"Beastly" takes a tale as old as time and re-jiggers it for modern audiences. While Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" featured animate, talking household items and a "beast" with noble bearing, "Beastly" instead features a horribly scarred rich kid played by Alex Pettyfer, the lovely Vanessa Hudgens as his love interest and Neil Patrick Harris as the beast's blind, wise-beyond-his-years tutor. Check out the debut trailer below, featuring an exclusive introduction from Hudgens.

All signs are pointing to Alex Pettyfer having a great year. You'll see him -- sort of -- this summer in "Beastly," a modern-day retelling of "Beauty and the Beast." I say "sort of" because Pettyfer has the film's "beast" role, which means he's probably going to be fairly unrecognizable. We'll be seeing more of him soon enough though; some big things are happening for the young actor, as he told MTV's Larry Carroll last week at ShoWest.

"I can't really say at the moment, but I've got two movies that I think I just got offered today. So I might shoot them back-to-back," he said. "But I'm not gonna say anything, I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed." Read More...

Get ready, readers. We have a lot of stuff coming your way from ShoWest. I've looked at the shoot reports and it's pretty dizzying. Especially when you consider that we're still sorting through everything from last weekend at South By Southwest. My goal now is to stall you with a little bit of misdirection. Look! Pretty pictures!

In the image below you can see Neil Patrick Harris, who recently joined the cast of "The Smurfs" as the live-action lead, and Vanessa Hudgens, who we'll see next year in Zack Snyder's "Sucker Punch." Before all that however, we'll see Harris and Hudgens both in the "Beauty and the Beast"-inspired "Beastly." Click the image below to check out our full ShoWest image gallery.

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: The release of the new Vanessa-Hudgens-starring flick "Beastly" is more than eight months away, but we learned from Summit Entertainment that its never too early to start advertising your sure-to-be-a-teen-hit. This week, the 21 second (actually, more like 16 second!) teaser trailer hit the Internet, but we're not so sure how we feel about it yet.

"This is my story," Alex Pettyfer says in his voiceover, "and this is my curse. Who am I? I'm you. Your ugliness, inside out."

Neil Patrick HarrisHe's a man who has many names: Doogie Howser... NPH... NPattz (patent pending). Neil Patrick Harris saw his career take a Tarantino-esque turn after a co-starring role in "Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle." The boy who was Doogie Howser had suddenly become a man, and a really freaking crazy man at that. The newfound fame is likely what led to his starring role on the hit TV series "How I Met Your Mother." By the time the "Harold & Kumar" sequel came up, there wasn't really a question about seeing Harris return; he is integral to the series now.

Now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that NPH has nailed down his next two projects: a starring role in "The Best and the Brightest" and a support spot in "Beastly." This news come hot on the heels of Harris's appearance as the host of last night's Tony Awards ceremony. Read More...
