Once he's finished with "Red State" and "Hit Somebody," Kevin Smith intends to retire as a film director. But that doesn't mean his days as a storyteller are over. Having already oscillated between the film and comic book mediums at multiple points throughout his career, Smith says there's another place where his stories could exist: television.

"Someone asked me on Twitter about 'Clerks 3,' and I said I'd rather live 'Clerks 3' than make 'Clerks 3.' But when somebody asked me, 'What if you do have a Dante and Randal story to tell in your 40s and 50s?' I'll go to TV!" Smith told MTV News during our interview with him earlier this week. "At the end of the day, when I started in film, you couldn't do the things we were doing and saying [on television]. Now, you can."

Jay and Silent BobOh hey, did you hear? The Weinstein Company and Miramax came up with a totally genius idea to take a bunch of their best-loved and critically acclaimed movies and churn out unnecessary sequels (some that will likely go direct-to-DVD) or TV-spinoffs for them. First on the list are "Shakespeare in Love," "Rounders" and "Bad Santa," which will soon be followed by a third "Clerks," and third "Bridget Jones's Diary," and yet another "From Dusk Till Dawn," in addition to many, many other terrible ideas. I think I'm going to let "Clerks" creator Kevin Smith take it away from here for a little while.

"I sold the movie to [Miramax] in 1994," Smith wrote on his Twitter account. "But I guess if someone was going to exploit the library for sequels, remakes, TV, I'd rather it be the devil I know. Nice to know there's a home for 'Clerks III' if I ever wanted to make it, but hope it doesn't become a home for a 'Clerks'-anything if I'm not involved." Better hold your breath, Smith. Read More...

Kevin Smith so loves working with the same group of actors, he once joked that had he directed "Jaws," he'd "cast Ben Affleck as the shark." But according to the director, familiar faces won't be found in Smith's upcoming "Red State," a horror movie about religious fundamentalism.

"'Red State' I would like to do with completely unknown people. I think it would be tough to settle into a horror movie if you're like, 'Hey! That's the Snootchie-Bootchies guy,'" Smith deadpanned.

So no Jason Mewes, no Jason Lee, and no Jeff Anderson. But what about Bruce Willis, who Smith met while filming a cameo on "Live Free or Die Hard"? "Bruce Willis would never do one of my flicks," Smith laughed. "In a million years he wouldn't. Dude would be like, 'No way, I don't want to put the kibosh on my career, man. I hitch my wagon to your star, forget it, we're plummeting,' Justin Long though...maybe one day. If he's feeling charitable."

Originally slated to be his next project, "Red State" may wind up being pushed back so Smith can next film "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," (A page of which was recently posted by "Entertainment Weekly"). Read More...
