I'm just going to say up front how deeply disappointed I am that SyFy won't be airing the second half of "Caprica"'s first season until January 2011. Not cool. Fans of "Battlestar Galactica" are certainly used to such long mid-season breaks, but that doesn't make them any more welcome.

That said, there's a new trailer online for season 1.5 and it's quite good. Lots of action, seemingly more than we saw in the first half of the season. Not that either is necessarily bad, but it's good to know that there's going to be forward development on the Graystone/Cylon front. That is, after all, a key component in what ties this show to Ron Moore and David Eick's excellent "Battlestar" series. Now... get used to the long wait and settle in with this thoroughly enjoyable trailer.

For "Lost" fans, today is the day. The last time to gather 'round the water cooler and discuss the previous night's episode and the story's deeper implications. While the dialogue surrounding the latter will surely continue for some time, last night marked the final episode of "Lost." There will be no more.

Whatever you think of the show's quality, there's no denying that it was a powerful work of television, something that for whatever reason lodged itself in the public's consciousness. It was more than just a story-- it was a sensation. Now that it's over, you might be tempted to just turn the TV off and go outside.

Don't do it. There's still good television to be had. A lot of it is off the air now, or soon will be, as we ease into summer schedules. But that's fine. Anything that's already running, you're going to want to catch up on what you've not seen before diving in with any new episodes. Read More...

Title: "End of Line"

Writer: Michael Taylor

Director: Roxann Dawson

Story: "End of Line" is the final episode of "Caprica" until the fall and, as you might expect, the half season ends explosively. Joseph Adama continues to search New Cap City for Tamara with help from his mysterious guide. Meanwhile, Daniel Graystone frantically tries to reproduce the sole working Cylon he has -- the one housing Zoe's avatar -- as his government contract deadline looms. Meanwhile, Amanda grows increasingly suspicious of the origin of that Cylon's MCP chip. Between that and her crumbling sanity, something's got to give. Finally there's Lacy, sweet, innocent Lacy, who's gotten in over her head in turning to the STO for help in transporting Zoe-Bot to Geminon. Read More...

Title: "Ghosts in the Machine"

Director: Wayne Rose

Story: Like last week's episode, we're back to hunting ghosts in "Caprica." Joseph Adama continues to search V-World's New Cap City for his daughter Tamara's avatar with the help of his mysterious guide. The path takes him to some pretty dark places, ultimately leaving him to question the importance of his search in the first place. Meanwhile, Daniel Graystone attempts to push his U-87 Cylon past its limits in the hopes that Zoe-Bot will reveal herself. The ghost in Amanda's "machine" appears to all be in her heard, as she can't shake those pesky visions of her long-dead brother. Read More...

Earlier this week, I had the privilege of speaking with "Caprica" creators Ron Moore and David Eick at Syfy's upfront party in New York City. It was a rare opportunity to get an inside glimpse into the minds of the guys responsible for making the word "Cylon" relevant to the science fiction-loving world once again, with their completed Syfy series "Battlestar Galactica."

"Caprica" is a prequel spin-off of the series, focused on the families of Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz), creator of the Cylons, and Joseph Adama (Esai Morales), father of "BSG" favorite William Adama (Edward James Olmos). The eighth episode of the first season, "Ghosts in the Machine," airs this evening. I'll get you a recap first thing in the morning. For now though, let's hear from Moore and Eick on what fans can expect moving forward. Read More...

Title: "The Imperfections of Memory"

Writer: Matthew V. Roberts

Director: Wayne Rose

Story: This week's "Caprica" is almost entirely focused on seeking out the dead. Joseph Adama, now aware that his daughter Tamara is "alive" (in a manner of speaking) in the V-World game of New Cap City, straps on a Holoband and sets out to find her. Meanwhile, Amanda Graystone begins seeing a ghost from her past-- literally. As we soon learn, this is a place she's been before. And Daniel, so intent on maintaining his company's survival, has missed the obvious truth that's been staring him in the face all these weeks: the avatar of his daughter Zoe, the one that lives inside Daniel's sole, working Cylon, has been there all this time. As this week's story closes, Daniel's eyes open to the possibility for the first time thanks to some help he receives from an unlikely source. Read More...

Title: "Know Thy Enemy"

Director: Michael Nankin

Story: Two new players join the fray in the latest episode of "Caprica." The more narrowed focus seen last week remains, with "Know Thy Enemy" primarily focused on two key developing stories. One is Daniel Graystone's feud with newcomer Tomas Vergis (John Pyper-Ferguson), owner of Graystone competitor, the Vergis Corporation, who is intent on taking vengeance for the murder of two of his people. We also return to the one God worshipping STO terror group. Sister Clarice Willow hatches a plan to recover Zoe's programming data from the Graystone household while Lacy meets with the mysterious Barnabus (James Marsters) in her continuing effort to transport the ZoeCylon to Geminon, at her dead friend's request. Meanwhile, Joseph Adama continues his search for the boy who brought word of Tamara in New Cap City while Daniel's assistant Phil Omon continues his weird courtship with the Cylon. Read More...

Title: "There Is Another Sky"

Writer: Michael Angeli

Director: Michael Nankin

Story: With the most critical stage-setting seemingly out of the way, "Caprica" returns this week with something the previous four episodes had been lacking: focus. There's Daniel Graystone, who is in some hot water with his company after his public promise to demonetize holoband technology leads the board of directors to revolt. That is until he introduces a remarkable new direction to take the business in. Meanwhile, Joseph Adama attempts to reconnect with Willy after learning some troubling things about his son. The senior Adama eventually comes to realize that letting go will be his most difficult, yet most important, first step. And finally, we spend quite a bit of time in V-World with Tamara Adama (still Adams). It's the most we've seen of the Internet-like virtual environment since the pilot episode, and much more is learned about the way things work there. Meanwhile, sideline players in these narratives are left where they belong-- on the sidelines. No Lacy, no Sister Clarice, no Agent Duram, minimal Amanda... just the facts, man. Read More...

If you haven't been keeping up with "Caprica," then you've been missing out. Syfy's "Battlestar Galactica" spin-off prequel series created by Ron Moore and David Eick hasn't quite hit the heights of its predecessor just yet, but it's smart, entertaining television nonetheless.

One of the more familiar faces on the show is Patton Oswalt, who plays popular Caprican talk show host Baxter Sarno. We saw his most extensive contribution to the series yet last week when Daniel and Amanda Graystone appeared on his show in an effort to clear the air after their deceased daughter was implicated in the terrorist bombing of a commuter train. MTV's Rick Marshall caught up to Oswalt earlier this week and he took the opportunity to ask about what's coming up for the talk show host. Read More...

Title: "Gravedancing"

Story: "Caprica" returns after a one-week hiatus with the highly anticipated Daniel Graystone appearance on Baxter Sarno's popular talk show. Ever since Daniel's wife Amanda raised the specter of their dead daughter's possible involvement in the MAGLEV train bombing, the family has had to contend with the public outcry against Zoe and the Graystone-created Holoband technology, which Sarno believes is a corruptive influence on the Twelve Colonies' society. Meanwhile, Joseph Adama has second thoughts about his plot to balance out his own family tragedy by having Amanda killed while GDD Agent Duram finally secures the search warrants necessary to search Zoe Graystone's home and school. There's also some further development with Lacy's promise to get to Geminon and Zoe-bot's blossoming friendship with the lonely Cylon tech. Read More...
