Considering "Grown Ups" was the highest-grossing film Adam Sandler has ever been a part of, it doesn't come as too much of a surprise to hear that he has been hard at work trying to bring the gang back together for a follow-up. The film starred a collection of Sandler's friends including Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider, and went on to resonate strongly with audiences.

News broke earlier this month that "Grown Ups 2" has allegedly carved out a July 12, 2013 release date with original writer Fred Wolf in negotiations to pen a screenplay. MTV News caught up with Rock while he was at Sundance promoting his film "2 Days in New York," and he confirmed that he definitely has heard from Sandler about making another movie together. He just doesn't know if it will be "Grown Ups 2," or something different.

Director Catherine Hardwicke will direct Noomi Rapace's as-yet-untitled biopic of '60s Swedish pop culture icon Anita Lindblom. To make things even more interesting, Rapace's real-life husband, Ola Rapace, will play boxing champion Bosse Hogberg who ends up marrying Lindblom.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Rapaces have been developing the flick for several years, and it's slated for a Scandinavian release in 2012.

In the news after the jump, "World War Z" loses its leads, a comedian joins Ben Stiller in "Neighborhood Watch," and Chris Rock teaches fathers "What To Expect When You're Expecting."

I'm really looking forward to checking out "Death at a Funeral" this weekend. Someone from Screen Gems e-mailed me towards the end of the year with a list of upcoming movies on the studio's slate. "Funeral" was among them. I immediately scanned past it to focus on more action-driven fare, like "Legion" and "Takers." A leopard can't change its spots and all that.

I later returned to "Funeral," a Neil Labute-directed remake of the 2007 UK film (directed by Frank Oz!), and watched the trailer. That was it. Massive ensemble cast that includes Tracy Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Martin Lawrence, Luke Wilson and Peter Dinklage. A trailer overflowing with funny moments. Chris Rock produced. I'm sold.

Rock has come quite a long way since his early bit roles in "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka." He's evolved as both a performer and a writer. Or has he? "CB4," which he wrote, produced and starred in, was sharp. And hilarious. As was Rock's writing work on "In Living Color." He's been sparing with his feature work behind the scenes since then, but BlackVoices revealed yesterday that Rock will be taking on his greatest challenge yet, scripting a remake of Akira Kurosawa's "High and Low" to be helmed by "Charlie Wilson's War" director Mike Nichols. In what sounds like a racially fueled sequel to "I Love You, Man," Chris Rock will play the titular new companion to GQ writer Devin Friedman in the film adaptation of Friedman's 2008 article, "Will You Be My Black Friend?" The magazine feature documented the writer's attempt to find an African-American friend via an ad on Craigslist.

The article was somewhat inspired by Barack Obama's presidential bid. As Friedman wrote in his original ad (reprinted in the magazine), "We could have a black president, and still not have a very mixed country." Referencing the sitting president too, he noted that he was uncomfortable having the same amount of black friends as George Bush. Read More...

Salma HayekAdam Sandler movies generally have big casts, but he's throwing caution to the wind on his latest project. Not only will it feature all the Happy Madison regulars (David Spade, Rob Schneider, Kevin James, and Chris Rock) together in one film for the first time, but he's snagged Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, and Colin Quinn just to keep things classy and sexy.

According to Variety, the untitled comedy centers on five best friends from high school who reunite after 30 years for a Fourth of July party. With these five guys, I think you can expect someone to be seriously injured by fireworks, and at least one of men to get naked (our money is on Schneider). Hayek and Rudolph will play the spouses of Sandler and Rock, respectively, while Quinn's role is unspecified. Read More...

When we chatted with Chris Rock at Sundance this week he was pretty pumped about George W. Bush's recent exit from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But truth be told besides talking politics, the actor/comedian had a documentary to promote. "Good Hair" premiered this week to strong reviews. Its positive reception had the former Oscars host likening it to, of all things, a U2 album?

The wave of emotion that emanated today from Washington D.C. even reached Park City, Utah. Yes, even with movies to sell all the actors and filmmakers MTV News spoke to today had one thing on the brain: President Obama. Well, actually Chris Rock was thinking more about former President George W. Bush. "George Bush is NOT president," he grinned and repeated and grinned again. A small part of that smile might also be attributed to his new documentary, "Good Hair" that just debuted here to positive attention.
