'Hobbit' Gains Its Final Cast Member: Billy Connolly

Better late than never! Even though Peter Jackson and the rest of the cast of "The Hobbit" have been busy filming the upcoming two films in New Zealand, there were still apparently characters left to be cast. But no longer.

Deadline is reporting that Billy Connolly has come on board to play the role of Dain Ironfoot. The dwarf warrior is the second cousin of head dwarf Thorin Oakenshield. The reason that Connolly was able to sign on so late in the game is because the character of Dain only has a small role in "The Hobbit," and likely will only appear in the second "Hobbit" film, "There and Back Again," which comes out in 2013.

'Boondock Saints II' Brings The McManus Brothers Back... But What About The Rope?

Sure, this weekend's premiere of "Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day" features the return of Connor and Murphy McManus, Il Duce and the rest of Boston's favorite movie vigilantes, but when I asked around for some questions to ask the film's director and stars when they dropped by Movies Blog HQ, there was one element from the first film everyone was asking about for the sequel: the rope.

Fans of the original film will no doubt recall the brothers' oft-quoted, obscenity-laden debate regarding the merits of bringing rope to their showdown with a mob boss—and according to director Troy Duffy and stars Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus and Billy Connolly, the rope is indeed back by popular demand. 'Boondocks Saints 2' McManus Brothers Get Back Into Character... 10 Years Later

It's been 10—count 'em, 10!—years since brothers Connor and Murphy McManus kicked off their quest to rid Boston of evildoers in director Troy Duffy's "The Boondock Saints," and now the city's vigilante duo are strapping on their guns (and rope) for the sequel to the cult-classic film.

"Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day" hits theaters October 30, reuniting actors Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus as the McManus brothers, along with Billy Connolly, who reprises his role as their long-lost father (the mysterious and lethal "Il Duce"). Even with a decade between them and their debut as the McManus siblings, Flanery and Reedus told MTV News it was easy to slip back into character—as easy as putting on a pea coat and slinging some rope over their shoulders, in fact.

"You put on the pea coats and all that and it's sort of deja vu," said Reedus. "doing this film, the second one, is like coming back home in a way." Read More...

'Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day' -- The Last Cult Movie

The definition of just what makes a cult hit has changed in the ten years since Troy Duffy made "The Boondock Saints". The ubiquity of the Internet and the coming-of-age of a generation weaned on the copious amount of very specific information it offers has given almost every piece of media, film or other, its very own cult following.

By information, I mean easier access and smaller audiences. When you say a movie earned itself a cult following by "word of mouth" in 2009, you're typically saying that it fostered early hype thanks to a small but vocal online community, further cultivated through viral marketing. "The Boondock Saints" was the real deal, one of the very last cult movies to find its audience through literal word of mouth. Read More...
