Angelina Jolie

It's been years since "Maleficent" was first announced, but apparently Angelina Jolie is finally ready to settle down with the project. She has expressed interest in the "Sleeping Beauty" spin-off since its early days back in 2010, but the project never quite came together. Now, however, "Maleficent" is actually pretty close to going in front of the camera.

Back in January, it was announced that "Avatar" and "Alice in Wonderland" production designer Robert Stromberg will direct the project. Apparently that was all the forward momentum the film needed, because The Hollywood Reporter has learned that this will be Jolie's next project after she's done with "In the Land of Blood and Honey."

"I haven't acted in two years, and I haven't done anything else since this. The next thing I am looking at is a Disney movie," she said at a news conference at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Angelina Jolie

The sky's the limit after you've won an Oscar. You can pair up with your good-looking counterparts for an ostentatious action film. You can lend your voice to a cartoon about kung-fu animals. You can even go for another Oscar, why not?

But the ultimate moment of FTW excess has to be starring in a Luc Besson film. Rejuvenating actors as action stars from Statham to Neeson, Besson's hyperkinetic blow outs have charmed American audiences, killed at the box office, and above all, done one important thing: made their stars look really, really awesome.

It makes sense, then, that Angelina Jolie is the latest actress to get on the Besson bandwagon.

Ridley Scott could soon become a very busy man. In addition to developing a sequel to "Blade Runner," the "Prometheus" director is eying two other big budget projects that he could potentially helm over the next year.

The first film on his docket is a biopic about Gertrude Bell appropriately titled "Gertrude Bell." The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Angelina Jolie is poised to star in the film, though the deal hasn't been finalized yet. It would be her first live action film since 2010's "The Tourist," and would align with her own interest in international policy.

Also on Scott's list of potential projects is a movie that could star Gerard Butler.

Angelina JolieFROM MTV MOVIES: We all know Angelina Jolie, Academy Award-winning actress, sex symbol, mother and philanthropist, but today for the first time, the new trailer for "In the Land of Blood and Honey" introduces all of us to Angelina Jolie, writer and director.

There's been talk about the project, a love story set during the Bosnian war in the early '90s, for a while now, but there was little actually known besides a rough description of the plot. Brad Pitt even refused to give his review of the film when he spoke with MTV News while promoting "Moneyball." The movie remained more or less a mystery with Jolie's name as the only recognizable feature.

That is, until the trailer hit the Web on Friday (October 21). In it, we get a look at a sweeping romance buried deep within the horrors of the Bosnian war and filled with suspicion and betrayal. The film stars Zana Marjanovic and Goran Kostic as two lovers caught in the middle of the conflict. The scale is surprisingly big, attempting to portray a full-out war, and features lots of gunfire and several large explosions. The trailer also makes clear the emotional weight tied to both the romance and its wartime backdrop.

FROM MTV MOVIES: Damn, those two lovebirds are simpatico!

For a while now, we've been trying to get Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to dish details about her directorial debut, "In the Land of Blood and Honey," and his rumored cameo in the project. Last December, all Jolie would say about whether Pitt was involved in the film, a love story about a relationship between a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman in the lead-up to the 1992 Bosnian war, was this: "Possibly."

Taking a cue from his lip-sealed lady, Pitt was determined at the Toronto International Film Festival this week not to say a peep about "Blood and Honey."

"I will say nothing," he declared. "Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing."

Those of us who have been excited about Disney's "Maleficent" project have been on a bit of a roller coaster ride of on-again, off-again production news.

The proposed live-action feature, which is, in a nutshell, "Sleeping Beauty" told from the titular sorceress' perspective, lost its original directorial candidate Tim Burton, due to his committments on "Dark Shadows," which, although a bummer, might have opened the door for "Black Swan" helmer Darren Aronofsky, who is reportedly being courted by Disney to step up to the plate.

When I happened upon still-attached star Angelina Jolie at the premiere of "Kung Fu Panda 2" recently, I asked her if she'd heard any news about the project or Aronofsky's involvement.

It feels somewhat off to call "Kung Fu Panda 2's" Jack Black and Angelina Jolie co-stars. Their animated characters Po and Tigress spend on-screen time together, but Black and Jolie solely worked off-screen, lending their voices to the upcoming sequel of their wildly successful 2008 flick.

But that doesn't mean moviegoers may never get to see them on film together someday. MTV News caught up with the stars at the Cannes Film Festival's "Kung Fu Panda 2" premiere, and they discussed the possibility of working together on a live-action movie at some point down the line.

"We haven't really talked about it, even in a joking way," Black admitted, "We haven't talked [about] it in any type of way." But things soon got rolling when Jolie chimed in about the idea of working with Black again in a different capacity: "I would love to."
