Remember the “Mamma Mia!” movie that came out last year? The one that starred Meryl Streep and was based on the stage musical, which itself was based on a whole bunch of ABBA songs from the '70s? Yeah, well that movie is now the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK box-office, having beaten James Cameron’s “Titanic.” Lemme state that again: “Mamma Mia!” is the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK box-office.
So, there’s gotta be a sequel, right? Read more...
On the Line: I attended an industry screening, but even the press were buzzing about the film. People seemed to be looking forward to "Easy Virtue," but with a cast that includes Jessica Biel, Ben Barnes, Colin Firth and Kristin Scott Thomas, how could you not?
In the Theater: Because it was a press screening and there are a number of them for this film, the screening wasn't packed. There was lots of buzz about who's seen what Tribeca Film Festival films so far, and what's coming up in the next few days. Apparently many writers have been spending endless hours in movie theaters for the past few days, which is bittersweet, considering the fantastic weather New York City has experienced the past few days. Orlando Bloom may have kept a lower profile after "Pirates of the Caribbean" than his costars, but he's making up for it this year. He's in the middle of filming Mark Ruffalo's "Sympathy for Delicious" which has him playing a hard rock singer, and he's playing a border guard in the sci-fi thriller "The Cross." Now he's looking to join the ensemble cast of "Main Street," adapted from one of Horton Foote's final screenplays.

Impeccable designer Tom Ford has already conquered fashion and photography -- and now he's set to make his directorial debut with one heck of a cast. According to Variety, Colin Firth, Matthew Goode, and Julianne Moore have all joined the cast of his indie drama, "A Single Man." Ford is also executive producing the film, under his Fade to Black shingle, and cowriting the script with David Scearce.
The film is based on Christopher Isherwood's 1964 novel. It's centered around George, a British college professor, who suddenly loses his partner, Jim, in a tragic accident. The book spans one single day of his life, and finds him coping with loneliness, intolerance, tasteless neighbors, stupid people, and the impending holiday season. Read more...
Reading the IMDB message boards for the Joel and Ethan Coen’s “Gambit,” a heist movie remake about two criminals out to steal a priceless antiquity, is just about the funniest thing imaginable, since every other poster is convinced the movie is about the “X-Men” character Remy LeBeau. It’s actually so egregiously wrong that it almost has to be parody right?
But how’s this for a laugh: An honest to goodness Marvel spin-off might actually one day make it to the big-screen before the Coen Brother’s film, given that, well, nobody’s actually MAKING “Gambit,” supposedly attached star Colin Firth revealed.
“No! It’s a complete lie. It’s been on IMDB and just sitting there,” Firth said of his rumored involvement. “The Coen brothers have written an absolutely brilliant script.”
