The stars of "Star Trek 2" are very excited that J.J. Abrams is returning to the director's chair for the sequel. MTV News caught up with Zachary Quinto and Anton Yelchin recently while they were promoting their upcoming films "Margin Call" and "Like Crazy," and the two expressed nothing but enthusiasm about the news that Abrams will be helming the follow up to 2009's hit "Star Trek."

"I think it would be unimaginable to make that film without J.J., so to know that he's going to be at the helm again and sort of manning the ship so to speak is pretty amazing," Yelchin said. "We all have such tremendous respect for him and he's such a brilliant human being that it gives you great confidence in going in to make this again."

Quinto echoed the same sentiments, saying that he "would never have imagined" that Abrams wouldn't have come back for the sequel. Since Abrams has many film, television and book properties up in the air, it took about two years for him to confirm his involvement for "Star Trek 2," and Quinto said he's glad that "there's no doubt about that."

Think you have the neighbor from hell? Tell that to Charley Brewster; he's literally facing a neighbor from the great beyond throughout the duration of "Fright Night," director Craig Gillespie's remake of the 1985 cult classic.

It's teenager Charley versus the vampire Jerry in "Fright Night," and this battle against the undead is taking its toll on our poor hero. In this MTV News exclusive clip, Charley does his best to explain the threat-next-door to his mother Jane without spilling the beans that Jerry's a blood-sucking, fang-wielding monstrosity — a revelation that not only wouldn't many any sense, but wouldn't really do any good. But his abilities to properly articulate his fears are, forgive the pun, a bit drained at the moment.

He was a self-appointed psychologist in "Charlie Bartlett," Chekov in "Star Trek," appeared opposite Arnold (er, sort of) in "Terminator Salvation" and now he's kicking vampire ass in "Fright Night."

True enough, Anton Yelchin has played a wide range of roles, but what makes him special enough to play the new Charley Brewster in the upcoming "Fright Night" remake? MTV News sat down with Yelchin's co-star Christopher Mintz-Plasse and director Craig Gillespie at MTV Sneak Peek Week to figure that question out.

Fright Night"Twilight" lovers, you think you know vampires? Wait until you've been through "Fright Night."

Former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" writer Marti Noxon tackled the script for Craig Gillespie's forthcoming "Fright Night" remake, starring Colin Farrell as a bloodthirsty vampire who heads to suburbia and terrorizes his next-door neighbor Charlie, played by "Star Trek" veteran Anton Yelchin. Yes, technically you can add this one to the increasing pile of Hollywood reboots and remakes — but that doesn't mean this 1985 horror-comedy classic wasn't worth revisiting for today's audience.

When I spoke with Noxon for MTV's Summer Movie Preview week, we talked about the need to return to "Fright Night," how the movie handles current perceptions of the vampire genre, and what Yelchin and his distinguished cast members brought to the table for the upcoming remake. Read about all that and more past the jump.

Long distance relationships are difficult enough to master in real life; it's no wonder Hollywood has had trouble capturing their complexities on the big screen.

Thankfully, a Sundance gem called "Like Crazy," which has quickly become one of the buzziest entries at this year's festival, has just changed all that with a truthful and bittersweet portrayal of managing — and, as often as not, failing to manage — love from afar.

Directed by Drake Doremus, the mostly improvised movie follows a young couple ("Star Trek's" Anton Yelchin, 21 and relative newcomer Felicity Jones, 27, in what deserves to be a breakout role) and their relationship over the course of eight years.

MTV News got the two stars together for an interview to talk about the Sundance fav, as well as how they attained their rooted-in-reality on-screen relationship. "We went to a training camp on how to be friends," joked Yelchin, as Jones cracked back, "We hated each other at first, but we managed to make it work."

There's perhaps nothing more intimate than the pictures that result from a photo booth, which is why we always look forward to seeing what we get from Sundance. So far we've had everyone from Ben Foster and Peter Dinklage to Elizabeth Olsen and Amy Ryan come through MTV's studio.

One such fantastic photo is below, featuring Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones, stars of the incredibly well reviewed Sundance flick "Like Crazy." Take a gander at it below, and then click here to check out all our other photo booth pics.

Though the untitled "Star Trek" sequel has been tapped for an alleged summer 2012 release date, there hasn’t been much news on the development front in recent months. When MTV caught up with Anton Yelchin at Sundance while he was promoting his film "Like Crazy," we couldn't resist asking him for a scoop or an update on the film. Unfortunately for us, he knew nothing about the film. And he was very adamant that he knew nothing.

"I know we're going to shoot at some point but I really don’t know anything," Yelchin said. "You know obviously I sent people emails and say, like, 'Happy holidays,' but they're not like, 'PS, when are we making this movie?' No, I have no idea."

But he did have one thing to say for sure: he can't see the sequel not being directed by J.J. Abrams, despite previous rumors otherwise. Read More...

With vampire flicks all the rage these days, it was only a matter of time before someone did a remake of the 1985 horror-comedy flick "Fright Night." The movie, about a teenager who discovers that his next-door neighboor is a bloodsucker, has a huge cult following that even gathers once a year for a convention. So it should come as no surprise that a "Fright Night" redo has already been filmed and is set to hit theaters on August 19.

What might surprise you is that Colin Farrell has been tapped to play the aforementioned vampire, Jerry Dandrige, in the flick. And he's not the only familiar name you'll see in the credits: "Star Trek" actor Anton Yelchin is also aboard as the neighbor who discovers Farrell's secret, Christopher "McLovin" Mintz-Plasse plays vampire convert "Evil" Ed Thompsons, "Harry Potter" alum David Tennant is vamp-hunting actor Peter Vincent, and "Solitary Man" breakout Imogen Poots portrays love interest Amy, with Toni Collette and James Franco's brother David also popping up. When MTV News chatted with Farrell at the press day for the WWII drama "The Way Back," we talked with the star about how close the remake hews to the original... and why he took on the role.

"I mean, it's close enough in structure and story [to the original], but there are some things that have been changed," Farrell told us. "Peter Vincent's a lot younger, and what he does has kind of been put into a very contemporary setting. There are some changes." Read More...

"The Smurfs" might not be invading New York City until August 2011, but that doesn't mean that they won't remind us that they're coming. In a new image from the upcoming film, Papa Smurf, Brainy Smurf, Smurfette, Grouchy Smurf, Gutsy Smurf and Panicky Smurf just landed in Central Park on a nice sunny Manhattan day. At least we know they'll make some progress around the city since we first saw them in Times Square.

Craig Gillespie’s “Fright Night” remake has found its vampire: Colin Farrell. As reported by THR, he’ll go up against Anton Yelchin as Charlie Brewster in the remake of Tom Holland’s 1985 horror classic. Also joining the fun is Toni Collette, who is on board to play Charlie’s mother, one of many who just can’t resist her bloodsucking neighbor’s charm. Gillespie’s version will stick to the basics of the original, focusing on young Charlie's supicions about his neighbor Jerry, whom he believes to be a vampire. He confides in his mother as well as his best friend, Evil Ed and girlfriend, Amy, but no one believes his accusations.

With vampires continuing to be the hot thing in Hollywood, “Fright Night” should be a welcome edition to a genre that’s on the verge of growing tiresome. We’re not in for another dose of sparkling beasts or even creatures of the night with an affinity for gore. In fact, “Fright Night” is just the opposite; it’s an amalgamation of horror, suspense, camp and the teen factor, a la John Hughes, that feels remarkably real.

Of course, good source material doesn’t guarantee a well-made film, even with such a notable cast attached. Luckily there are tons of hits and misses in the world of horror reboots that Gillespie can consider when assembling the pieces of his re-creation. Check out this list of winners and losers to see where they went right and where they went wrong. Read More...
