An "Evil Dead" remake is on the way, and you have screenwriter Diablo Cody to thank -- partially, at least.

MTV News caught up with Cody while she was promoting her new movie "Young Adult" and couldn't resist asking about her revisions on the latest drafts of Fede Alvarez's "Evil Dead" script, and she admitted that she didn't know how many details she could spill about the highly anticipated remake. She was willing to share how she contributed to the project, though.

"It was really important again to the filmmakers that it remain totally grounded in reality and timeless. They weren't trying to make some hip trendy horror movie full of pop culture references. I really hope people don't think that that's what I was hired to do," Cody said. "I came in and worked on characters and relationships, things like that."

Bruce Campbell"Oz: The Great And Powerful" just got a heck of a lot more exciting now that Bruce Campbell has announced he's been cast in it.

"I. Am. In. Oz. Sam Raimi refuses to tell me what character I will portray. Just know that the role is PIVOTAL," the "Burn Notice" actor tweeted. Considering James Franco has already been cast as the titular wizard-to-be and Campbell likely isn't playing one of the female witches, our guess is he plays some sort of mentor to Oz. Or we could be totally surprised and he'll end up playing a Munchkin or flying monkey. Regardless, we're thrilled by this casting news.

Check out the rest of Hollywood's casting updates after the jump!

The premiere home video release this week is, without question, the Blu-ray for Sam Raimi's cult classic, "Evil Dead." To put it simply: the movie has never looked better in its shiny, new high-def ensemble. It can be viewed with one of two aspect ratios-- a widescreen 1.85:1 or a fullscreen 1.33:1. Most will automatically opt for the widescreen view, but it's worth noting that the 1.33:1 is the film's original format, as is noted in the all-new audio commentary (more on that in a moment). The fullscreen option looks slightly better overall, but the difference isn't a huge one-- viewer's preference can reign here, and be equally pleased in either case.

Then there's the new commentary. Raimi, star (and living legend) Bruce Campbell and producer Robert Tapert gather for an informative chat about the making of the film. They don't break it down scene by scene, but rather discuss the entire, harrowing four-year process of getting "Evil Dead" made, beginning to end. It nearly killed a few people, quite literally. Especially during the actual shoot, which went down at a backwoods cabin in Tennessee. With no town close by and lots of expensive equipment lying around, one member of the crew had to stay there each night to protect everything. Then there's the cabin, which has a history all its own. They don't get into in during the commentary, so I asked Campbell about it when I spoke to him recently... Read more...

Sam Raimi's classic horror film "The Evil Dead" arrives on Blu-ray next Tuesday, exactly one week from today. In addition to a lovely-looking hi-def transfer and what is apparently the first available version of the movie in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio -- which is actually full screen, compared to the more standard 1.85:1 widescreen -- there's also a bonus DVD of behind-the-scenes content and an all-new audio commentary with Raimi, star Bruce Campbell and producer Robert Tapert.

The commentary is pretty stellar. Making "The Evil Dead" was a four-year process for these guys, 12 weeks of which were spent in what sounds like the absolute hell of shooting at that cabin. Joking statements are made comparing the experience there to that of Vietnam, and the anecdotes the shared range from appalling to downright frightening. Raimi, Campbell and Tapert have all known each other for a very long time, and that relationship really comes out in their back-and-forth banter.

Campbell was kind enough to take some time to chat with MTV News this past weekend, and he seemed very excited to be talking about this movie that was so instrumental in launching his career... and not just because it was his first feature. Read more...

You might have noticed that we've been a bit more selective with our Daily TwitPics lately. It's all because when you see it pop up in a headline, we want you to associate with something awesome as opposed to just another random celebrity group shot.

Today's pic is undeniably awesome. You all know who Bruce Campbell is, right? You'd better-- this isn't a guy you want to get angry. He's the star of Sam Raimi's "Evil Dead" series and a frequent Raimi collaborator, with bit appearances in all three "Spider-Man" movies. He's also the undisputed king of the one-liner (sorry, David Caruso). I know what you're thinking... who could possibly be crazy enough to hold up Campbell at gunpoint. How about Campbell himself? "WOW" is the word you're looking for.

The good folks at Bloody-Disgusting have discovered one of the many reminders that the Internet is, in fact, a blessing upon this world. As the headline already told you, the below video contains 60 seconds of claymation sung to the tune of Sam Raimi's horror/comedy classic, "Evil Dead."

And hey, look at that. They got Clay-Bruce Campbell's chin right!

FROM SPLASH PAGE: As we reported last week, much about "Spider-Man 4" is still in flux: Gary Ross is currently hard at work on a draft of the script after getting notes from director Sam Raimi and they claim they're still figuring out which villain makes the most sense to compliment Peter Parker's character growth in the picture. What's more, beyond the return of franchise stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, few decisions about the cast have been made.

All of which makes comments that Raimi's buddy Bruce Campbell made last month extremely interesting, when he told Access Hollywood he'd have a major role in the new film.

When MTV News had a chance to talk to Raimi, of course we needed to know if Campbell was speaking the truth. After sneaking into cameos in the first three "Spider-Man" flicks, has the "Evil Dead" star really nabbed a major part in the fourth installment?

Sam RaimiContributed by Rodrigo Perez

For a few years now, there’s been ample talk of revising the Sami Raimi helmed “Evil Dead” franchise with star Bruce Campbell telling MTV last Spring that a 4th installment of the horror-comedy film would not feature a younger sidekick to give it more contemporary juice as many sit-coms in the past have done so to desperately revive their ailing product. Back then, only a year ago Campbell was raring to go.

However, Campbell himself recently shed a little doubt on the project himself when he told the A/V Club that he felt there should be no more stories involving the Ash Williams protagonist he plays in the “Evil Dead” trilogy. "I think there should be an end to everything,” he responded when asked whether the character of Ash is worthy of more movies. “I mean, did anyone really want 'Indiana Jones 4'? The answer is no. I've taken a poll in about seven theaters now. Of 300 people, three hands go up. You are bound to disappoint."

Sounds like Campbell might have had enough, no?

However, speaking to Sam Raimi at SXSW on the eve of the premiere of his new film, “Drag Me To Hell,” the director didn’t seem worried in the least and in fact laughed off Campbell’s remarks and insisted the actor would still be onboard whenever they can find time to revisit the beloved cult and campy horror classics.

"He can dream all he wants. He's trying to get out of getting back in shape,” he smiled. "I'm going to kick his butt in shape. I'm gonna say 'get back in the chainsaw!'" Read more...

Bruce CampbellTwo weeks ago, director Sam Raimi shocked Comic-Con with a declaration that "Evil Dead" would rise again. So when can we start salivating with anticipation?

"When he's ready, I'm ready," star Bruce Campbell told MTV News.

While nothing remains written or planned, Campbell and Raimi have actually discussed the long-anticipated movie at length, the man with the million dollar chin insisted, saying that they already have a basic idea of where to take Ash, the poor S-Mart clerk who's already narrowly survived three adventures - the last of which, "Army of Darkness," got released in 1992.

Part of that plan, naturally, involves accounting for the fact that the last "Evil Dead" movie got released in 1992. Read more...

Evil DeadSure, there are always plenty of guys in Spider-Man and Venom tights every year, practicing their acrobatics in the hallways at San Diego’s Comic-Con. But whenever A-list director Sam Raimi comes to the annual convention, one costume impresses him more than any other.

“There’s guys dressed up as Ash!” he marveled, making reference to the star character from the movies that put him on Hollywood’s radar more than twenty-five years ago. “That’s great. Wow. I’m honored that they’re still imitating Bruce’s character from the “Evil Dead” movies.”
