Scream 4As we told you yesterday, "Scream 4" director Wes Craven is serving as the guest editor of MTV Movies Blog all week long, sharing insight into what went into creating the latest "Scream" movie and his feelings on how the horror genre as a whole has progressed over the years. In other words, if you like scary movies, this is the place to be.

Today, we're diving into one of the most essential ingredients for any movie, "Scream" or otherwise — the cast. While the first three outings of Craven's genre-defying slasher series relied quite heavily on three central figures — Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Officer Dewey Riley (David Arquette) — this latest round needed some new blood to spill as well.

To that end, Craven and his team recruited an eclectic mix of young up-and-comers like Emma Roberts and Nico Tortorella, as well as some familiar faces like Adam Brody and Anthony Anderson.

Bootlegs... we don't need no stinkin' bootlegs. One day after a grainy version of the "Scream 4" teaser trailer (shot with a mobile phone at Saturday's taping of Spike's 2010 Scream Awards, where the trailer debuted) hit the Interwebs, a pristine official version has emerged for the world's viewing pleasure. In addition to being astronomically easier on the eyes, the new video offers additional footage not seen in the leaked clip and showcases beloved "Scream" regulars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Ghostface, as well as an eager crop of franchise newbies such as Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin.

Seeing as it's been 10 years since a new "Scream" film graced the silver screen, Culkin's character is kind enough to tell fans how the rules of horror flicks have changed in the interim. For starters, "the kill has to be, like, way more extreme" (cue screaming woman plummeting to her demise atop a news truck). Also, virgins aren't safe (cut to Ghostface chasing scantily clad virgin around her bedroom). And, as the bootleg "Scream 4" trailer proves, everything these days is caught on tape, so the killer should be filming his handiwork (see Courteney Cox discover a camcorder just prior to a run-in with Mr. Ghostface). Things aren't going so peachy for Courteney Cox and David Arquette in real life, and it looks like the same holds true for their "Scream" alter-egos Gale and Dewey.

E! Online has debuted the first photo from the "Scream 4," and it shows the trio of Cox, Arquette and Neve Campbell, a.k.a. "Scream" queen Sidney Prescott, reunited for the first installment in the franchise since 2000. We're not sure what's got them looking spooked, but safe money is that it has something to do with a certain Ghostface Killer.

The photo hits the Web just a few days before Arquette and Campbell are set to introduce brand-new "Scream 4" footage at Spike's 2010 Scream Awards, which will tape on Saturday and air Tuesday night. Read More...

There has been no dearth of "Scream 4" casting news these past few months, with a steady stream of young stars -- Emma Roberts, Adam Brody, Hayden Panettiere, Nico Tortorella, Erik Knudsen, Marley Shelton and Rory Culkin -- lining up alongside series regulars Courteney Cox and David Arquette to fight for their lives (in most cases futilely) in the face of a new spate of Ghostface killings.

In a recent chat with MTV News to discuss his 3-D supernatural thriller "My Soul to Take" (in theaters today), "Scream 4" director Wes Craven gave us a rundown of the fourth installment's plot and revealed whether those new "Scream" trilogy rumors are true.

"The studio wants to be very, very secretive about it," Craven admitted. "I think it's kind of known that Neve is returning to her hometown for a short visit, and all hell breaks loose. But there's also a whole cast of new characters -- there's some very, very interesting kids." Read More...

If you caught yesterday's Twitter-Wood, you know that Wes Craven proudly proclaimed "a wrap on 'Scream 4.'" Well, the first glimpses of action on the set have now emerged in an "Entertainment Tonight" set visit confirming that Ghostface will return, Neve Campbell will walk on a roof and Courteney Cox's character will be as frantic as ever in the upcoming sequel.

As for who lives and who dies in the first scene, that stuff's still top secret, and terrible things will happen to the actors if you force them to talk, evidently.

"We're sworn to secrecy," David Arquette told "ET." "We've actually had to sign our own lives away."

Scream 4 CastingWith the “Scream 4” production's July start date fast approaching, Wes Craven is getting down to business and trying to nab some hot young stars so the “Scream” alum can hand off the franchise to a new generation. As we reported earlier, Lake Bell is currently in negotiations to join the cast and Ashley Greene, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin have all been offered key parts.

With Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox set to reprise their roles from the original three films, these new characters clearly must have a connection to one, if not all, of our old friends from Woodsboro. If the deals go through, the most direct of the bunch will be Greene’s character, Jill. Not only is she Sidney Prescott’s cousin, but she’ll also be assuming the role of the film’s leading lady. Panettiere’s role is Jill’s best friend, a major movie geek, and Culkin would play Jill’s love interest. The closest to sealing the deal is Bell, who will play a police officer Sidney knows from her high school days. Read More...

In the twilight months of 2009, "Scream 4" went from fan fantasy to in-development reality. Series creator Kevin Williamson almost lost his star, Neve Campbell. He later told us, in November, that the writing of the sequel "going good." Just a month later, Campbell said pretty much the same thing, revealing that shooting would get underway in April '10 and that she was "pretty sure" director Wes Craven would be back to direct.

There's never been any official confirmation in that regard. So tonight on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards, MTV's Josh Horowitz hit up happy couple and "Scream" stars David Arquette and Courteney Cox for the latest word on Craven and all things "Scream"...

"Yes, Wes [Craven] is in, Neve [Campbell] is in, everyone is in," Arquette said. The lovely Cox didn't sound as sure however. Read More...

But wait! There's more! Studio head Bob Weinstein issued the pronouncement: "I'm heading back to my franchise films," as reported by Variety. The plan on paper calls for a veritable blitzkrieg of sequels, many of them in 3-D.

The most stunning news relates to the much-talked-about "Scream 4." Series star Neve Campbell had previously stated that she wouldn't be back for more. According to Weinstein, Campbell will return, joining already-confirmed castmates David Arquette and Courteney Cox. What's more, director Wes Craven is in talks with Dimension to helm. Read More...

'Friends'Article by Stephanie Simon

With the outstanding commercial success of the "Sex and the City" movie, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood tried to dust off another New York City TV gang. According to a report in the British tabloid "The Daily Mail," a long-awaited (maybe) big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series "Friends" might be on the way.

The paper reports that all six cast members have agreed to reprise their roles, but did you worry that your favorite "Friends" would be booked solid (::cough:: Matt LeBlanc)? And after SATC raked in $300 mil earned at the box office, even the busiest of schedules have a way of loosening up. Read More...
