If you haven't been tuned in already, Nimród Antal is a name you're going to be hearing a lot more of in the future. The director is in the midst of steering "Predators," the Robert Rodriguez-produced reboot of the classic alien franchise, toward the big screen.
While shooting on that sci-fi flick continues, Antal's latest movie, the heist flick "Armored" arrived in theaters last Friday. In a recent conversation, star Matt Dillon, who plays an armored car security guard who finds himself in the middle of a high stakes robbery, couldn't stop singing the praises of his up-and-coming director. 1. "The Blind Side" ($20.4 million)
2. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" ($15.7 million)
3. "Brothers" ($9.7 million)
5. "A Christmas Carol" ($7.5 million)
4. "Old Dogs" ($6.9 million)
The best way to stop a vampire isn't prolonged exposure to sunlight, nor is it a wooden stake to the heart — apparently, all you need is an unassuming sports-themed family drama starring Sandra Bullock at your disposal.
To the surprise of many, "The Blind Side" — now in its third week in theaters — dethroned "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" as the first place finisher at this weekend's box office. Bullock's sports drama started the weekend off on Friday with a lead over the supernatural romance film, though the victory is nonetheless surprising given the record-smashing numbers "New Moon" posted during its opening weekend. Despite those records, "The Blind Side" was able to overpower "New Moon" by slightly less than $5 million. Read more...

1. "The Blind Side" ($6.8 million)
2. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" ($5.2 million)
3. "Brothers" ($3.57 million)
5. "Armored" ($2.4 million)
4. "Old Dogs" ($2.06 million)
Who would have ever thought that Sandra Bullock could give Edward Cullen and Bella Swan such a run for their money? The reputable actress' latest film has given the supernatural romantic pairing more trouble than Jacob Black ever could as "The Blind Side" beat "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" at the box office on Friday evening. I expect we'll see the "New Moon"-slaught wane a bit this week, especially in light of its not-overwhelming performance through the holiday weekend. Not that $42 million is bad, but it's quite a drop after the $140+ million opening weekend the previous week. Perhaps that was just holiday traffic? Or is declining attendance the sign that the phenomenon isn't quite as big as some had guessed? I'll be following up on those questions later today, but for now let's consider what's new this week.
We'll start with "Armored," directed by Nimrod Antal. This is the guy who's currently hard at work on "Predator" sequel "Predators." So if you're curious about what to expect there, "Armored" is a good place to start. It's also an action-thriller starring Matt Dillon, Laurence Fishburne and Jean Reno, so there's that. Read more...
Eric Bana is one of those actors who toys with full-fledged, American A-List stardom, but he never quite gets there. Maybe it's intentional, maybe not, but his upcoming slate (which includes the hotly anticipated "Star Trek" and "The Time Traveler's Wife") might just propel him there -- and he may have a pretty juicy follow-up in "Armored."
According to Variety, Bana is set to star in Millennium Films' remake of the 2004 French film "Le Convoyeur," with F. Gary Gray in talks to direct. Read more...

His debut film opened at number one, and Columbus Short's follow-up flick is looking at a high-profile opening later this month. So, what project does the fast-rising actor want to use his newfound clout to help bring to the screen?
"We need to do a live-action 'Thunder Cats,'" the "Stomp the Yard" star grinned. "I might produce that next."
Although Short might be joking about making plans to scream "Thunder! Thunder! Thunder!" anytime soon, he is quick to point out that he ain't no "Ho!" either. Instead, the 25-year-old has been carefully building a stable of intriguing projects, turning down high-profile paychecks in flicks like "Justice League", and getting ready to knock his profile up a few pegs when the Chris Brown-starrer "This Christmas" hits theaters on the 21st. (After the jump, Short talks teaming with Kate Beckinsale, thieving with Matt Dillon, and his first horror movie) Read more...
