirit." And when I asked him how he comes up with all these crazy films he said, "To scare people like you." Yikes!

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny in 'The X-Files: I Want To Believe'It's something I've been waiting over a decade for - the chance to interview one of my favorite TV duos, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, from one of the best TV shows of all time, "The X-Files." The occasion was the press junket for their new film, "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," and it started with a flight from JFK to LAX. I arrived at the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel on Friday afternoon, and shortly afterward was on a shuttle van to the movie screening at the Zanuck Theatre, on the Fox lot.

During the short trip to the lot I spoke with some other journalists who are X-Philes like myself, and four of us sat together in the theater, forming our own little geek group. During the screening we whispered about some familiar faces that appeared onscreen, and about some folks whom we wished were included but weren't. There were some pleasant surprises, some truly frightening moments, and I left the theater pretty satisfied with this second big-screen "X-Files" adventure. Read more...

On July 24th, one of televison's most celebrated and successful series of all time will attempt its second run at the box office. "The X-Files: I Want To Believe" will reunite David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson for a supernatural mystery set outside the show's complex mythology. Time will tell whether fans still care enough to make the film a success, but in the meantime, we flashed back to 1998 when MTV correspondent Kurt Loder visited the set of "The X-Files" during its high-flying fifth season to chat up the first movie. Click here to read Kurt's reflections on the experience, and watch the segment below.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in 'The X-Files: I Want to Believe'Apparently some people out there, including at least one colleague (cough, Josh Horowitz, cough) think that the upcoming film "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" is not worth covering. I've heard several excuses: the TV show ended too many years ago; the stars are old; the movie has nothing new to offer today's audience; no one cares. Now this is a movie that, as an "X-Files" fan, I've been awaiting for some time - and I don't think I'm alone. Even for the non-fan, the casual movie-goer, there's plenty to get excited about. So, I will now give you five reasons why "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" merits our attention: Read more...

Jake KasdanI was a big fan of the much underappreciated (and virtually ignored) comedy "The TV Set" when it came out earlier this year. Starring David Duchovny as a TV series creator facing a series of vexing career dilemma as his pilot negotiates the "creative" process in Hollywood, it's a fine effort by director Jake Kasdan (set to make the leap to the big time next with the holiday comedy, "Walk Hard").

With "The TV Set" newly released on DVD, I spoke with Kasdan about the sadly small release his flick received, his leading man, and why his dad won't spill the beans on Indiana Jones.

In a strange way, it's kind of fitting that Brett Ratner is going to direct a biopic about Hugh Hefner, titled "Playboy." After all, if you can't score an invite to the mansion to rub elbows with Pauly Shore and Stephen Dorff, isn't the next best thing dropping by Chez Ratner for some quality time in a photobooth with Bob Evans?

So with "Playboy" looking to get the fast track to your local multiplex (by the way, how is it that Larry Flynt got Milos Forman and Hef gets the director of "After the Sunset"?), let's do some casting, shall we? Who should play Hef? How about...

Ewan McGregor --  The only thing stopping us from loving this idea is Ewan tends to fall a little flat when he goes American ("Stay" still makes us sleepy thinking about it). Read more...
