Fifteen years after working together on "Se7en," director David Fincher and screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker are reuniting for a new adaptation of Max Ehrlich's novel "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The book was previously made into a 1975 movie by Ehrlich, who adapted his own work, and J. Lee Thompson, best known for helming the original "Cape Fear."

As with many films dealing with reincarnation, the plot is pretty ridiculous even if you believe in the concept. A college professor has nightmares involving a murder, which he eventually realizes was his own, from a previous life. And in the process of discovery, he unknowingly becomes romantically involved with his (past incarnation's) daughter. Read more...

First there was a rumor -- ironically, spawned on Facebook -- that Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield had joined the cast of the Aaron Sorkin-penned, David Fincher-directed "The Social Network." They were to play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Internet entrepreneur Sean Parker and FB co-founder Eduardo Saverin, respectively.

Then, MTV's Eric Ditzian spoke with Eisenberg at the "Zombieland" junket and got a pretty clear non-denial denial from the young actor.

See how he casts his eyes around? It's sort of like he's trying to hide something, isn't it? Well apparently, he was! Read more...

Who will ultimately step into the flip-flops of billionaire Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg for "The Social Network," the David Fincher-directed, Aaron Sorkin-scripted biopic about the company's founding? There've been a number of names floating around the Web – most prominently "Adventureland" star Jesse Eisenberg – but as late as July, when I spoke with "Network" producer Kevin Spacey, no actor had so much as read for the role (or so the Oscar-winner assured me).

On Wednesday, while Eisenberg was promoting his action-comedy "Zombieland," I asked the 25-year-old actor if there was any truth to the rumors.

"They are rumors," he replied. "That is true." Read more...

-- Ian McKellen told attendees at an all-night "Lord of the Rings" screening that an actor has been selected to play Bilbo in "The Hobbit." There are no further details than that, though McKellen also mentioned that he'll be getting the script "within the next week." This falls very deeply into the rumor territory for now, though I have little doubt that a script exists or that there's a Bilbo short list. Especially since "Hobbit" director Guillermo del Toro told us as much in an interview. (TheOneRing.net)

-- The word is the "Fight Club" and "Zodiac" director David Fincher is all set to direct the Aaron Sorkin-penned "The Social Network," also known as "the Facebook movie" in some circles. As you might expect, the story follows the rise of the beast that we call Facebook and its founder, Mark Zuckerberg. Sorkin and Fincher make for odd bedfellows; I'll definitely see this one. David FincherThe curious case of David Fincher's directing decisions just got a little bit curiouser. Fincher has already broken ground with gritty thrillers like "Se7en" and "Fight Club," while also proving his weight in epic dramatic fare with "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Now the filmmaker is going to tackle an all-new arena -- the social networking scene.

According to Variety, Fincher is in advanced talks with Columbia Pictures to direct "The Social Network," an Aaron Sorkin-penned film that focuses on the formation of Facebook. Read more...

'Spider-Man'FROM SPLASH PAGE: David Fincher might have been interested in filming the story of a serial killer in “Zodiac” or the macabre crime tale from Brian Michael Bendis’ graphic novel “Torso.” Ask him to do a superhero movie, however, and you may get an unenthusiastic wince.

“No, I'm not interested in doing a superhero,” the “Fight Club” director recently told The Guardian. Taking a round of audience questions during a discussion about his recent work on “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Fincher provided further explanation of his position on Spider-Man.

“I was asked if I might be interested in the first ‘Spider-Man,’ and I went in and told them what I might be interested in doing, and they hated it,” he said.

David FincherI've pretty much been chasing another interview with David Fincher since the moment my last conversation with him ended nearly a year ago. Sure, his suffer no fools rep strikes fear in anyone in my line of work but the truth is I found Fincher to be a charming and thoughtful subject on the first go round. Now with "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" set for release I got Fincher to sit down for another 30 minutes (not quite enough time to get into "Alien 3" alas....).

You can check out the bulk to the Fincher interview here (including a whole batch of exclusive photos) where he reveals more about his plans for a "Fight Club" musical than ever before. The director likens the stage version to "a rock show — a lot of projection, a lot of computer-generated imagery, a lot of conveyor belts...really cinematic but really twisted." A twisted David Fincher work?!? You don't say...

Be sure to check out our reports on what Fincher told me about his Keanu Reeves "Chef" project, the long gestating "Heavy Metal" flick, and his plans for his adaptation of "Torso," aka what you never knew about Elliot Ness.

Keanu ReevesDavid Fincher may be best known for dark, gritty films such as "Se7en," "Fight Club," and "Zodiac," but the acclaimed auteur has actually been angling to direct a movie set in the culinary world for many years now, and may soon get a chance to bring his interest in cuisine to the big screen. Fincher, who was recently nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Director for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and is the subject of some rather intense Oscar buzz, is currently developing a film called "Chef," with Keanu Reeves set for a starring role. And now he's talking about the mysterious project for the first time to MTV News.

Though Fincher was once attached to a script for a film called "Seared," which was based upon superstar chef Anthony Bourdain's best-selling memoir "Kitchen Confidential," "Chef" is something new entirely. "'Seared' was a defunct property at New Line," the director told MTV News. "They decided to go ahead and make 'Kitchen Confidential' as a [television] series. This is an original script that's very funny."

So what can we expect from "Chef"? Read more...

'Heavy Metal'FROM SPLASH PAGE: We're extremely excited about the announcement that David Fincher, Zack Snyder and Gore Verbinski still intend to direct segments of a new "Heavy Metal" animated feature, but it's probably for the best that we temper our enthusiasm with a bit of caution. According to Fincher, the undoubtedly awesome film has yet to move on from the development stage.

"We're still trying to get that made," Fincher told MTV News.

Even so, does the director, hot off the critical success of his new film "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", have any particular "Heavy Metal" stories that he would like to adapt to the screen?

'Torso'FROM SPLASH PAGE: Big news could be on the horizon for David Fincher's long-awaited adaptation of "Torso," Brian Bendis and Marc Andreyko's award-winning comic book series based on the true story of Cleveland's "Torso Murderer" and the investigation by "Untouchables" leader Eliot Ness -- but it might not be good news.

According to EW.com, Paramount's rights to the much-anticipated project are set to expire on December 15, leaving precious little time to bring the film out of production limbo, where it has idled for several years now despite the presence of Fincher and rumored attachment of high-profile actors Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Rachel McAdams. The studio recently reported that it received a final script from "The Ring" screenwriter Ehren Kruger and would make a decision before the rights to the film expired.
