Peter Berg Reveals 'Friday Night Lights' Movie Details

The script for a spin-off movie for the "Friday Night Lights" TV series is close to being finished, but director Peter Berg said that his cast might be too busy with their other gigs to commit to it right now. In other parts of the web, Jaden Smith posted a new image from the Costa Rica set of "After Earth," Andrew Stanton is already working on a "John Carter" sequel and director Brian Taylor has been tapped to helm a "Twisted Metal" feature adaptation.

'John Carter' Trailer: Taylor Kitsch Brings 'Something New' To Mars

Earlier this week, a brand new poster and several new images debuted from the upcoming Disney fantasy film, "John Carter." The main photo of the bunch showed off the legendary white ape, an icon in the original books by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

In the new trailer, which debuted online on IGN this morning, we see Taylor Kitsch as John Carter take this monstrous beast down in one blow, all set to an orchestral cover of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir."

New 'John Carter' Images Give Better Look at Mars

It will be interesting to see how Disney proceeds with marketing "John Carter," formerly "of Mars," Andrew Stanton's big-budget adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs fantasy novels. With an untested star, Taylor Kitsch, and a first trailer that left most people lukewarm about the film's prospects, a boost in profile is certainly called for.

Something along those lines began last week when Entertainment Weekly published photos of the six-armed White Ape, a staple in the novels that's getting a more threatening treatment for the film version. Check it out after the break.

'John Carter' Sequel: 'One At A Time,' Says Taylor Kitsch

The buzz continues to build around Andrew Stanton's live action debut, "John Carter," and thus far it's mostly positive. We haven't really seen enough of the film yet to deconstruct it properly, but after a well-received showing at D23 last weekend, and updates from the key players involved, it's safe to say that our expectations will remain decidedly high until its March 9, 2012 release date.

When MTV News caught up with Stanton and star Taylor Kitsch, we asked what has been most satisfying about being involved in the project thus far.

"For me personally it's been the process," Kitsch said. "Now we're kind of reaping the journey we went on to create it, and working with this guy everyday and challenging each other and working off these great actors."

'John Carter Of Mars' Will Be A 'Historically Accurate Martian Film,' Says Director Andrew Stanton

Fans have waited a long time for "John Carter of Mars" to make its way to the big screen, and they're going to have to wait a little bit longer. The film, based on the series of Edgar Rice Burroughs novels about a Civil War veteran who becomes a great hero on Mars, isn't due until March 2012, so it's going to take some time.

But there are some lucky individuals who are experiencing "John Carter" every single day, like director Andrew Stanton. MTV's Josh Horowitz recently spoke with Stanton about the film's progress, and the director told us that while shooting technically wrapped some time ago, the hard work is far from over. Willem Dafoe Joins 'John Carter Of Mars'

Willem DafoeI think it's safe to say that everyone here at the MTV Movies Blog is pretty darn excited about Disney's adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter of Mars." The book is a sci-fi classic and the adaptation has Pixar's Andrew Stanton at the helm. It's an epic romance, and it's starring up-and-comers Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins. Now you have another reason to be excited about Stanton's adaptation, as the legendary Willem Dafoe has been cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dafoe is set to play Tars Tarkas. Tarkas is a great Martian warrior and leader, a member of a fairly brutal Martian society called the Tharks-- think Spartans, only with even less of a sense of humor. Read More...

'Wall-E'At the end of “WALL-E,” the intergalactic Buy n Large cruise ship returned to an Earth freshly blossoming with life after several centuries of garbage-strewn toxicity. Our loveable title character and his high-tech hottie girlfriend EVE looked well on their way to some version of robotic bliss. What happens next we’ll never know: there won’t be a sequel.

“Personally, I never consider sequels,” WALL-E writer/director Andrew Stanton told MTV News. “I think that takes a lot of hubris to think that your idea is going to live on and on, and I always love the idea of something just being contained and done.” But didn’t Stanton co-write the screenplay for “Toy Story 2”? 'John Carter Of Mars' To Be 'Perfect Definition' Of Live-Action, CGI Hybrid

'John Carter of Mars'In an exclusive interview with MTV News, “WALL-E” writer/director Andrew Stanton dished the most details yet about the progress of his next feature, “John Carter of Mars,” an adaptation of a nearly hundred-year-old serialized novel about a Civil War vet mysteriously transported to the Red Planet, where he encounters all manner of alien adventures.

“It’s real,” Stanton assured us. “We’re full bore on it right now. We’re over the hump of the writing phase, and we’re certainly far from rewrites.”

Andrew Stanton Out To 'Break The Curse' With Adaptation Of 'John Carter Of Mars'

Andrew StantonFrom Bob Clampett, to Ray Harryhausen, to Robert Rodriquez, and Jon Favreau, the list of directors who’ve wanted to make “John Carter of Mars” is a long one stretching back at least 70 years.

For a long time, Andrew Stanton, who was recently confirmed to be directing an adaption of “Carter” for Pixar Animation Studios, didn’t feel like he belonged in their company.

“I cared a lot that [‘Carter’] was done right, and I didn’t really care if I was the one to do it. I didn’t feel qualified,” he told MTV News. Read More...
