"The Tourist" has had quite a ride these past few months. Further back than that even. First it was a possible "Valkyrie" follow-up for Tom Cruise. Then Charlize Theron started negotiating to star alongside Cruise. Following a year of silence on the project, the news broke last month that Angelina Jolie was now in talks to replace Theron. And somewhere in there, "Terminator Salvation" star Sam Worthington stepped in to replace Cruise.

That's not even mentioning the director changes. Bharat Nalluri was originally set to direct, way back when Cruise was still on the project. He fell off somewhere in the past year, and "The Lives of Others" director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck only recently stepped in to possibly replace him. It turns out that that's not happening either. Now it seems that "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" director Alfonso Cuaron may be moving in to helm, and that he'll be joined by Johnny Depp, who will step into the role once occupied by Cruise, then Worthington. Whew. Read more...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood PrinceIt’s been eight years since the first "Harry Potter" film hit the big screen, and in that time the franchise has gone through half as many directors. With Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell and now David Yates putting their skills to work on bringing J.K. Rowling's works to life, the various novels have been interpreted in a variety of ways.

“Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Chamber of Secrets” director Chris Columbus had the tough job of being the first to adapt the biggest children’s novel series of all time. He was further challenged with having to commit those books to film before Harry Potter’s story had even been finished; only the first four novels had been released when “Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Chamber of Secrets” hit theaters. Clive Owen in 'Children of Men'“Children of Men” told a haunting apocalyptic tale of a world in which all women are infertile and mankind is slowly dying off. Clive Owen and Julianne Moore gave admirably restrained performances. Beautifully shot, combining the best elements of the sci-fi and thriller genres, “Children” was one of the finest films of 2006—and no one went to see it (the US gross didn’t even cover half its $76 million budget).

Yet rumors of another “Children” installment have persisted, so writer/director Alfonso Cuarón spoke with MTV News to shoot down those rumors (as well as rumors he’ll be directing an adaptation of emo comic series, “The Umbrella Academy”). Or rather, he spoke with us to mock the very idea of picking up the “Children” story where he left it, with both Owen and Moore’s characters dead and the first baby born in years stowed away on a secret humanity-saving ship. Rodrigo GarciaFor his next film, "Mother and Child," director Rodrigo Garcia has wisely teamed up with Hollywood's favorite trio -- Alfonso Cuaron ("Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"), Guillermo del Toro ("Hellboy") and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu ("Babel"). Believe me, when these three hop on to produce a project, you should sit up and take notice of who they're favoring.

The movie spans 30 years in the lives of three women -- a 50-year-old woman, the daughter she gave up for adoption 35 years ago, and a black woman looking to adopt a baby. Casting is still underway, and given the big names of the producers, I wouldn't be surprised if it attracted a little star power. Read more...
