Late last evening, President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Laden has been killed by United States forces in an operation conducted in Pakistan. The news set Twitter ablaze immediately, with countless Hollywood icons and celebrities weighing in with their thoughts on the 9/11 architect's death.
Responses from actors, writers and filmmakers alike differed dramatically in terms of how to react to the news. Some comedians, including Dane Cook, approached the announcement with as much comedy as the situation could possibly afford.
Beleaguered "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof even endured yet another insult towards his show's conclusion, this time with a smile. Most surprising of all, it may have been Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who first brought news of bin Laden's death to Twitter. And, yes, Charlie Sheen said "winning." You knew that was coming.
I'm @roundhoward and this is a special edition of Twitter-Wood for May 2, 2011.

Alien spaceships. Masked serial killers. Tormenting bullies, scumbag principals, spectacularly hot cheerleaders and all that other good stuff that comes with high school life. Compelling topics on their own, no doubt, but how do they work when combined together? Just tune into "Detention" and you're sure to find out.
Written and directed by Joseph Kahn, "Detention" tells the story of the senior class at Grizzly Lake high school. The road to graduation is never an easy one, but it's further complicated for these students by the arrival of a slasher movie killer who has seemingly come to life. The only ones who can stop the killer are a handful of students, but they'll have to cut out of detention if they're to stand a chance at saving the world.

Twitter-Wood experienced a small Christmas miracle today as an outpouring of photography and song revealed that a double rainbow can still grab more attention than Lindsay Lohan in our feed. There were enough posts to fill a special-edition TW coffee-table book with images from those who saw it... and laments from those were out of town and missed it. But even that book wouldn't be able to capture "Twilight" actor Justin Chon's musical celebration of this natural spectacle.
Other highlights of the last 24 hours included Steve Martin's continuing jury duty adventure, as well as Kevin Smith's triumphant declaration that he's finished his sound mix for "Red State." You'll find those retweets and Christmas-related shock from Anna Kendrick after the jump.

World AIDS Day didn't escape Russell Brand's attention today, and although he didn't sign off of Twitter to show his support, he did offer some advice to his followers.
In other tweets, David Slade dismayed over the technical problems that plagued the Spider-Man musical in New York, though he didn't sound all that broken up over what the show's fate might mean for a Hulk musical down the road. Check out his perspective after the jump, where you'll also find David Spade's reactions to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Tom Felton's recent golf excursion and a height comparison between Autumn Reeser and Magic Johnson.

Leslie Nielsen's death prompted a full day's worth of reactions in Twitter-Wood today, both from fans respectful enough not to call him "Shirley" and those who thought he would prefer to be remembered by that name. Dane Cook dedicated a show to him, while Brian Posehn shared his favorite Nielsen anecdote, and Olivia Wilde just plain misses him.
The "Star Wars" community experienced a loss as well, though, with the passing of "Empire Strikes Back" director Irvin Kershner. John Hodgman, Brian Lynch and Kyle Newman all contributed perspectives on their accounts, and Nathan Fillion shared some Christmas tree ornaments that Kershner might have appreciated.

Some citizens of Twitter-Wood were able to score seats inside or at home during the MTV Video Music Awards last night. Dane Cook and Chris Pine found themselves on the wrong side of a locked door right before Eminem's performance, judging from a post on Cook's account.
Meanwhile, much of Hollywood has been focused on Toronto in recent days with the Toronto International Film Festival underway. James Gunn and Rachelle Lefevre both had important screenings going down according to their feeds. You can find out a bit more about them below along with the reason Jessica Simpson gave for sustaining rug burns yesterday and the memento Alison Brie took home from Fashion Week in New York.

Michael Ian Black may not work for the U.S. government, but if he did, he knows what he would want to name the next hurricane that shows up, and he thinks that Hurricane Earl is far too tame of a title. Marlon Wayans had disasters on his mind, too, and sent some sleepless Twitter love out to Pakistan and the miners trapped in Chile.
In photo tweets, horror ruled today. Eli Roth shared a "Last Exorcism" party picture, and Michael McKean offered up a make-up shot that's not for the faint of heart. Have a look down below where you'll see which "Eclipse" actor scored a ticket to the U.S. Open, what Dane Cook thinks about "Dancing with the Stars" and how Jon Favreau spends his lunch breaks.

Someone had to make the first Twitter-Wood comparison between "The Wire" and the Rod Blagojevich trial, and Seth Meyers was that man. He, along with Roger Ebert and Jeff Katz had reactions to the single guilty verdict in Chicago last night, and they all posted those thoughts on Twitter.
In other tweets, "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" has received a lot of love from critics, despite its poor box office performance. Bret Easton Ellis decided to part ways with the pack, however, and declared his dissatisfaction with the movie. Find out how he felt below along with a weird exchange about Target between Michael Ian Black and Dane Cook and insights into Dr. Laura quitting her radio show.

He was almost "Spider-Man," but now he's stuck in "Detention." Cook will also produce, with "Torque" helmer Joseph Kahn directing. Kahn is perhaps better known for his music video work, having directed both Britney Spears' "Toxic" and Eminem's "Without Me." Variety reports that he also wrote the script, with Mark Palermo.
The story follows a group of teens who are in their last year of high school. As they struggle to get through the final days of class, exams, book reports and papers, they must also contend with "a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life." There are no details for Cook's character -- perhaps the killer? -- but Hutcherson will presumably play one of the luckless teens. Since he's starring, he'll probably end up luckier than the rest of them though.

Justin Bieber shout-outs show up on Twitter more frequently than the Fail Whale, but Marlon Wayans singing the pop star's praises was something a bit out of the ordinary. Apparently the actor's daughter is quite a fan. And speaking of fans willing to do crazy things (you'll understand when you read the tweet), this is Comic-Con week in San Diego. That means the great Twitter-Wood migration is underway to the entertainment industry's epic annual nerd gathering.
You can find out who's en route, as well as why Denise Richards thinks she looks like a porn star, who Helena Mattsson has been hanging out with and what an "Eclipse" actor thought of "Inception."
