Saruman

In a video message to his fans, Christopher Lee sounds as he ever does.

"We are coming to the end of 2011," he intones in his trademark baritone. "I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, a happy Christmas, and the family's gathered together." Proceeding from there, he begins to talk about the state of the world, and how the state of things are in bad shape. It's heavy talk coming from the long-time actor, but with his 90th birthday approaching, it would be weirder if he didn't have thoughts of mortality on his mind.

Lee spends much of the video discussing "The Hobbit," the two-part prequel to "Lord of the Rings" that sees the actor returning to the role of Saruman the White.

The King's SpeechTo the surprise of few, "The King's Speech" came out of Sunday night's BAFTA awards show with seven of its 16 eligible awards in hand, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Original Screenplay, Leading Actor, Supporting Actor and Actress and Original Music.

These big wins certainly shorten the gap between "The King's Speech" and "The Social Network" for the Best Picture race as we head toward the Oscars. Though "The Social Network" originally struck many as the favorite -- and it did land a few big awards at the BAFTAs, including Best Director, Adapted Screenplay and Editing -- "The King's Speech" has picked up speed in recent weeks, with the string of BAFTA wins only furthering its momentum.

For those of you still upset about the slights at "Inception" for Oscar nominations you'll be happy to know that Tom Hardy was awarded the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award. It's an obvious recognition of the talent he displayed in "Inception" last year, and the film was also awarded for Production Design, Sound and Special Visual Effects.

Christopher LeeIt's as easy to spend a day surfing through IMDb as it is to waste hours of time on Wikipedia or Facebook, and when it comes to actors I love returning to on the website, Christopher Lee tops the list.

These days, the 88-year-old Brit is best known for his roles of Saruman in "The Lord of the Rings" and Count Dooku in the "Star Wars" prequels, but it was only 50 years ago that he was the king of horror films. But why I really love returning to his page is because the list of his film goes on and on and on.

In total, Lee has appeared in 268 films since his first role in 1948. With so many movies under his belt, my question for the BAFTA committee is not why they chose to honor Lee with the prestigious Academy Fellowship award at the awards ceremony this Sunday (February 13), but really, what took them so long? I outline the reasons why I think he deserved this role a long, long time ago after the jump.

DraculaFinally, a new Dracula film for vampire fans to sink their teeth into. With sexy, angsty teen vampires infiltrating our pop culture, it seems like it's been a while since there's been some hardcore stake and holy water style vamp films released.

Well, no longer. According to Deadline, Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way will produce an upcoming adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel called "Harker" for Warner Bros.

Unlike previous incarnations of the book, "Harker" will focus on Scotland Yard detective Jonathan Harker who is tracking Dracula. The script sets him up as a potential new franchise character. And no, before you ask, DiCaprio is not planning to star in the film.

Andy Serkis as GollumNo shocker here, but good news just the same: Deadline is reporting that at long last Andy Serkis has locked down a deal to reprise his "The Lord of the Rings" role as the bug-eyed, Precious-loving creature Gollum in Peter Jackson's forthcoming two-part "Hobbit" prequel.

Had Serkis not signed on, it would have totally burned us, Precious -- he was amazing in the role in the final two "Lord of the Rings" flicks. But despite the fact that the majority of "The Hobbit" cast has already been announced, there was really little doubt that Serkis would return for the small but pivotal role in (likely) the second of the two films. In addition to appearing in the aforementioned "LOTR" movies for the director, he also had a sizable part in Jackson's "King Kong" and one of the leads in Jackson's upcoming collaboration with Steven Spielberg, "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn."
