Worst Movies of 2010

Every year has its share of great movies (check out our top 10 films of the year here and vote for your fave here) and not-so-great movies... and 2010 was no exception. There were the sure-fire winners that totally failed with critics, like "The Tourist" and the reboot of "A Nightmare on Elm Street," and there were the films that never had a chance, like "Case 39" and "Furry Vengeance"... as well as, apparently, anything with Katherine Heigl and/or Josh Duhamel.

It's kind of mean to kick these flicks while they're down, so we decided to go to an outside source for some hard data. In other words, we checked out RottenTomatoes to see which flicks were the 25 lowest rated of 2010. Then we made a convenient little poll out of the 25 films to see which one you decide is the worst. Hit the jump to vote in the poll, and let us know in the comments or on Twitter which films you thought were the bottom of the barrel in 2010 (and feel free to yell at me if you disagree)!

I love my Nightmares. Not actual nightmares mind you—those ruin sleeping pants—but my personal collection of "Nightmare on Elm Street" films. I'm a huge fan of the franchise, so when I originally heard about the then-upcoming re-imagining of the first "Nightmare on Elm Street," Freddy started haunting my waking hours. The movie finally hit theaters this past weekend and I was there opening night, ready to enter dreamland once more. I left knowing one thing for sure: I want a sequel! The new movie certainly has its issues, but the potential for greatness is there.

Thankfully, my dreams are coming true. Warner Bros. announced plans for a sequel after the new "Nightmare" slashed its way to the top of the box office, bringing in the biggest horror opening for the April-May corridor. After the jump, I explain why a sequel is a great idea and where I think the series should go from here. Spoilers abound, so make sure you're ready before browsing into my Nightmare. Read more...

A Nightmare on Elm Street-- Freddy's back for a "Nightmare on Elm Street" sequel, possibly in 3-D, as Warner distribution president Dan Fellman says: "We don't have a story yet, but this is the largest horror opening in the April-May corridor, and it just proves there's a lot left in the franchise." [The Wrap]

-- Rumors are circulating that a trailer for a J.J. Abrams project called "Super 8," which may or may not be a sequel to "Cloverfield," will premiere in front of "Iron Man 2." Who knows if there's any truth to the rumor, though director Matt Reeves recently acknowledged "spikes in activity" regarding the project. [HitFix]

-- Michael Keaton loves talking about playing Ken in "Toy Story 3," and we love hearing him talk about it. "Ken actually serves as kind of a concierge — somewhere between a tour guide, a concierge, maitre d' and ambassador," he says. "He's not only alone in his dream house but probably alone in the dream." Glorious. [Hero Complex] Read more...

When the original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" premiered, it introduced a whole generation of audiences to the term insomnia. More importantly, it introduced the world to a horror movie icon: Freddy Krueger.

Everyone knows Freddy, the boogeyman with the Christmas-colored sweater, fedora and bladed glove. He kills you in your sleep in the most sick, sadistic and often ironic ways. But that's the thing about the man of your nightmares. Unlike his slasher brethren, Freddy actually has quite a lot of fun when it comes to offing his endless stream of teenage dream weavers. Where Jason would usually stab you and Michael Myers would usually, well, stab you as well, Freddy comes up with unique and oftentimes hilarious means of murder.

With the new "Nightmare" premiering today, I take a look back over Freddy's quarter century long career and pick out some of his best and most memorable kills. Grab some coffee and hit the jump to enter the nightmare. Read more...

If you're excited about the "Nightmare On Elm Street" remake starring Jackie Earle Haley that comes out this week, you may be more interested in the project than Nicky Hilton, who tweeted about some bad childhood memories she still carries from the first film.

In other posting, buddy shots were all the rage last night, with "Last Airbender" actor Aasif Mandvi hanging out with Dr. Sanjay Gupta and more Twitter-Wood ladies than I can list here getting together for dinner with Candace Cameron Bure and Denise Richards. Check those out after the jump along with Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's thoughts on British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's "bigoted" comment and a Gray's Papaya fan.

It's all documented in Twitter-Wood for April 28, 2010. Read more...
