Since 2008, there's been a rumor floating around on the Internet concerning a "Planet of the Apes" reboot. Actually, it's a "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" reboot if you want to be precise. The original story broke on CHUD in late-2008, detailing a project, code-named "Caesar," dealing with the origins of a talking ape-overrun Earth. "Minority Report" writer Scott Frank was set to write and direct... until it was revealed in January that he was out. Vulture learned a few weeks later that Fox is indeed still very much interested in seeing this project through.

There's been nothing more than that until now. MTV's Larry Carroll spoke with character designer and special effects wiz Aaron Sims on the red carpet at "Clash of the Titans" last week, and he asked for a status update on "Apes." Sims stayed mostly mum, but he did let a few bits of info slip.

"They're just starting. There was another director," Sims said, clearly debating whether to say more and how much would be proper to reveal. "It's in the process right now." Read More...

'Clash of the Titans' (1981)Louis Leterrier’s got more than the next Hulk or “1602” on his mind – he’s also just started prepping a remake of “Clash of the Titans,” according to his character designer Aaron Sims.

Sims is starting to conceptualize the Medusa and the Kraken monster designs, and it’s more challenging than you might think. (And it’s one that “Hercules” is avoiding).

“There’s a whole mythology to all of this,” he said. “So what do you create that’s not just something we’ve all seen before? Everything, from Pegasus to the Titans, what have we not seen yet that’s going to be really epic-looking and still speaks to Greek mythology?” Read More...
