'Tron Legacy': Dive Into The DVD With Bruce Boxleitner

Last fall’s “Tron Legacy” was one of the most anticipated movies of all time. From the teaser film released at Comic-Con International in San Diego years before to the elaborate events staged across the country, “Tron Legacy” was one of the most unique films in recent memory — and that’s before you factor in the special effects. But for “Tron” fans, this was something they’ve been waiting for since 1982. And they weren’t alone.

For actor Bruce Boxleitner, the resurgence of the “Tron” franchise 15+ years after the original was a chance to continue the story and give back to the fans who have approached him throughout the years expressing their love for the original film and the desire for more.

Although he starred in two major television hits in “Scarecrow & Mrs. King” and “Babylon 5,” Boxleitner will always be best remembered by the world at large as the computer program that fought for the users. Today’s release of “Tron Legacy” on Blu-ray and DVD offers both the final iteration of the 2010 film as well as a look into the future with the series of new short films Boxleitner shot for the collection. In 'Tron Uprising,' Bruce Boxleitner Explores The Animated Gaming Grid

Tron UprisingWith the DVD of “Tron: Legacy” hitting shelves next week (April 5), fans are in for a load of new material – but that’s not all they have to look forward to.

Next year, "Tron" lovers can tune in to Disney XD and see the next chapter in the epic sci-fi franchise when the animated series “Tron: Uprising” makes its debut. The 10-part series is set between the time of the first film and last December’s “Tron: Legacy,” showing the titular Tron training a new program to take up his cause. For actor Bruce Boxleitner, it’s a long-overdue chance to fill in this missing chapter for the franchise and his character.

“In this story, Tron is a much more battle-hardened warrior than you’ve seen before,” the veteran actor tells MTV News. “It’s like 'The Mask of Zorro' where he’s looking for a young one to train and to have that master-student relationship.”

'Tron: Legacy' DVD To Include A Teaser For 'Tron 3'

"Tron: Legacy" is still kicking it in the box office, having made more than $163 million domestic to date, but that doesn't mean it's too early to start talking about the DVD extras. Or, to be more specific, how the DVD extras relate to the planned "Tron 3."

Harry Knowles over at Ain't It Cool News got the scoop that a teaser of sorts was going to be included on the upcoming DVD, and will be made up of at least three scenes. All the footage was shot before Thanksgiving this past year, so in other words, it was shot with the rest of the film.

'TRON: Legacy' Sneak Peek: 20 Minutes Of Footage Shows 3-D Awesomeness, Disc Wars And Jeff Bridges

TRON: LegacyIf you're among the "TRON" fans itching to re-enter "The Grid" on December 17 when "TRON: Legacy" hits theaters, we've got some stellar news for you: MTV was in attendance last night when Disney offered a sneak peek at 20+ minutes of footage from the film... and it did not disappoint. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

Fans and members of the press were treated to five scenes, some in 3-D and some not, all from the first half of the film. First up was a 2-D scene that starts out the apartment of Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), son to long-missing software developer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges)... who'll you should remember as the guy who got sucked into and trapped inside his own video game in the 1982 original. Fans seemed pretty pumped when Bruce Boxleitner, reprising his role as Kevin's good pal Alan Bradley, popped up to tell Sam he just received a mysterious page from Kevin's old arcade that could have only come from Kevin himself. Sam goes to check it out and -- shocker -- gets himself sucked into the game as well. Read More...

New 'TRON: Legacy' Poster Pays Homage To Original 'TRON' Poster

Calling all TRONerds! Yesterday, Walt Disney Pictures released a new poster for "TRON: Legacy," the sequel to the 1928 sci-fi classic "TRON," on Yahoo! yesterday... and it's giving us a little spat of déjà vu: You see, it not-so-subtly pays homage to its '82 predecessor.

Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde are the center of attention in this poster, with Hedlund’s hands reaching toward an identity disc. Sound familiar yet? Well, that's because it's the same iconic imagery showcased in the original "TRON" poster.

Of course, there are some differences, with the new "Legacy" poster illustrating just how much technology has advanced since 1982. The original "TRON" one-sheet is all black and we only see the silhouettes of TRON (Bruce Boxleitner) and Sori (Cindy Morgan) reaching for the identity disc. The "Legacy" poster, by contrast offers a crisp, up-close-and-personal view of the easy-on-the-eyes stars and a stunning visual of the entire ENCOM universe in the background. EXCLUSIVE: New 'Tron' Will Be 'Stand-Alone Sequel' With Lightcycles, Tanks And Other Odes To The Original

'Tron'Trooooooon! Say it like you’re James T. Kirk shaking your fist at genetically-engineered mortal enemy Khaaaaaaaaaaan!

That was my reaction the first time I heard about Disney’s planned sequel to “Tron,” the classic 1982 sci-fi adventure about a man named Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) who is electronically trapped by an evil artificial intelligence inside a computer mainframe. And it still captures how pumped I am for the new film which, as producer Sean Bailey confirmed to MTV News, will honor the roots of the original—lightcycles, tanks and more—while acting as what he termed a “stand-alone sequel.”

“You don’t have to know the ’82 movie to come in and appreciate and enjoy this one,” he explained. “That said, we accept what happened in the ’82 movie happened in ’82. Our movie is set in 2010. We built a mythology that spans the intervening 28 years of, ‘Here’s what we think happened with Kevin Flynn and with [nefarious software corporation] ENCOM and all those principle characters. 'Tron 2.0’ Adds Original Castmember Bruce Boxleitner To Roster

Bruce Boxleitner in 'Tron'If any fans of the original "Tron" were worried this would be more of a flashy remake than a sequel, with pretty young things replacing their 80s favorites, they can take heart. ComingSoon.net reports that Bruce Boxleitner has joined the cast, reuniting with his co-star Jeff Bridges.

It's easy to figure out who Boxleitner is probably playing -- Tron himself. Yes, the title actually refers to a character, the program-within-a-program that must help Kevin Flynn survive the deadly computer game he was sucked into.
