Over the years, we’ve seen our share of good American remakes of foreign films (“The Ring,” “Insomnia”) as well as some not-so-good ones (“The Eye,” “Dark Water,” “The Lake House”) that left a bad taste in our mouths. Recently, Cam Gigandet wrapped up his work on another high-profile translation to our shores, this time of “The Experiment,” and he promised us it will fall into that earlier category.
“I just finished a movie in Iowa called ‘The Experiment’ with Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker,” the “Twilight” star said of the remake, which also stars Maggie Grace and Clifton Collins Jr. “We shot that in Iowa, in Des Moines, and that was a blast.” Read more...
The biggest challenge faced by "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet while shooting last week's sci-fi/horror flick "Pandorum" in Germany was tracking down crackers. Saltines, to be precise. That's what his three months pregnant wife was craving, you see.
Luckily for Gigandet, we live in an age of useful iPhone Apps. The star cited one which uses pictures to help break the language barrier, not that it actually helped. There are apparently no Saltines to be found in Germany, at least not in the places Gigandet looked. Read more...
As if last week's mixed-genre Friday openings weren't enough, we've got the same song this week as well. I'm thinking that the front-runner is "Fame." Not only does it possess an all-ages appeal, but there's also the nostalgia factor to consider. The 1980 original was quite popular, so even childless thirty-somethings can find something to enjoy with this remake. Maybe.
It's not like there aren't other options. Michael Moore is back with another message-driven doc, "Capitalism: A Love Story." This one's about the sorry state of financial affairs that our nation is currently in, with the focus on what went wrong and how we got to where we currently are. Moore is nothing if not a crowd-pleaser, so expect to find his same brand of wry, scathing humor mixed with shocking facts about corporate and governmental wrongdoings. Read more...

Paul W.S. Anderson was finishing up post-production on his franchise-melding sci-fi flick, “AVP: Alien vs. Predator,” when he sat down to read a script that very much reminded him of one of the progenitors of his film: Ridley Scott’s 1979 deep space horror classic, “Alien.”
The script was simply terrifying, Anderson told MTV News in a recent interview. It was based on an original idea as opposed to the sequel-itis Hollywood had fallen victim to, and it contained mind-bending sci-fi concepts. He decided he had to make the movie. Read more...
I caught the trailer for "Pandorum," produced by the folks behind the "Resident Evil" movie trilogy, a couple weeks ago and was immediately sold. For me, the imagery summons up fond memories of Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic "Alien" and Electronic Arts' hit 2008 space horror video game "Dead Space." The brief snippets in the trailer left me wanting for more and, needless to say, I'll be there opening day when the movie opens on September 18.
Of course, there will be more "Pandorum" love to be had long before the fall release. A select few scenes will premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on July 23 as part of a panel featuring stars Ben Foster, Cung Le and Antje Traue (FYI Twilighters: Cam Gigandet is also in the movie). Fellow star Dennis Quaid will unfortunately not be on-hand, though he'll have a few words to share with the gathered fans via a special taped greeting. I won't be at the 'Con myself, but you can be sure I'll be clicking over to MTV.com on July 23 for a look at those exclusive clips. Check out the trailer below and be afraid.
He played a villainous vampire in “Twilight” and has won Best Fight at the MTV Movie Awards two years running -- so, it’s safe to say we all know that Cam Gigandet is a really good bad boy. Currently, the in-demand star is hard at work on “Easy A,” a comedic spin on “The Scarlet Letter” that has him setting aside the vampire attire and instead cloaking himself in mortality and school clothes.
“The whole idea is that people [develop] their personas in high school,” Gigandet explained about the film, which stars Emma Stone as a modern-day Hester Prynne, the “Scarlet” outcast forced to wear a red “A” to mark her shame. “Whether that’s true or not, you never know until afterwards. I’m one of those characters who you think is one person, where he turns out to not be.” Read more...
Earlier this week, I joked about how every week seems to bring a new project for Leonardo DiCaprio. He has officially been beaten by "Twilight" veteran Cam Gigandet, who seems to snag a new project every single day. The latest finds him in Oscar-winning company, as Variety reports that Gigandet will join Adrien Brody, Elijah Wood and Forest Whitaker in "The Experiment."
"The Experiment" will be directed by Paul Scheuring ("Prison Break") from his own screenplay. It's a remake of the 2001 German film "Das Experiment," which centers on a group of ordinary men recruited to take part in a psychological research study. They're divided up and put into prison. Some land jobs as guards, others are locked up as prisoners, all with the intent of studying how they react to their assigned roles, and to positions of power and control. Read more...
FROM SPLASH PAGE: Last week, reports surfaced that “Twilight” star Cam Gigandet would be playing a vampire on screen again in a live-action adaptation of “Priest,” a popular manga series published by TokyoPop.
But hold the phone, “Twilight” fans, it appears that tales of his blood-sucking role have been greatly exaggerated. During a press event for his upcoming film “The Roommate,” the actor said there’s been a slight misunderstanding when it comes to his “Priest” character.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: We're certainly disappointed that "Twilight" trumped both "The Dark Knight" and "Iron Man" at the MTV Movies Awards, but even we can't deny the rabid fascination with the vampire romance franchise -- though it looks like a particular vampire favorite has found some interest in the comic book world himself.
Unfortunately, ladies, we're not talking about Robert Pattinson. After all, he has a good thing going on as Edward Cullen. Instead, "Twilight" villain Cam Gigandet will make the leap onto the paneled page with a starring role in "Priest" based on the TokyoPop comic book series, says The Hollywood Reporter -- and he's taking his blood-sucking sensibilities with him.

Earlier this year, Emma Stone decided to emulate Nathaniel Hawthorne's Hester Prynne (you know, "The Scarlet Letter") for an "Easy A." She was quickly joined by Amanda Bynes, but with the film set to begin shooting in a few days, she'll need additional people to help and shame her towards a bad reputation. Variety has the list of who those people will be: Cam Gigandet, Lisa Kudrow, Alyson Michalka, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Stanley Tucci, Penn Badgley, Malcolm McDowell and Daniel Bird.
The plot has changed a little since it was last in the trades. Initially, Stone was going to play a student who faked being promiscuous in order to gain attention. Now she's a student who is ostracized thanks to a false rumor of her behaving badly with the guys, and she decides to use the rumor mill to her advantage. She pits puritanical students and teachers against their liberal, free-lovin' counterparts. Hilarity and life lessons ensue. Read more...
