Fans of Vin Diesel's intergalactic serial killer Richard B. Riddick have been pretty excited these past few months, thanks to the news that the actor will be returning to the character in an all new story written and directed by "Pitch Black" helmer David Twohy. Details have been scant so far, but today brings a paragraph-long plot synopsis. And it sounds pretty cool. The story opens with Riddick betrayed and left for dead on a remote world. Only he's got plans of his own, and no one beats down the galaxy's baddest killer that easily. Check out the full synopsis over at Shock Till You Drop.

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

One of the big news items getting my fanboy heart a-pounding this month is the long-awaited return of Vin Diesel and David Twohy to the "Riddick" franchise. The news broke last week that they are going back for a third helping and then we learned just this morning the first few story details and plans for a "back-to-basics" approach. In this case, "basics" refers to "Pitch Black," the thoroughly enjoyable first movie in the series which celebrates its 10th anniversary tomorrow. Read More...

Awhile back, it was reported that Vin Diesel was doing some early work towards getting the "Riddick" series moving once again. The news became official last week, when it was reported that Universal had given the go-ahead for series creator David Twohy to write and direct what will be the third movie in the franchise, after "Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles of Riddick."

At the time, all we heard was that this next movie would fall closer in tone to the first movie, a taut sci-fi thriller, than the second, which went for more of a big, overblown action spectacle. Now, thanks to a report on the foreign sale of the movie in The Hollywood Reporter, we have our first real plot details. And they weren't kidding about the shift in tone. Read More...

Just a week shy of 10 years ago, an inventive little sci-fi flick slipped into theaters called "Pitch Black." The story focuses on a group of interstellar travelers who are marooned on a sun-baked planet after their passenger liner crash lands. The bulk of the story follows on their attempts to escape, but nothing in that movie stands out more than the character of Richard B. Riddick, played by Vin Diesel. Although he's framed as a notorious killer, Riddick won audiences over for his badass attitude and his narrow-yet-just outlook. It's not that he's an evil man; he just recognizes the realities of living in a hard universe.

The character was so popular that writer/director David Twohy conceived a spin-off, "The Chronicles of Riddick," which was meant to be a trilogy. Although it led to an exceptional video game, prequel "Escape from Butcher Bay," the first "Chronicles" failed to excite audiences in the way that "Pitch Black" did. Fans still got a deeper glimpse into the universe however, and they were left wanting when the story never continued. Until now, that is. Read More...

I love me some David Twohy. Dude definitely has some clunkers in his portfolio -- I'm looking at you, "Waterworld." I don't care though. He wrote and directed "Pitch Black," which also means that Vin Diesel's Richard B. Riddick character is Twohy's creation. He also wrote classics along the lines of "Warlock," "Critters 2: The Main Course" and a little-known movie called "The Fugitive."

Now Twohy has climbed back into the writer/director's chair after an extended post-"Chronicles of Riddick" break. "A Perfect Getway," starring Chris Hemsworth (aka Kenneth Branagh's Thor), Milla Jovovich, Timothy Olyphant and Steve Zahn, follows a newlywed couple (Zahn and Jovovich) who are off on a hiking honeymoon in Hawaii. Somewhere along the trails they run into some shady hikers and... well... things get weird. Check out the new trailer to see for yourself.
