What's It Called: "Burlesque"

What It's About: A young girl from middle America heads to Los Angeles with dreams of hitting it big. She ends up working it in a neo-burlesque club owned by a former dancer.

Who's In It: CHRISTINA AGUILERA. Also, Cher, Cam Gigandet, Julianne Hough, Alan Cumming, Eric Dane, Peter Gallagher, Kristen Bell (pictured above) and Stanley Tucci.

Why You Should Care: Two words: "Showgirls 2." No, there's no tie between "Burlesque" and the Paul Verhoeven flick. But, as many who saw the debut trailer for "Burlesque" noted, there are definitely elements that carry between the two. And seriously... that's awesome. Also, there's a great cast to back up Aguilera's amazing voice. And here's the cherry on top: Steve Antin, making his feature debut as a director, is known well for his memorable role as the jocky jerk Troy in "The Goonies." Amazing.

When You Can See It: November 24 (not soon enough)

When Eminem decided that his status as a superstar musician gave him the credentials to become an actor, the result was “8 Mile,” an Oscar-nominated instant classic; Mariah Carey’s 2001 bomb “Glitter” might just be the worst movie ever made. Somewhere in between, we’ve had Britney’s “Crossroads,” Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard,” 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” and dozens of other boundary-defying debuts. Now, it’s time for Christina Aguilera to finally make the move – and one of her famous co-stars thinks Xtina has what it takes.

“I hear she’s wonderful,” explained Stanley Tucci, the accomplished veteran actor/writer/director of more than 80 movies and TV shows, who has been cast alongside Aguilera in “Burlesque,” also starring Cher, Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet. “I’ve been talking to some of the people at the studio, and everyone is thrilled with her.” Read More...

Johnny DeppFROM SPLASH PAGE: In last week’s poll, I asked readers to vote on the “Batman 3″ rumors they wished were true. From Cher playing Catwoman and Christopher Nolan exiting the franchise to Philip Seymour Hoffman playing The Penguin and Christian Bale taking his growl elsewhere, there’s been no shortage of rumors surrounding the next installment of the Batman film franchise. And no rumor has been without its share of fans, either.

When all the votes were tallied, however, the margin of votes between the most popular rumor and the next wish-it-was-true option was one of the largest in any of our polls thus far. And while the winner isn’t much of a surprise, the support for some of the other might raise a few eyebrows (and cause some heart palpitations) among the Batman faithful.

CherCall it a hunch, but I think "Burlesque" already has its place in film history set. Not only will it be the acting debut of Christina Aguilera, but the modern musical has signed on the music icon of all icons: the one and only Cher. Yeah. It's going to be flamboyant.

According to Variety, Aguilera will play an ambitious small-town girl fresh from the cornfields of Iowa. Possessing one heck of a voice (hey, it's Aguilera) she goes West to pursue her singing and dancing dreams. The aspiring star winds up in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard that’s run by Tess (Cher), a former dancer who struggles to keep the club open and gives the young girl a chance to become a star. CherOne of the craziest rumors to come out of "The Dark Knight" mania was that Cher was in the running to play Catwoman. Well, that didn't come true, but it looks like her next movie will have her playing the most deadly feline of all -- a cougar. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cher is paring up with that legendary Jackass Johnny Knoxville for "The Drop Out."

Written and directed by Ricky Blitt (who was also responsible for Knoxville's "The Ringer"), Knoxville will play a 35-year-old college student who is finally kicked out of his parents' house. Desperate for free rent, food, and television, he decides to get in good with the hot 65-year-old woman next door.

Can you guess who's playing that role? Read More...
