Visiting the set of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is not unlike stepping into an elaborate joke. There's the Oval Office, Congress, a guy in a top hat and a beard... carrying an axe and fighting a vampire. It's a little bit more out there than Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" biopic, to say the least.
Speaking to MTV in this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, Benjamin Walker, who plays the reimagined Lincoln, downplayed the departure.
"He's the Abraham Lincoln we know; he's the hero," he told us. "In this context, he is also an action hero."

Although it didn't quite make the Sweet Sixteen in our big MTV Movie Brawl 2012, "Gangster Squad" is most definitely a film that we can't wait to see this year. The film is based on real-life events from the 1940s and 1950s when the LAPD tried to keep the east coast mafia from infiltrating Los Angeles. The very stellar actors involved are: Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte and Anthony Mackie.
When MTV News caught up with Mackie recently during the press day for "Man On A Ledge," we asked him how much fun the cast had with all the old-fashioned gun play required for the film noir.
"You know what, we did some pretty awesome gun stuff. It's actually going to be a really good movie. It looks amazing, L.A. is a city that's made for noir films and [director] Ruben [Fleischer] put together an untouchable cast," Mackie said. "You have these amazing actors, Sean Penn did his thing, it's a fun movie to be a part of. The guns stuff you will not be disappointed. There's a lot of Tommy gun craziness, bullets flying, everything."

There's something about the subject of gangsters that never gets old. Particularly the Hollywood variety, as depicted in films like "The Departed," "Get Shorty," "Snatch," "Donnie Brasco," HBO's "The Sopranos," and of course "The Godfather." They're all so cool, slick, watchable. It's that iconic allure that had us excited for Ruben Fleischer's next flick, "Gangster Squad," the moment it was announced.
The film is based on the L.A. Times' seven-part series, "Tales From The Gangster Squad," by writer Paul Lieberman, which revolved around the LAPD's war on infamous mobster Mickey Cohen. Heavy-hitter Sean Penn will play Cohen, and Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling will play two of the cops who try to bring him down, and always likable Emma Stone is in the mix as a sassy "siren" caught in a love triangle with Gosling's character and one of the gangsters.

Here's a pairing that comes wonderfully out of left field: Russell Brand could star in Diablo Cody's directorial debut "Lamb of God."
The news comes at us courtesy of Twitch, who learned that Brand has been offered the lead in the flick and that "Footloose" star Julianne Hough is the top choice to play the movie's leading lady. "Lamb of God" tells the story of a young conservative religious woman who loses her faith and decides to go to Vegas and "live the life of a sinner," but ends up finding her faith along the way.

The "G.I. Joe" sequel has already gotten rocked, and now it's about to get jinxed.
Despite the fact that most of the original "Rise of Cobra" actors are not returning for the developing "G.I. Joe 2," it looks like the ranks are filling out quite nicely all the same: on the heels of Dwayne Johnson's casting as Roadblock comes news from Heat Vision that Elodie Yung is playing the ninja Jinx. She'll next be seen as Rooney Mara's lesbian lover in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

After diffusing bombs alongside Jeremy Renner in "The Hurt Locker" and helping Hugh Jackman with boxing robots in next year's "Real Steel," rising star Anthony Mackie is getting back into the action with the currently shooting "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." But the historical vampire fiction adaptation won't be the last time Mackie gets his hands bloody, if rumors are to be believed.
Mackie's name has been mentioned in connection with two promising projects — "World War Z," a post-apocalyptic zombie tale starring Brad Pitt, and "Gangster Squad," the Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin-starring 1940s gangster flick set up at Warner Bros. But when MTV News spoke with Mackie on the set of "Abraham Lincoln" last month, the actor kept his lips sealed on whether or not he's actually involved in either project.
"I don't know man," the cagey Mackie told MTV when asked about "World War Z," adding with a laugh, "I will work for food."

Consider us pumped up for Hugh Jackman training robots to box.
The second trailer for "Real Steel" has hit the web, and if the first trailer showed us just how action packed the movie will be, then this one proves to us that the flick will also have heart. And, honestly, when you have a movie centered on boxing robots, a little bit of heart is a very good thing.

"The Hunger Games" just got a little bit foxier.
The search to fill out the cast for Gary Ross' much-anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins' beloved novel continues, and a major piece of the puzzle has just fallen into place: virtual unknown Jacqueline Emerson has been tapped for the role of Foxface, one of the Games' most successful and cunning tributes. Additionally, Chris Mark has been hired as her fellow District 5 tribute, an unnamed character — so, uh, you know he's going to do really well in that free-for-all death-match. For more on MTV's coverage of the "Hunger Games" casting news — particularly the casting of Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket — watch the video below.

It's a story about vampires and American socio-political history set to be directed by a guy best-known for a comic book adaptation starring Angelina Jolie. Which begs the question: just what the heck is gonna go down on screen when Timur Bekmambetov's "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" hits theaters in the summer of 2012?
Anthony Mackie, who co-stars as the 16th President's best friend, laid out the answer for MTV News: "'The Matrix' meets 'Gladiator,' " he told us while promoting the sci-fi drama, "The Adjustment Bureau." "A lot of me with a muddy shirt on, slicing dudes open."

So much for Joaquin Phoenix's days as a vampire slayer-training vampire. Although the "Walk the Line" and "I'm Still Here" actor was previously mentioned as a probable front runner for the pivotal role of Henry Sturgess in Timur Bekmambetov's "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," it now appears that the role has gone elsewhere.
The Hollywood Reporter states that instead of casting name actors like Phoenix, Bekmambetov has opted to go the route of lesser-known stars. To that end, "Mamma Mia!" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" actor Dominic Cooper has won the role of Sturgess, Abraham Lincoln's vampire mentor. He'll star opposite Benjamin Walker, who staked out the coveted role of the 16th President of the United States just last month.
