Here's some news that shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. Sony Pictures has accepted a pitch from screenwriter Sheldon Turner ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning") for a video game-to-film adaptation of "inFamous." This isn't a shock because "inFamous" is a PlayStation 3-exclusive title, a gaming console which also happens to be a Sony product. Imagine that.
"inFamous" was just released in May, to positive response from fans and critics alike. The game tells the story of Cole MacGrath, a bike messenger who is at ground zero when a catastrophic explosion leaves the fictional Empire City in a state of ruin and lawlessness. MacGrath, who mysteriously survives a blast that leaves a massive crater in the middle of the city, quickly learns that he also possesses a range of electricity-based superpowers. Read more...
Every video game adaptation that's put on the path to the big screen leaves you hoping that this will be the one to break the crappy gaming movie curse ("The Wizard" notwithstanding). While my hope remains pinned on Mike Newell's upcoming "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," there may also be hope in the form of "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbia is developing a live-action adaptation of "Fortune." Kyle Ward is to pen the script; if the name sounds familiar, that's because he was mentioned here just yesterday in association with the upcoming "Hitman 2." No director has been set, but Avi Arad, Charles Roven, Ari Arad and Alex Gartner are producing. Read more...
Last July, MTV News sat down with former Marvel honcho Avi Arad and asked him straight out about a rumored "Iron Man" cameo from two-time Oscar winning actress Hillary Swank, a small role which director Jon Favreau seemed to confirm in an early production blog only weeks before.
"How do you know [about that]?" a stunned Arad replied at the time, admitting that Swank did appear and that it was a "cameo."
