There is something serious going on in the new "Battleship" trailer: explosions. Also, Rihanna (we think).
In the trailer, which debuted over at Apple today, there's lots of robots that turn into other things (we can't legally say they "transform," can we?), and tons of super slow-mo shots of beautiful people looking really, really confused and upset.

At long last, this week sees the release of "13," director Géla Babluani's adaptation of his own 2005 French film. The movie follows Vincent "Vince" Ferro (Sam Riley), a young man with a desperate need for cash. His desperation drags him into the underground world of Russian roulette, where he has to participate in several deadly games to earn his paycheck. It's not a pretty living, but someone's gotta do it!
"13" features an incredible cast including "Expendables" alums Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, and "The Departed" badass Ray Winstone. It also has a spot for "True Blood" hunk Alexander Skarsgård, who just so happens to be the star of this exclusive clip from "13." Skarsgård puts his fangs away in favor of some gun-loading lessons for roulette newbie Vince. Check it out in the video below.

It's a good time to be Alexander Skarsgard. He stars on a hit HBO series, "True Blood," where he plays a sexy vampire and makes women -- scratch that, make it everyone -- swoon. On top of that, he's got a bustling film career: last week, his super dark thriller "Straw Dogs" opened in theaters, he's currently filming "What Maisie Knew" in NYC and he's also poised to try his hand at the big blockbuster action genre in "Battleship."
When the "Battleship" trailer dropped a while back, it was a bit kitschy and kind of ridiculous, which some of us around MTV News really loved. After all, what else is to be expected of a film based on a board game? People, a board game!
That being said, when we talked to the dashing Alex at the New York premiere for "Straw Dogs," he hadn't seen the trailer, but had a lot of really gushing things to say about shooting the flick, which also stars a whole army (navy?) of stars like Liam Neeson, Rihanna, Taylor Kitsch and Brooklyn Decker.

FROM MTV MOVIES: Kate Bosworth, Alexander Skarsgård and James Marsden have teamed up for a new millennium re-imagining of the classic 1971 Dustin Hoffman thriller, "Straw Dogs." The violent, dark film revolves around a young couple (Bosworth, Marsden) who move back to her Southern hometown and find themselves pretty unwanted by the locals, including Bosworth's ex, played by "True Blood" vamp Skarsgård.
"I had not seen the original film when I was offered the role; I had read the script first," Bosworth told MTV News at the premiere on Thursday. "I knew the original was a real cult classic. I read it and it was really intriguing, and then I watched the film, and I was pretty blown away; big shoes to fill. I thought, 'Oh my god, this is going to be quite an intense one,' but I love a challenge."
Marsden was thrilled by the chance to tackle a character that was very new to him, even if it had been done before.

Pirates are coming as surely as winter to the second season of "Game of Thrones."
Entertainment Weekly learned that British actor Lucian Msamati has been tapped to play Lyseni pirate Salladhor Saan. As a friend of Davos Seaworth, Saan is a mercenary pirate who joins the ranks of Stannis Baratheon's rebellion against the Lannister forces at King's Landing. Lucky for Msamati, Saan has a significant presence through the rest of the series.

Hot off the heels of "Battleship," Alexander Skarsgard is lining up plenty of new film projects to keep him busy during his "True Blood" off-season.
The latest of these is Brit Marling's thriller "The East," The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The flick follows a female agent who penetrates an eco-terrorist group called The East. THR says that if the deal happens, Skarsgard will play the head of the group who is seeking revenge against unethical corporations.

The "Battleship" trailer has invaded theaters and computer screens, and MTV News has a few things to say about it.
By now you've probably seen the trailer in all its Taylor Kitsch-y, Brooklyn Decker-filled glory, but what you haven't seen is the souped-up version featuring expert commentary from MTV Movie Blog head honcho Josh Wigler and MTV News Deputy Managing Editor Eric Ditzian.

It's the swoon heard 'round the world: Alexander Skarsgard will be again playing a Viking, but this time on the big screen.
The "True Blood" stud first donned the horned helm during the third season of the HBO show when his character's Norse roots were shown in a flashback sequence, but now Skarsgard has been tapped by Warner Bros to play a Viking in their upcoming flick "The Vanguard." Variety managed to learn that he will be one of two Viking brothers exiled to America and then begin a quest to make it back to Sweden.

In a rather odd twist, Rihanna has the lead female role in director Peter Berg's upcoming adaptation of the board game "Battleship." It will be the pop singer's first movie role; that, coupled with young up-and-comer male leads Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard, means that a lot of eyes are going to be on this planned 2012 release. And with the shoot happening in Hawaii right now, it's something of a miracle that Rihanna was able to get to Los Angeles for her surprise Video Music Awards appearance with Eminem.
"It really killed me that I couldn't be here and, luckily, I got the day off," she told MTV's Jim Cantiello backstage after her performance. "Eminem, he called me the day before and said, 'Please, I'm having a really hard time doing this without you.' We had a really great song ['Love the Way You Lie'], and I just was like, 'Oh damn!' It killed me. And then they allowed us to leave [the set] and do it, and we jetted in and we're gonna jet right back out." Read more...

Alexander Skarsgard may have lost the chance to wield Thor's hammer, but at least he'll get to terrorize the heck out of Cyclops and Lois Lane. According to Variety, Skarsgard and Kate Bosworth are set to costar with James Marsden in "Straw Dogs," Rod Lurie's controversial remake of Sam Peckinpah's 1971 classic thriller.
Peckinpah's original "Dogs" is the tale of a timid college professor named David (Dustin Hoffman) who relocates to his wife's native town of Cornwall. The distant intellectual immediately alienates the local workmen, who take a fancy to his wife Amy, who is herself feeling neglected by her husband. Tension builds between the couple, and between Amy and the workmen (one of whom is her ex-lover), eventually erupting into savage, horrific violence. "Dogs" was extremely controversial when it was released in 1971, and it remains a film of fierce debate. Read more...
