FletchIf you were a fan of Chevy Chase's 1985 comedy "Fletch," and couldn't help but have a soft spot in your heart for its 1989 sequel "Fletch Lives," then you are either going to love or hate this news.

Despite the rumor over the past decade that a "Fletch" prequel called "Fletch Won" is in the works, Deadline learned that Warner Bros. has instead acquired the rights to reboot the film and start a new franchise based on the Gregory McDonald series.

The first film follows a wisecracking investigative reporter named I. M. Fletcher who is trying to get to the bottom of a drug trade, but is distracted when a well-groomed man named Alan Stanwyk approaches him. Stanwyk tells him he has incurable cancer and offers Fletcher a lot of money to off him, not knowing he's an undercover reporter. Fletcher does some digging on Stanwyk and discovers his story is not as innocent as it seemed, and also manages to solve the drug trade mystery.

With Hollywood in reboot hysteria, "Fletch" just falls in line with "Arthur" and all the other '80s classics getting reboots. But this new version of "Fletch" won't survive without a good comedian at its helm to play the title character, so we've got some suggestions. Read more...

"Saturday Night Live" has a history of lampooning presidents that extends as far back as the sketch comedy show's beginnings. And just like any gathering of still-living real-life U.S. presidents causes a stir, so too does this new Funny Or Die video. Fred Armisen, as Barack Obama, worries over the stresses of leading the United States one evening before bed in the White House. So some of his pals show up with friendly advice: George W. Bush (Will Ferrell), Bill Clinton (Darrell Hammond), George Bush Sr. (Dana Carvey), Ronald Reagan (Jim Carrey), Jimmy Carter (Dan Aykroyd) and Gerald Ford (Chevy Chase). The whole thing was directed by Ron Howard.

One caveat: the video isn't actually all that funny. It's no doubt a thrill to see this crew assembled in one space, but it's too bad they forgot to bring the comedy along with them.

Underwhelming Super Bowl ad (and best-left-unmentioned direct-to-DVD spin-off starring Randy Quaid) aside, the "National Lampoon's Vacation" series remains one of modern comedy's classics. Whatever you may think of Chevy Chase these days -- still a fan over here, and always will be -- the "Saturday Night Live" veteran certainly left his mark with a number of early roles, including suburban Illinois resident Clark W. Griswold.

Well New Line is planning what Variety reports to be a "reboot" of the series, with the focus now on the younger male Griswold, Rusty, who has been played by five different actors over the years: Anthony Michael Hall ("Vacation"), Jason Lively ("European Vacation"), Johnny Galecki ("Christmas Vacation"), Ethan Embry ("Vegas Vacation") and, most recently, Travis Greer ("Hotel Hell Vacation" short film produced by HomeAway). The reboot, which really sounds like more of a down-the-road sequel, will be written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (yup, the kid from "Freaks and Geeks"). This confirms the news that popped up late last year about potential plans for a return to the series. Read more...

Friends... I've got mixed emotions about this news. On the one hand, the "Vacation" movies are comedy gold. So any chance to see Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo take up their roles as the Griswold family again has me pounding the walls in excitement. On the other hand, this latest reunion is for a HomeAway ad campaign which is set to launch during the Super Bowl on February 7, 2010. Sooooo... yeah, conflicted.

This isn't the first time that Chase and D'Angelo have stepped into their Griswold roles in recent memory. They made a brief cameo in "Family Guy: Blue Harvest," the animated series' loving parody of "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," complete in a flying version of the first "Vacation" movie's Wagon Queen Family Truckster (the big green station wagon thing). A replica of the Truckster will also appear as part of the HomeAway ad campaign, according to a report from US Weekly. But perhaps there's some hope to take away from all of this. Read more...

Wow. Just wow. What else is there to say about this photo, snapped at the after-party of Hilary Duff and Chevy Chase’s Tribeca Film Festival entry, “Stay Cool”? I can pretend it didn’t happen, that I never saw it. I can distract myself with fond memories of the insane comedic genius that is Chevy’s ‘80s filmography. But this photo is going to haunt my dreams, and now, well, it will haunt yours too...
