Lindsay LohanIt's summer movie season, which means horror fans have sun, surf, and killer fish on the brain. We've been bringing you tons of "Piranha 3DD" news – because life just doesn't feel complete without it – but this week's best in horror updates also skinny-dips, battles sharks (and some invisible sea creatures), and heads to Venice, California.

Movies like "Hobo With a Shotgun" and "Machete" have breathed new life into the exploitation subgenre, and "Skinny Dip" is upping the ante with a great cast that includes Sasha Grey, badass Danny Trejo, and now Pam Grier, Michael Madsen, and Brigitte Nielsen. Meanwhile, Halle Berry is battling sharks in "Dark Tide," but the cast of "Sector 7" has to deal with a transparent monster on board their ship. There's a vampire on Venice Beach that wants to take a bite out of you. No, it isn't Lindsay Lohan, but she's dressed to kill for a new bloodsucking photoshoot that "Buffy" star Sarah Michelle Gellar would probably put a stake to.

It's all in this week's Horror Bites after the jump.

With vampire flicks all the rage these days, it was only a matter of time before someone did a remake of the 1985 horror-comedy flick "Fright Night." The movie, about a teenager who discovers that his next-door neighboor is a bloodsucker, has a huge cult following that even gathers once a year for a convention. So it should come as no surprise that a "Fright Night" redo has already been filmed and is set to hit theaters on August 19.

What might surprise you is that Colin Farrell has been tapped to play the aforementioned vampire, Jerry Dandrige, in the flick. And he's not the only familiar name you'll see in the credits: "Star Trek" actor Anton Yelchin is also aboard as the neighbor who discovers Farrell's secret, Christopher "McLovin" Mintz-Plasse plays vampire convert "Evil" Ed Thompsons, "Harry Potter" alum David Tennant is vamp-hunting actor Peter Vincent, and "Solitary Man" breakout Imogen Poots portrays love interest Amy, with Toni Collette and James Franco's brother David also popping up. When MTV News chatted with Farrell at the press day for the WWII drama "The Way Back," we talked with the star about how close the remake hews to the original... and why he took on the role.

"I mean, it's close enough in structure and story [to the original], but there are some things that have been changed," Farrell told us. "Peter Vincent's a lot younger, and what he does has kind of been put into a very contemporary setting. There are some changes." Read More...

Simon Pegg made headlines last year when stepped up to star in "Thriller" director John Landis' "Burke and Hare." The dark comedy about a couple of murderous 19th century grave robbers later grabbed former "Doctor Who" leading man David Tennant to appear next to Pegg in one of the title roles. Now, Tennant appears to have cancelled, but Landis has instead managed to cast frequent Peter Jackson collaborator Andy Serkis.

"David Tennant had to drop out of 'B&H' but by sheer glorious serendipity a legend of Middle Earth and Skull Island has come aboard. Welcome AS," Simon Pegg wrote on this Twitter account today. Read More...

While much of the world is busy bidding farewell to 2009, "Doctor Who" fans will be saying a different type of goodbye on January 1 when series star David Tennant concludes his celebrated run on the long-running BBC science-fiction series. One of the most popular actors to ever play the iconic role, Tennant has been the face of "Doctor Who" since 2005 and led the series to its most successful run (both in the UK and abroad) in its 47-year history.

As MTV's resident "Doctor Who" geek, I sat down with Tennant for a chat about the looming end to his run as the time- and space-traveling adventurer known as The Doctor. Along with discussing what he'll miss most about the role, he also revealed the mementoes he's taking with him from his time as The Doctor — and when he might return for a cameo appearance like so many past Doctors.

"I was presented with a sonic screwdriver in a beautiful box that the prop department made for me," said Tennant of his going-away gift. "So I got to take that home and that will sit in a very proud place in my home." Read More...

"Doctor Who," the long-running BBC science-fiction series that follows a time- and space-traveling explorer known as The Doctor, concludes its current season this weekend with a two-part finale that kicks off Christmas Day, December 25. Not only does "The End of Time" finale conclude the latest season, but it will also see the departure actor David Tennant, who's played The Doctor for the last three seasons and seen the series' popularity explode to unprecedented levels here in the U.S., spawning spin-offs such as "Torchwood" and "The Sarah Jane Chronicles."

As MTV's resident "Doctor Who" geek, I jumped at the opportunity to chat with Tennant about the impending conclusion to his run as The Doctor — and what we can expect to see in the season finale.

"I can't give anything away, that would go against the grain, wouldn't it?" smiled Tennant, who went on to tease some of what we might see when "The End of Time" kicks off. Read More...

Cameron DiazThe movies team working on location at San Diego Comic-Con this year did a kickass job. They flat-out crushed it. In addition to all of the coverage we've been rolling out since last Wednesday, there are literally boxes of tape just waiting to be digitized and served direct to your waiting eyeballs.

Since the onslaught has really only just begun (seriously, you have no idea), I figure now might be a good time to remind you of a few delectable video nuggets that you may have missed. I hadn't even seen some of these until yesterday. SDCC is a big show and the amount of coverage we have from it is almost overwhelming. So peep these vids before the next giant load rolls through. Sadness over the impending end to David Tennant's "Doctor Who" run was softened recently by a rumor that the fan-favorite actor could be moving on to play the lead role in Guillermo del Toro's upcoming adaptation of "The Hobbit" -- a big step for the star of the long-running science-fiction series. However, now it looks like the casting buzz is exactly that: a rumor.

While early predictions of a "Hobbit" casting announcement during Comic-Con fell through, Tennant told MTV News that there was never much chance of it happening -- at least, not with him involved.

"The Internet is a curious place, isn't it?" Tennant told MTV News. Read More...

David TennantRumor alert! You've been warned; continue reading at your own risk. The rumblings around the Internets indicate that fans who have been patiently waiting for word from Guillermo del Toro on "The Hobbit" will get their wish next week at San Diego Comic-Con. We already learned from the director during a recent interview that he is "very close" to announcing his pint-sized lead. Next week would certainly fall into the bounds of "very close."

The Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog mentions that David Tennant, James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe are all rumored to be up for the role. To me, Radcliffe seems like a longshot at best. While I'm sure the legions of "Harry Potter" fans out there would like to see The Boy Who Lived wear the One Ring, my guess is that the still-young actor may want to break away from the fantasy mold once J.K. Rowling's series is complete. Then again, there are those many millions of basically assured "Hobbit" dollars to consider.... Read More...
