David Fincher is a busy, busy man. In comparison to his Hollywood contemporaries, it seems like the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" director is always working on a new project, whether it's live action or animated. "Dragon Tattoo" comes out today, and the prospect of directing two sequels should keep his scheduled tied up for now.

But when Fincher talked to MTV News, he was more than happy to dish on the progress of some other projects. You might not know, but he's in the process of developing a Disney-sponsored version of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," the famous Jules Verne novel. Though the book wasn't important for Fincher while growing up, he was fascinated by the concept.

"The idea of a post-Civil War version of science fiction and the notion of being able to breathe underwater was so radical in its thinking. That's pretty cool," he said. "If you're going to do big tent-pole teenage PG-13 summer movies, it's kind of cool that it would be this."

We're just under a week away from the premiere of David Fincher's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," one of the most anticipated movies of the holiday season. There has been so much talk about every aspect of the upcoming film, but none has received as much attention as Rooney Mara, the woman bringing the film's heroine to life.

This new TV spot focuses on Mara as Lisbeth Salander, the disturbed genius research assistant Daniel Craig's Mikael Blomkvist brings in to help find a killer inside an influential family in a remote part of Sweden.

Girl with the Dragon TattooSome actors mentally transform into their roles for a movie, but "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" star Rooney Mara had to do it physically.

The last time Mara appeared in a film (appropriately David Fincher's "The Social Network"), she had long, luscious brown hair and a very girl-next-door overall vibe. But no longer. Mara and Fincher open up to Entertainment Weekly in this week's issue and talk about how the prestigious director told his leading lady right up front that she was going to have to change a lot for the role.

"I told Rooney, 'You're going to be emaciated, you have to be naked, you have to get raped [on screen], get pierced, smoke cigarettes, ride a motorcycle,'" Fincher recalled saying. "'I need you to really concentrate and tell me this is something you want.'"

Spoiler alert: it was.

"The Hunger Games" teaser at the VMAs was more than just a passing glimpse at the upcoming film: it was a taste of things to come. Director Gary Ross caught up with Hollywood Crush over Skype and said that the movie, like the book, is going to be very much from the perspective of its main character, Katniss Everdeen.

"That's one of the fun things about it. There are times when you're viscerally inside [Jennifer Lawrence's] shoes, and that's the main experience," he said. "And there are other times when you're witnessing her the way they're witnessing her in the Game—and she's constantly being watched, which is one of the things that makes the book so compelling. But it's mainly an intense first-person experience, inside Katniss' shoes."

A lot of directors have been named in connection with the Angelina Jolie-starring "Cleopatra," from "Bourne" mastermind Paul Greengrass to "Avatar" visionary James Cameron. Neither of those guys ended up behind the camera, leaving the door open at the moment.

But perhaps the door is closing with the arrival of David Fincher, the Oscar-nominated director of "The Social Network" and the upcoming American adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." Fincher's name was first mentioned for "Cleopatra" in late March, and while his participation remains unconfirmed, Angelina herself told MTV News that she's definitely talked with the "Fight Club" filmmaker about the possibility of bringing ancient Egypt to life.

"It's all very early," she cautioned us, adding, "Fincher's been an old friend, so we've always been looking for something to do [together]."

Robert PattinsonSome of Hollywood's most popular young actors are about to become the stars of the latest anime-to-movie sensation.

Casting is far from finalized, however, so we'll have to wait and see how this one shakes out.

Kevin SpaceyNetflix has already revolutionized the way we rent movies (Not leaving the couch to stay on the couch even longer? Genius!) so it was only a matter of time before they figured out a way to alter the way we watch television, too.

According to Deadline, Netflix managed to outbid cable giants HBO and AMC for Media Rights Capital's "House of Cards," an upcoming drama series directed by David Fincher, who will also co-executive produce the show with Kevin Spacey.

Netflix reportedly struck a massive deal that includes two full seasons -- 26 episodes total -- right from the get-go. That's twenty more than AMC was given to launch the amazingly gory Golden-Globe nominated zombie drama "The Walking Dead." In other words, it's quite the gamble.

Christian Bale

The 68th Annual Golden Globes are a wrap, folks!

And in case you missed our awesome LIVE BLOG coverage (nice job, Katie!), here's what went down. Ricky Gervais rocked the hosting duties. No surprise there. Robert Downey Jr. said he'd "like to give it" to all five nominees for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, and we're pretty sure he wasn't talking about the award.

Similarly unsurprising: Colin Firth won Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama, Natalie Portman cinched Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for "Black Swan," Matt Damon presented Robert De Niro with the Cecil B. DeMille Award (yeah, that was announced beforehand), Christian Bale and Melissa Leo scored victories for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress for their turns in "The Fighter," "Toy Story 3" prevailed in the Best Animated Motion Picture category, and Aaron Sorkin and "The Social Network" claimed gold for Best Screenplay and Best Motion Picture - Drama. Rooney Mara vs. Noomi Rapace

The first official images of Rooney Mara as "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" heroine Lisbeth Salander hit the Web yesterday, courtesy of W magazine, and right now they're one of the hottest things the Internet has to offer. Millions of fans have turned to Google to find the images, propelling Mara's name onto the list of Google Hot Trends (quite a coveted honor). It's not hard to see why.

Sporting a jagged black hairdo, lip piercing, "Salander" tattoo across her exposed chest and a whole lot of blood on her hands, Mara looks every bit like the intelligent, emotionally damaged, badass Lisbeth I envisioned while reading Stieg Larsson's "Millennium" trilogy. She's even got that "I don't give a s---" look on her face and, more importantly, in her eyes. And so I'm quite excited to see if Mara does justice to the role when David Fincher's American adaptation of the book hits theaters next December. Read More...
