Machete

If you loved Robert Rodriguez's 2010 action campfest, "Machete," you're in luck: Deadline reports that he's signed on for a sequel titled "Machete Kills," the second in a planned trilogy.

Star Danny Trejo is expected to return, as is most of the original cast. The first "Machete" made loads of money on a tiny budget -- with that type of financial payoff, what's the risk in returning to such a memorable world?

Matt BomerMatthew McConaughey and Matt Bomer are the latest two actors to join the stripper flick "Magic Mike."

In addition to those two Hollywood beefcakes, the movie also stars Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer. "Magic Mike" is the semi-true story of Channing's time spent as an exotic dancer in Florida. Hollywood Crush has the full scoop on the casting, including McConaughey playing a retired stripper who owns the salon the boys work at and Bomer being a working boy in the group. The flick is being slated for a 2012 release date.

Some days, all you really need is a picture of Gandalf the Grey chillaxing with sunglasses on.

Today is one such day. Coming Soon scored this awesome photo of Ian McKellen reprising his iconic role on the set of "The Hobbit," though the wizardry on display here is of a different variety than most of us are used to.

Check out the rest of today's movie news past the jump, including a director signing on for Saoirse Ronan's "The Host" and "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" getting up to some monkey business!

TerminatorArnold Schwarzenegger is "The Terminator." No, really.

According to Deadline, the former Governor, who is making his long-awaited return to the big screen, will revive the legendary franchise that kept his status as a bona fide action star intact throughout the '80s and '90s. While there's no writer yet attached to the project, "Fast Five" director Justin Lin could helm the next installment of the "Terminator" saga, which will -- say it with me -- bring Arnold "baaahk."

Check out the rest of Tuesday's biggest casting news from Hollywood, including additions to "The Hunger Games," as well as a plea from Kristen Bell to appear in the big screen adaptation.

Lady Gaga kisses Kermit the FrogLittle did we know that "The Muppets" movie had the ability to summon one of the most impressive comedic casts we've seen in a while. Jason Segel was already set to star in the flick, but now TheWrap has news that Jane Lynch is set to come on board along with "Communitys"'s Donald Glover and "Machetes"'s Danny Trejo.

Add that to the rumors that Lady Gaga would be getting a cameo with John Krasinski, Ed Helms and Eric Stonestreet as her entourage, and we're officially excited for this project.

Let's get one thing straight: machetes are awesome. So awesome, in fact, that the oversized jungle-cutting blade is getting the spotlight in its very own Danny Trejo-starring movie, "Machete," out in theaters nationwide today.

But "Machete" isn't the first time that machetes have had a prominent role in the world of film — far from it, in fact. After the jump, check out a list of some of our favorite machetes in modern cinema! Read More...

After decades of playing second fiddle to actors like George Clooney, Antonio Banderas and Will Ferrell, it's finally time for Danny Trejo to step into the spotlight with the lead role in "Machete," Robert Rodriguez's long anticipated followup to the successful "Grindhouse" mock-trailer of the same name. Although we're all undoubtedly excited for Trejo's performance in "Machete," why should the Mexican-American actor end his run of leading man roles there? There are several other genres to explore beyond the hyper-violent action arena, and Trejo would knock each and every one of them out of the park.

Don't believe us? Well, after the jump, we've listed a whole slew of pitches for genre-bending movies starring Danny Trejo — Hollywood, take notice! Read More...

Sometimes we post clips on MTV Movies Blog that really require some explanation. Other times, the clip itself is all the explanation you really need. We're in the latter scenario right now: Robert De Niro, Danny Trejo, Jeff Fahey and a very large gun in a clip from "Machete," directed by Robert Rodriguez. It's out in theaters on September 3, which really isn't soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

Lindsay Lohan has certainly seen better days, currently making headlines for her legal woes that have led her to a three month prison sentence. But despite what you may be reading about her these days, Lohan's reputation isn't soured in everybody's book — certainly not amongst the "Machete" cast and crew.

"She was awesome," co-director Robert Rodriguez told MTV News of Lohan's behavior on the "Machete" set. "She was really fun to work with, and we just recorded her dialogue a few days back." Read More...

The personal highlight for me during yesterday's MTV/MySpace-sponsored livestream came at the tail end, when Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo popped in to pimp "Machete." What I have here is a photo from their time in the studio, a particularly well-captured photo of star Trejo. Stay tuned for more throughout the day, and keep your browsers locked to MTV Movies Blog to make sure you don't miss our second San Diego Comic-Con livestream, today at 3pm ET.
