Of all the topics to be discussed with Paul Rudd during MTV News' visit to the set of "My Idiot Brother" recently, the "American Idol" judge debate was not thought to be among them. Yet, by the powers of Rudd and intrepid reporter Josh Horowitz, it did.
Somehow, during a brief exchange about how the "I Love You Man" actor should wear his hair for the interview, Rudd suggested the MTV viewers should vote for the preferred hairstyle, and the "Idol" dial-in voting was brought into the mix, along with a random segue during which Rudd joked about being named the new judge.
"This is my 'American Idol' moment, Rudd said after suggesting viewers should vote on his hair options, which prompted MTV's question: Are you going to be a judge on American Idol? Read more...

It's a bizarre day, MTV Movies Blog readers. The 16-year-old pop sensation Justin Bieber is getting a biopic. In 3-D. Directed by "An Inconvenient Truth" helmer Davis Guggenheim. And it will release next year, for Valentine's Day weekend. Also, my birthday.
Strange times. Pigs are most definitely not flying, not here in New York City at any rate, but this Bieber/Guggenheim collaboration really is happening. And why not? Bieber is a towering figure in the current pop culture landscape. Guggenheim is a top-level documentary filmmaker. Who better to tell the story of Bieber's sudden -- remember, he only came into the spotlight last year -- meteoric rise to success? It's with that in mind that I offer these other potential subjects for our most talented documentary filmmakers... Read more...

"American Idol" has undergone some radical changes over the last 24 hours — indeed, considerably longer than that, as Simon Cowell's decision to leave the show has been public knowledge for quite some time. But in the last day, it was announced that Ellen DeGeneres has opted to leave the show as well, and now reports are coming in that Kara DioGuardi has been fired, with other firings potentially to follow.
What is the world coming to?
Although this certainly doesn't herald the end of "American Idol" as a franchise, it would seem that significant changes are coming to the show. It only makes sense then that some network — say, I don't know, HBO — secures the rights to making the "American Idol" behind-the-scenes tell-all telemovie. In case that ever happens, we've taken the liberty of casting the major "American Idol" players with some of HBO's regularly used faces. Check out our casting picks after the jump! Read more...

Dane Cook has a proposal today for Ellen DeGeneres' replacement on "Ellen," now that she's going to be busy judging on "American Idol." Check it out, and see what you think. Cook leads the Twitter-Wood playlist today, right ahead of "Sorority Row" star Leah Pipes and Selena Gomez, who misses Freddie Prinze Jr.'s TV show "Freddie."
Eddie Izzard, Ice-T and previously featured photo subject Steve Agee all entered the running for the Twitter Pic of the Day today -- and though only one could come out on top, I've ranked them below, eventually giving Izzard the break because, well, he's run 39 marathons now, and that's worth acknowledgement. After all, how many have you run lately? Congrats to him, and congrats to you for getting to read the Twitter-Wood report for September 10, 2009. Read more...
Even if you don’t watch the show, all it takes is a general awareness of pop culture to know that the eighth season of the hit TV series “American Idol” comes to a close this week. Finalists Adam Lambert and Kris Allen sang their parting shots last night, leading into tonight’s results show in which the votes are tallied and the winner, announced.
Of course, neither Lambert nor Allen will be free after the credits roll tomorrow night. There’s the usual post-season tour to think about of course, and the inevitable recording deals. There will also be offers to act, in movies, TV shows, shorts, commercials… pretty much anything you can think of. It’s the nature of that beast we know as “American Idol”: win or lose, you’ve got a shot at moving on to great things. Or at least just things. Read more...

Sir Anthony Hopkins’ appearance at the Kodak Theatre was completely expected Sunday night. The respected movie badass and former Best Actor winner for “Silence of the Lambs” is, after all, an annual fixture for the Academy Awards. What far fewer Oscar watchers likely anticipated, however, was the British film icon’s confession of love for “American Idol.”
“I’m an ‘American Idol’ addict,” Hopkins told MTV News in an exclusive interview from the red carpet. Asked to name his guilty entertainment pleasures, the “Beowulf” and upcoming “King Lear” star offered up his TV habit shamelessly. Read more...

After last year's writers strike put a crimp in the style of last year's awards season, it would make sense that Hollywood is giddy to play dress up this year to make up for it. Last night's People's Choice Awards, the first of many red carpet events in the coming weeks, was hot with both Hollywood newbies and vets.
So, who wins the prize for best dressed?
If you look at our gallery of photos from the People's Choice arrivals, I think you'll agree: while, it wasn't the competition they're used to, 'American Idol' winners Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks really stole the show. (Check out a comparison after the jump.) Read more...

It may or may not be your idea of great cinema, but when deciding whether or not to see “College” this weekend, the new comedy starring Drake Bell, Andrew Caldwell, and Kevin Covais, well, there’s one thing you really should know, Covais laughed.
“I strip down to my underwear in the movie,” he said, tongue planted firmly in check. “Seriously, they should put that on the poster. See me stripped down to my tightie whities – how can people not go?”
(Note: Covais’s nickname on “American Idol” was Chicken Little. We’ve taken this paragraph off to allow you to make your own obvious pun.) Read more...
