Barack ObamaPresident Barack Obama shocked the world with yesterday's news that the United States have located and killed Al Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, and celebrities throughout Hollywood have taken to Twitter to tackle the development.

We brought you some of those highlights earlier, but the floodgates remain open well into the afternoon today, particularly with fascination over Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's apparent early knowledge of bin Laden's death, and the successful mission's eerie similarities with "Star Trek."

But Obama was a fixture of the weekend's headlines for other reasons, too: namely, the speech he delivered at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday evening, which included jabs at potential presidential rival and "Celebrity Apprentice" host Donald Trump. Several actors, writers and directors were impressed with Obama's comedic chops, particularly in light of the bin Laden development just one day later.

Looking past politics, one "Fast Five" actor was over the moon with his movie's huge debut, while Olivia Wilde identified a colleage who she won't be making press rounds with again anytime in the near future.

Osama bin LadenLate last evening, President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Laden has been killed by United States forces in an operation conducted in Pakistan. The news set Twitter ablaze immediately, with countless Hollywood icons and celebrities weighing in with their thoughts on the 9/11 architect's death.

Responses from actors, writers and filmmakers alike differed dramatically in terms of how to react to the news. Some comedians, including Dane Cook, approached the announcement with as much comedy as the situation could possibly afford.

Beleaguered "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof even endured yet another insult towards his show's conclusion, this time with a smile. Most surprising of all, it may have been Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who first brought news of bin Laden's death to Twitter. And, yes, Charlie Sheen said "winning." You knew that was coming.

I'm @roundhoward and this is a special edition of Twitter-Wood for May 2, 2011.

Sarah PalinMTV Movies' pop culture radar rarely crosses into the realm of American politics. When it comes to the passing of laws, the jostling for influence, the occasional plunge into corruption, our coverage usually stays strictly in matters of fiction: "Frost/Nixon," "W," the vastly underrated but actually enlightening Eddie Murphy vehicle, "The Distinguished Gentleman."

Wednesday, however, brought us the opportunity to dip our digital pen into real-world political ink. Following President Barack Obama's State of the Union address the previous evening — during which he emphasized the importance of "winning the future" — former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin took to Fox News with a cutting retort.

"His theme last night was WTF, winning the future," she said during an interview with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. "I thought, okay, that acronym — spot on. There were a lot of WTF moments throughout that speech."

Now, when it comes to WTF moments, MTV knows more than a thing or two. For two straight years, the Movie Awards has put forth an entire category devoted to honoring America's best WTF moments. Does Obama's speech measure up? Was Palin overstating the case? Take a look at some of MTV's past WTF honorees and let us know whose side you're on.

Jumping in the Poop Shed: Ayush Mahesh Khedekar in "Slumdog Millionaire"
"Slumdog" may have been the feel-good movie of 2008, but this particular scene was all sorts of wrong. The young boy worships a pop culture icon so dearly, he's willing to plunge into a festering pit of poop to meet him. How many Palin and Obama supporters would fight through such stomach-churning obstacles for the opportunity to say, "OMG, I love you?"

President Obama and Paul RuddWe're all big fans of Paul Rudd here at MTV Movies Blog, but we weren't aware until this weekend that our appreciation for his comedic talent is shared by Paul McCartney (who appeared with Rudd on this weekend's "Saturday Night Live") and President Barack Obama. And both of them told him in person.

That's right, Obama invited Rudd and his "How Do You Know" co-star Reese Witherspoon to the Oval office so he could say hello to them while they were shooting the film in Washington, D.C. "We went to the Oval Office, and there was Hillary Clinton having a meeting with Joe Biden. It was insane," Witherspoon told Entertainment Weekly. "Then Obama came out and he turned to Paul and said, 'I loved you in "I Love You, Man."'I grabbed Paul and I was like, 'Are you freaking out right now?' He's like, 'I'm freaking out!'"

Not going to lie, we love the fact that Obama digs on one of our favorite recent films, so that got us thinking about which other films our current POTUS might secretly love. After all, we already know he's a fan of "Battlestar Galactica." Check out our list after the jump. Read More...

The heroes of "Lost" have faced many adversaries throughout their tenuous stay on the mysterious island, including indigenous hostiles, time travel and a smoke monster. But can Jack, Locke and the others hold their own against the mighty will of President Barack Obama?

Luckily, they can.

Over the past several days, rumors circulated that the President's upcoming State of the Union address would fall on either January 26th or February 2nd, the latter of which is the premiere date for the final season of "Lost." Many expected that Obama would settle on that date, forcing ABC to seriously reconsider their "Lost" strategy. As it turns out, that's no longer a concern. Read More...

Tonight, President Barack Obama will deliver a highly anticipated address on the matter of national health care reform. The speech, undoubtedly one of the most important of Obama's career, has been described by insiders as a "game-changer" regarding his position on health care. Still, while Obama is an indisputably gifted orator and his speech tonight is of paramount importance to the people of America, can he measure up to some other famous Presidential addresses -- particularly on the subjects of alien invasions and imminent, Gary Oldman-led terrorist attacks?

If these five fictional Presidential speeches are any indicator, President Obama has his work cut out for him when speaking to the nation tonight. Read More...

During last night's primetime press conference, President Barack Obama elevated his "hip" factor even further by dropping a somewhat indirect reference to "The Matrix" into his defense of health care reform. Here's the quote: "If there's a blue pill and a red pill, and the blue pill is half the price of the red pill and works just as well, why not pay half price for the thing that's going to make you well?"

Of course, any "Matrix" fan will tell you that the blue pill is the wrong choice. That one is Neo's (Keanu Reeves) out, his last chance to remain blissfully ignorant of real-world realities. The red pill makes his "blinders come off," teaching him the truth of what the world has become. Is the President trying to tell us that we should chillax in our blissful ignorance? Or am I just picking nits? Check out the video below and decide for yourself; the reference comes in at around 2:22.

In the world of international politics, ceremonial gifts representing the various nations are often the drug of choice for visiting dignitaries. From ornamental swords to antique furniture, a US president can rake in dozens of items over the course of their administration.

Britisn Prime Minister Gordon Brown's trip to America this week was no different, and he brought along some goodies. Specifically, Brown presented the Prez with a pen holder constructed from wood used in the Victorian era anti-slave ship HMS Gannet. But that wasn't all: according to the Daily Mail, Obama also received the ship's certificate, a first edition biography of Winston Churchill and an assortment of high-value toys for his children.

So what did Gordon get in return? For his sake, we hope he really, really enjoyed "Star Wars." That's because Obama gave his English counterpart a basket containing 25 American films, ranging from "E.T." to "Some Like It Hot." It's worth noting that American DVDs (known as Region 1) won't play on British DVD players (known as Region 2), so we hope they brought along the PAL versions. For a full list of films now in possession by the Gordon household, head after the jump. Read More...
