-- "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" star Channing Tatum has joined the cast of Roman epic "Eagle of the Ninth," along with Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland and "Sherlock Holmes" star Mark Strong. Tatum will star as Marcus Aquila, sent by Rome to Britain to figure out what happened to the missing Ninth Legion. (The Hollywood Reporter)
-- Even though Vin Diesel and director Rob Cohen were going to re-team for "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage," Cohen has since taken on other projects and the extreme sports super-spy simply can't fit into his schedule. Diesel will instead receive direction from "Invincible" helmer Ericson Core. (The Hollywood Reporter) Read more...
I don't know about y'all, but I love myself some toys. I have a bunch here, sitting on my desk. Including one of Cobra Commander from this week's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra." I'll be honest: I initially put him here because I was worried about the movie, and his menacing glare and upraised weapon was to serve as a constant reminder that I should be. But I saw the movie last weekend loved it. Now, the Commander has earned his rightful place among the rest of the kiddie crap scattered across my workspace.
Still, it must be weird for "Joe" stars Sienna Miller and Channing Tatum to hold molded plastic versions of themselves in their hands. It is weird, as we learn in the below clip. The stars, who play the Baroness and Duke, respectively, appeared on "Good Morning America" this week with plastic counterparts of themselves and their castmates. Enjoy.
I haven't really highlighted it here, but Mean Magazine and Microsoft have started producing a series of comedic digital shorts in which today's most popular actors remix classic movies. Previous entries have taken on "Tron" (with Cheech & Chong), "Sid & Nancy" (with Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and "Point Break" (with members of "Human Giant" and "Reno 911!").
A lot of discussion around "G.I. Joe" (out this Friday) focused on three areas: how cool Snake Eyes would be, how the "accelerator suits" would look and the bombastic destruction of the Eiffel Tower. Well, now we can help you out, as we have clips of all three of those scenes.
"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" is out next weekend! As an avid viewer of the classic cartoon series and hoarder of action figures/vehicles, I'm kinda sorta a little bit excited for this one. I'm actually seeing the movie this weekend to prepare for Sunday's press day with the cast. You can look for that coverage to appear on MTV.com next week in anticipation of the movie's release.
To get the hype train rolling a little early, we've got some video for you from the "Rise of Cobra" premiere yesterday in Tokyo. Check out that awesome signage; movie titles always look so much cooler in a different language. You'll also see stars Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller and Marlon Wayans stepping up to the red carpet mic to say howdy.
When the “G.I. Joe” live-action movie finally got a greenlight after more than a decade in development, fans of the series seemed to have two main concerns: That they’d mess up the look of the beloved characters, and that Marlon Wayans would be cracking too many jokes. And while I haven’t got much evidence to shoot down that first fear, I can tell you when we recently caught up with Marlon, he insisted that “The Rise of Cobra” kept his “Little Man” hijinks in check.
“The movie is serious, action and some comedy - but not all comedy,” insisted the star, who will bring an extremely different look to the High Altitude Low Opening jumper in the August 7th flick. “You pull off the reigns; I did what was appropriate for the role and for the character.” Read more...
FROM SPLASH PAGE: Though he's all over the map this summer with April's "Fighting," July's "Public Enemies" and August's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," actor Channing Tatum's biggest regret is missing the chance to play Cajun card player Gambit in May's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
Tatum, a self-professed comic book fan, holds the trench-coated mutant near and dear to his heart. According to Tatum, Gambit has always been his number-one superhero and one to which he feels a personal connection.
"Man, I was dying to play [Gambit]," Tatum told MTV News. "My dad's from Louisiana and I think I've always just gravitated towards Gambit in general. He's just cooler than anything to me."
After last year’s “Stop Loss”, three of Tatum’s next major roles feature him in various iterations of the US Military, including “Dear John”, “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” and “Pinkville”. Could Tatum’s public perception as the homegrown American soldier extend to the Marvel Universe in Joe Johnston’s “The First Avenger: Captain America”?
“I would love to talk about it,” Tatum told MTV News, admitting that a few people have told him to go after the role, though nothing solid has happened on that front.
Though he stars as Duke in this summer’s “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”, Channing Tatum chatted with MTV News about how which other “Joe” role was his first choice and what it’s like working on such a major blockbuster.
“I wanted to play Snake Eyes,” laughed Tatum, who was promoting his upcoming film “Fighting.” “I wanted so badly to play Snake Eyes.”
That’s the role that, ultimately, went to Ray Park, but Tatum says that Snake Eyes remains the coolest of the Joes simply because he never says word, a demand that the film’s creative consultant (and writer of the 80’s Marvel “Joe” comics) Larry Hama demanded resolutely. Read more...
Channing Tatum is seemingly everywhere these days, with his high-profile starring turn in "G.I. Joe" coming up this summer. But before then he'll be taking it to the streets in "Fighting." In the film, Channing plays a young criminal who becomes immersed in the bare knuckle world of underground fighting.
Co-starring Terrence Howard, Luis Guzmán and Brian J. White, "Fighting" hits theaters on April 24. Check out an exclusive clip below, and read more about "Fighting" here.
