Mark WahlbergWondering what Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell's new football comedy is all about? Well, wonder no more!

Adam McKay, who worked with the hilarious duo on last year's "The Other Guys," sat down with Entertainment Weekly and revealed the origins behind the comedy he's tentatively calling "Three Mississippi." According to the filmmaker, the movie was grown from a surprising source — none other than Martin Scorsese's Academy Award winning "The Departed."

"The idea was originally conceived for Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin," said McKay. "Owen Burke, who’s a producer at Gary Sanchez, and I were talking about how crazily funny Wahlberg and Baldwin were in The Departed — how, even though it’s not a comedy, we could just watch them all day long. Burke dropped this idea, and I was like, 'Oh my God, that’s a movie!' Then Will heard it and he wanted in."

Adam McKay and Will Ferrell When Will Ferrell and Adam McKay team up, it's a pretty safe bet that there'll be a big fat pot of comedy gold at the end of that rainbow. The duo has given movie fans such beloved hits as "Anchorman," "Talladega Nights," "Step Brothers" and this summer's buddy-cop hit "The Other Guys," as well as the game-changing comedy website FunnyOrDie.com, which propelled McKay's young daughter Pearl to stardom with a little viral video sensation called "The Landlord."

With "The Other Guys" DVD and Blu-Ray in stores now, MTV chatted with writer-director McKay about a potential sequel to the film, how he wooed Mark Wahlberg to do a comedy, and why it might be a long time before we see Pearl demand the rent from Will Ferrell. Read More...

Former President George W. Bush has also been doing some celebrating, now that his new book "Decision Points" is out. He received praise from both Donnie Wahlberg and Stephen Colbert today on Twitter, though one of those posts might be a little more sincere than the other. "The Other Guys" marks Adam McKay and Will Ferrell's fourth big screen collaboration, but despite their efforts, the duo hasn't been able to gift Earth with a sequel to any of their comedies. For the sad tale of the demise of "Anchorman 2," reach for the tissues and click here.

But! Wipe those tears away, because as depressing as it is to say goodbye to more legend-making adventures with Ron Burgundy, McKay told MTV News late last week that he and Ferrell are indeed planning on a sequel: either to 2008's "Step Brothers" or "Other Guys." He also dropped some hints about a mysterious project that would reunite Ferrell with John C. Reilly, his "Step Brothers" co-star. Read on for the details... Read More...

Adam McKay is coming off the high of a $35.6 million opening for "The Other Guys" and is readying plans to adapt the ultra-dark comic series, "The Boys," for the big screen. He's also eyeing a smaller project that would mark his most mature cinematic work to date: a darkly comic take on the life of Lee Atwater, the GOP political consultant perhaps most infamous for George Bush's race-baiting Willie Horton during the 1988 presidential campaign.

In an interview with MTV News, McKay talked about why the project interests him so greatly, why the movie will be anything but preachy, and why Jim Carrey or Ed Norton might be the perfect actor to play Atwater. Read More...
