James Cameron's "Prometheuses" would be awesome. But… it's not happening.

A report surfaced over the weekend that Ridley Scott and Cameron were planning another "Alien" to "Aliens" handoff with the "Prometheus" franchise, with Cameron stepping in to direct the sequel after Scott's upcoming epic hits this summer. Not happening. It's an April Fool's Day prank that's gotten out of hand, nothing more, nothing less.

Well, maybe a little bit more: for me, it's the cruelest April Fool's Day prank you can possibly play.

Watch yo back, ya’ll – lest you let down your guard and become an April Fool! We’d be remiss not to nab the opportunity to pump you up for today’s worldwide celebration of all things humiliation, which is why we decided to reminisce about some of our favorite movie pranks.

So take a break from that evil scheme you’re cooking up (the Jell-O mold needs time to set, after all), sit back (but check your seat first) and bask in the glory of these five cinematic capers. April Fool's Day is a cruel, cruel mistress. Although many people engage in friendly jokes over the course of the mischievous holiday, all too often the pranks are mean-spirited and, in some cases, deadly. It's something that the movie industry knows all too well — while April Fool's isn't necessarily a commonly celebrated holiday in Hollywood, the tradition of pulling a fast one on audiences is hardly unusual.

April Fools' Day can be pretty fun, so long as nobody gets hurt. And as long as nobody is left with an empty wallet for the mere non-luxury of a "gotcha!" Twist endings can have such an effect, particularly if the whole film you've just paid to see is completely negated by a frustrating reveal at the end claiming that what we just watched didn't happen. Personally, when I go to the movies, I don't want the joke to be on me. So, I've compiled this list of five flicks that pulled the wool over our eyes.
